  1. Favourite movies yahve ||10-16-2001| |07:42 PM| Here goes. Leaving Las Vegas. why. this man was truely free. i admire that. ignoring the fact that he was an alcoholic, in that stupor he came across many simple truths overlooked by our defensive image-heavy lives. Nick Cage is the man ! Irish Cowboy ||10-16-2001 ||11:10 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| It was a sad flick, but interestin. I'd go with Braveheart, The good, The Bad & the ugly, Fight Club, maybe Rio Bravo, maybe Unforgiven. Tho there are a lot of close ones, like Cool Hand Luke, Trainspotting, etc. Boondock Saints gets an honorable mention, and I mustve seen Snatch at least 10 times by now. bacchus ||10-17-2001| |02:35 PM| |bacchus979@hotmail.com| Nicks got it right ... braveheart at the top. i rate is on par with PATTON. longest day... bridge too far.. man who would be king... in the name of the rose...apocaplyce now... THERE all really close seconds. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVERITE SCEENS? Favorite chase: Ben Her: chariot race Fav speach : Patton: 3rd army address Fav battle: Gladiator: battle against barbarians Braveheart: all battles Spartacus: last battles Fav John Woo inspired Moment(this usually means it has fire in the back ground :Breaveheart: when the scottish nobel dreams mel gipson riding on a horse through a wall of fire, swinging a mace with a inhuman look about him. Irish Cowboy ||10-17-2001| |03:17 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Ok, favorite scenes. -Braveheart - Christ, the ending damn near got me misty. -Good, Bad & The Ugly - My boy Clint chomps a cigar.."Two kinds of people in this world, Tuco. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig." Tosses him a shovel, cocks the gun. "...You dig." That, and Tuco goin into town, seein about 6 snipers overhead, then Clint's off to his side, sayin "...Were you gonna die alone?" -Unfogiven - damn. Either "We all got it comin, kid" or the final scene in the bar. -Rio Bravo - The Duke and his drunken deputy storm a bar, disarm the whole lot. One guy tries to get his rifle when the Duke's back is turned, and he catces him "Go on, pick it up. I wish you would." Fight Club - Hard to single out a favorite moment. Lines like "Our fathers were our visions of god; if our fathers abandoned us, what does that tell you about god?" and the speech towards the end about abandoned super highways with hunter/gatherer societies starting fires on em, those are up there. kee [Khayman] ||10-30-2001| |03:00 AM| I'm so tired of these damn hillbillie films. Irish Cowboy ||10-30-2001| |03:57 AM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Hmm...I saw "Whos the man?" one of dem darky films, and them jigaboos was funny! Fak off, Spike Lee. You aint even watched any of them "hick" (lets get it right now, hillbilly's kidna northern) films, and if you did, ya know it was just to bash em. ...damn, didnt you recommend Fight Club to me? I seen more black folks on "Green Acres" than i did in that flick. kee [Khayman] ||10-30-2001| |04:54 PM| You're just mad because there are no hill bilies in gargoyals. You should no that gargoyals takes place in manhattan. I'm sorry if garoyals don't like redncecks. I don't see you suggesting any flicks. ........OK OK clock work orange. then after you recomend me watch that chit. You pretend that you didn't recomend it to me. That movie didn't only bite pillow it's lips are still brown from tossen' salad. And you have to admit mr. cowboy most of your movies fall under the shit packing list. And speaking of creaming little debbies.....why are so on John Waynes cock. I understand you like the guy and all but damn come up for air dude. I'm sure your gag reflex is unresponsive anymore. When was the last time you recommended a good flick to me. Gargoyals was good. and screw anyone that says different. especially if the haven't even seen the damn thing Irish Cowboy ||10-30-2001| |05:17 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| damn, where to begin? First off...no, i didnt watch your gay ass cartoon of gothic shit. Its sad you only read preacher to criticize it and guilt me into watchin your shit, but fuck it, i aint takin anymore recommendations from you anyway, bad enough i gotta hear it everyday "did you watch it yet? How bout today? Why dont you have spare time like me??" As for Clockwork Orange...i never, ever recommended it to you. You told me some dumb friend of yours suckered you into it by sayin it was a story bout some boring black guy or some such predictable, spike lee shit. I wouldnt recommend brillian social commentaries like that or Brazil to you, 'cause apparently good movies dont hold your interest without a token black guy. I mean, cmon, the Godfather was boring? Jesus. Next, the Duke. Typical of some angry fuck to shit on someone else's hero. I like 'im, he stood for somethin, whereas all i get outta you is bitchin and racial shit. My movies are recognized as classics; yours are on a shelf in plain view where dont a damn person with any sense wanna watch em. I mean, some good Shakespeare, then what? Black films, resembling UPN sitcoms in that they get by on race alone, rather than talent? Some kung-fu movies with plot resemblin a porn? Nah, you wouldnt know a good movie if it slapped you in the chin with its balls (except Fight Club, ill give ya that).PS the topic is "Movies", not "Animated Series". Irish Cowboy ||10-30-2001| |05:32 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Back to worthwhile topics, lets hear from ohers on their favorite flicks, cmon! Timbo's gotta say The Killer, Hard Boiled, maybe Matrix & Face Off (which ive had for like a month now, thanks). But what about the chicks? Heartlessbitch, Oni, Athena etc lets hear em. dinghy ||11-06-2001| |10:33 PM| Ok more braveheart fans in the world....People I can relate to. Favourite scene :betrayed by Robert de Bruce, shocked and dejected on the field..Uh it ripped my heart out.End was damn good too. I'm sorry Timmy but If Nick's right I don't understand how Matrix/Face off can be at the top of your list.Granted they were cool movies to look at and they are definitely recommendable but they just don't have that movie of the year quality you know? Shrek was a real feel good movie...good fun Mulan ||11-25-2001| |03:51 AM|| Here's some good movies that you don't think would actually amount to anything. 1) Serendipity - John Cusack is a God. 2) Legally Blonde - I know it sounds stupid, but give it a try. Reese Witherspoon can actually act in this movie. Heartlessbitch ||11-25-2001| |04:40 PM| why is there a lack of good car movies? i was utterly dissapointed with "the fast and the furious" shit... yes it was about drag racing, but it was pretty dissapointing, Vin Dissel was good tho.. but jordana brewster? please i bet she doesn't even know where the dipstick is...(no sexual reference intended) it pissed me off that her only purpouse in the movie was that of the sex symbol.. damn get in the engine like that other chick.. rotate the tires.. dammit do SOMETHING other than cook and look after your brothers! and this is what we've accomplished with the whole woman's movement.. yeah movement into the GODDAMN KITCHEN.. okay but for GOOD car movies, i did really like Gone in Sixty Seconds, i mean i liked the original, but the remake was even better, you can't go wrong with Nicholas Cage for one, and secondly, come on now.. Angelina Jolie.. (she's hot) and she totally pulled off the character, another movie that i have really good expectations for is "not another teenage movie" i saw the trailer for that and it's fucking hillarious.. my fave scene? boy: "i know how to win her.. sing a song with a girl's name in it"(the guys starts singing) "Janie's got a gun..." i'm sorry i probably liked that since i'm an Aerosmith fan..but i thought it was funny.okay all for now, the Heartless bitch has spoken, and you've gotten the female perspective.. (in addition to Mulan's) Irish Cowboy ||11-26-2001| |04:01 AM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Nice quote - that teen parody flick looks kinda funny, id go see it if Imam was here cause hes all about those ones. And just to step on a few toes (mainly Timbo's), you dont see many movies about cars, because a whole movie bout a car - outside of Knight Rider or Herbie or some such shit - is crap. For reference, see "Initial D". Heh. Heartlessbitch| |11-26-2001| |08:34 AM|| oh, the "love bug" tsk tsk, cars often play essential roles in movies, to the point where they actually become a character, (NO NOT LIKE HERBIE) i often dream of the day of when i can afford a chevelle supersport or a '55 Bel Air.... instead of my '90 chevy blazer.. but oh i'm getting off topic.. and which quote do you like? the led zepplin one or the one from "not another teenage movie?" Mulan ||11-27-2001| |05:46 PM| I think my all time favorite movie has to be the Princess Bride. It's still a classic. And thanks to Nick, I've got my very own copy. Irish Cowboy| |11-27-2001| |09:37 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Yeah, that one's worth gettin. Chevelle's are badass, i admit. I just wouldnt do a film on one. Both quotes were cool, but i meant Zeppelin, theyre gods of some sort.On the topic of movies...Aadil got me to watch Patton. Went and bought it a few days later, so that says enough...great fuckin flick, whether you dig war or not. Heartlessbitch ||11-27-2001| |10:13 PM| the Irish cowoboy has proven himself worthy in my eyes.. not only does he dig chevelles, but acknowledges Led Zepplein's god-like status.. my hat off to sir, you've proven yourself worthy. and i agree with Mulan, Princess Bride is awesome.. one to add to the list The Wedding Singer, god i love that movie Irish Cowboy ||11-27-2001| |11:06 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Wedding singer is great 80's type shit, i really went for it. Didnt see that Lil Nicky one tho, look like it blew. M'lady im flattered. Now, no offense to Dinghy, but why are the cool bakshs so far away? Guess its cause i saw one of those DVD performances, but Page & Plant, they just give off some kinda divinity. I need that box set one day. Heartlessbitch ||11-28-2001| |01:51 AM| *oh us cool baksh's try* (sidenote.. i'm actually an Edun (nude spelt backwards) i'm related to Mariam, Aadil, and Imam on my mom's side)come out to california sometime, i live in good old cowtown..plenty of cows.. and cattle..and horses..good fun.. (not really) not to sound like a travel agent, but i really believe everyone should go to California once before they die. and Zeppelin is great..what's your fave song? mine..."whole lotta love", "black dog", of course"stairway", "kasmir" but there are so many and Wayne's world is a kick ass movie, i love that movie too, yes i liked Mike Myers In Austin Powers.. but AP didn't hold the same appeal to me as Wayne's World did... and now i'm off to study for econ..goodnight.. Irish Cowboy ||11-28-2001| |02:16 AM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Hmm..."Immigrant Song" is too easy, so i guess id say "Babe im gonna leave you" as one of my favorites.Cali's on my list, if i ever get out that way. bacchus ||11-28-2001| |06:40 PM| |bacchus979@hotmail.com| she not a baksh... shes not a Bacchus!!!.... look at the nose ...look at the nose dammit the nose. it doesnt fit ... she doesnt have it. Heartlessbitch ||11-28-2001| |08:08 PM| hey what are you trying to say about my nose? and what is the supposed bacchus/baksh nose.. my mom doesn't have a weird nose, or are you trying to say i have one? BigChiefSlapaho ||11-29-2001| |07:44 PM| |chfslap606@aol.com| This is just a list, no order of preference. I know I'm going to take some sh!t for my choices, but hey, it's one thing or the other. 1) Airplane - "Surely you're not serious!" "Yes, I'm serious, and don't call me Shirley." I know, the plot is kaka, but you know that movie is a classic. If you haven't seen it, and you don't mind laughing mindlessly, pick it up. 2) Enter the Dragon - I've never gotten the chance to see any of Bruce's other films besides the one where he fights Chuck Norris, whose plot was even thinner than this one. He's still amazing after all these years tho. 3) Die Hard (1) - The sequels were Ok, but nothing like the first one. 4) Star Wars 4, 5, & 6 (shaddap Nick) - Yes, they're old, and they're flawed in today's standards. But, there has never been a story line that has influenced so much of American & worldwide culture as these movies. The perfect blend of mythology & mysticism with sci-fi & futurescapes. 5) Godfather 1, 2, and even 3 - Though not many people gave part 3 any credit, I thought it still was a great story. It must be difficult to pick up a series whose last "episode" was over 15 years earlier. And, lets face it, any gangster movie has a hard time comparing to part 2. 6) Goodfellas - "Is DAT what you're tryin' ta say? Dat I'm some sort of clown, here to amuse you?"... 7) Matrix. 8) tie between Platoon and Apocalypse Now for favorite Vietnam movie. Good Morning Vietnam was good too. 9) Top Gun - Again, set the precedence for which every crappy flying movie followed throughout the eighties... (Iron Eagle 1, 2, 3, or 4 anyone?) Movie made sense though, plot was not too far out in space like the above mentioned. 10) it's a toss up between Gladiator & Braveheart, but also, if you want to see the originator of melee's... check out Spartacus. BigChiefSlapaho ||11-29-2001| |07:51 PM| |chfslap606@aol.com|| Favorite movie scene? damn, that's a toughy. How about Naked Gun 2 1/2, when Leslie Neilsen's at the Sperm Bank. Nurse - "Would you like to see our selection of movies?" LN - "Um, Yes! Do you have Spartacus? E.T.?" Nurse - "Um, sir, I meant adult films?" cut to scene of nurse overhearing rodeo sounds and furniture breaking. Irish Cowboy ||11-29-2001| |08:50 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Our generation overrates Top Gun. I know im alone here. As for Vietnam flicks, check out The Deer Hunter with De Niro and a young Chris Walken...some good stuff. Here's where i wanna plug Green Berets, the Duke's vietnam flick, but goddamn i cant do it with a straight face.
  2. I hear rumors this "Cowboy" now has the Godfather DVD set in his posession, if yon admin is still interested. Gangster movies Irish Cowboy ||10-15-2001| |10:50 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Now that the Godfather trilogy is on DVD, thought I'd get into this one. First off, while Scarface gets overhyped - tho it is a great flick - I cant speak for the third part, but Godfather 1 & 2 are surprsingly not overrated. Pacino & Brando are amazing in part 1, and De Niro shines with his amazing, effortless performance in part 2. Also recommended: Carlito's Way - Pacino in what, to me, is a modern western. Goodfellas - Youve seen the spoofs, but the movie itself is great. Sorcese was a wise man to cast De Niro & Pesi together as often as he did. A Bronx Tale - De Niro's directoral debut, i believe. A great piece about the working man vs crime. Casino - I saw it on the same day as Heat, and liked Heat more for obvious reasons, but again, De Niro + Pesi...ya cant go wrong. Donnie Brasco - Thanks partly to acting god Pacino, Depp officially escapes the pretty-boy label. The Untouchables is on its way hear courtesy of Netflix, I'll get back to ya'll on that one. yahve ||10-16-2001| |03:53 AM| Im up for the godfather series... my ignorant ass cant remember it. lemme know when there is a showing soon :p Irish Cowboy ||10-16-2001| |12:51 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| ..soon as i get the $70 for the set, it's on. I'd take up a collection pool, since you, Kevin & Miranda all wanna see it, but I've seen Spiffy raise $ for personal belongings...I'm not goin down that road.
  3. Seems the poor admin never got done "processing"... Western films > Gangster films > ? Irish Cowboy ||10-25-2001 ||03:35 AM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| One neednt look hard to see the transition. Legendary director Kurosawa - the original asian director, and sorry timbo but far more genuis than your boy John Woo - directed 3 well known films. 1) Ran - Japanese take on Shakespear's "King Lear", excellent battle scenes. On its way here in a bit from Netflix if anyone's interested. 2) Seven Samurai - Great flick about saving a desolate town, later turned into "The Magnificent Seven", a great western with Stevie McQueen, Yul Brener, James Caan, Charles Bronson etc. 3) Yojimbo - Original "lone wolf badass" story, later became Eastwood's incredible "Fistull of Dollars", then Bruce Willis Vs Christopher Walken in "Last Man Standing", a gangster flick. Ignoring all this tho, Ive finally figured it out - their strong similarities come in the themes. A strong, independent figure, standin by a moral code in the face of impossible odds and alla that. The character is not always a staunch hero - the good ones have him as almost indifferent (Eastwood's Man with No Name trilogy), etc. I used to get the feelin of a link when watchin gangster flicks, i think it was m'boy Pacino in "Carlito's Way" that really made me think this too - i loved that flick, and couldnt help but feel it was a step or too away from a western. Today, it happened again, watchin Kevin Costern & Sean Connery mount up as "The Untouchables" to take down Al Capone (De Niro, who else?). Shotguns, cavalry ride an all. Twas a fine moment. My question is - where from there? Some action flicks like Die Hard feel western, but modern action is still tryin to recover from the 80's flux of crap-ass Segal, Van Dame, Lundgren, etc. Gangster flicks still come and go, but what else is in that vein? I mean, war flicks arent nearly as prevelant, and good ones are much harder to find (Didnt see "Pearl Harbor" but it looked like it tossed some lame romance into it, at least we had "Saving Private Ryan"). Anyway, there might come a time in the next generation or so when gangster films will die down a bit (if you think that theyre on a low, go to New York. Good luck findin a corner that dont sell Pacino "Scarface" pictures), and when they become like westerns are now, or at least the good ones -vastly underappreciated pieces of american art - then what, what genre comes next? bacchus ||10-25-2001| |12:25 PM| |bacchus979@hotmail.com| ok ok ok that was a good rant ...... but u seem to miss something, notice how in all the genras:western, ganster etc...something always happends in them! ................ ...............The mentor dies!!!!! Irish Cowboy ||10-25-2001| |02:30 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Grrr....Obi-Wan, Que-gon, any Connery character, sometimes even the Duke...wait, i got one! Donnie Brasco, i think Pacino got sold out & went to the big house, but i dont remember him dyin, and he was a helluva mentor! PS Anyone else got ideas on the next progressive genre? yahve ||10-25-2001| |05:25 PM| Rant read. (processing information)
  4. Movie news Irish Cowboy ||10-15-2001| |08:11 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Yahve, can we get our own icons here sometime? Anyway... The Matrix 2 - scheduled for next summer, it looks like. Keanu just sprained his ankle in a fight scene vs 5 guys. Plus, you know that old lady who played the oracle? She died. Sad. Between that and Alyah, the stars are droppin like flies. Preacher - The film is a go, shoots in November, but no offical casting yet (?). Directed by the chick who shot "Tank Girl"...I dont know what to make of that. I still say Hugh Jackman for Jesse Custer, tho. Spider-Man - still up for next March. Not lookin as good as it did but might still be interestin. Wish James Cameron and Lawrence Fishbourne stayed on, but the budget's higher than X-Men now, so it's got a fightin chance. 'Sides, didnt the trailer look cool? X-Men 2 - Hugh Jackman's back on board, which is cool, but many discrepencies with the comic story - i dont like some of the changes. Unfortunately, they ditched the ideas of Apocalypse & Sentinels, and the villian might again be Magneto, but with the Juggernaut to boot. We'll see...at least theyre bringin in Nightcrawler and possibly Gambit. Blade 2 - Put off till next February, but now featuring Norman Reedus (boondock saints..woo hoo!). Might still get a NC-17 for violence....awww yeah. Star Wars 2 - Same gay subname, now more Jar Jar. Batman - Tho "Batman Beyond" Movie got canned, "Batman: Year One" got the go-ahead tho, with direction by Dan Arnofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Pi), so that oughta be pretty cool. Daredevil - Sometime in 2002, tho Ben Affleck will be playing the lead role, instead of the far more talented Ed Norton. This week, a comic translation of "From hell" comes out, and it looks fairly good..lemme know if anyone else wants to see it in the next few weeks. bacchus ||10-17-2001| |09:34 AM| |bacchus979@hotmail.com| ALos check out "LORDS OF THE RING" COMMING THIS CHRISTMAS.! bacchus ||10-17-2001| |02:18 PM| |bacchus979@hotmail.com| i'm up for , 'from hell' . lets arrange something... its got my boy donny brasco and everything. its gatta be cool. yahve| |11-16-2001| |04:26 AM| Harry Potter comes out today. You all know I'm there front line and center. I've actually read the whole published series, it really is some good shit. Phear not Bacchus, I shall read the fellowship fo the ring before the movie comes out! this i vow upon the Sacred Sirloin I shall provide if im wrong. bacchus ||11-16-2001| |05:37 AM| |bacchus979@hotmail.com| so let it be written ... SO let it be done!!! nick watson [drunken irish cowboy - TROLL] ||11-17-2001||06:28 PM||irish@hotmail.com| alright mr. y says "justice has been severed here yes sir justice." evilbono ||11-18-2001| |02:34 PM| |evilbono79@hotmail.com| What the fuck is all that Mr. Y crap. This all seems a little silly but it could just be me. Good one on Potter. The little tyke stays true to the book and the lack of Spielberg isn't felt at all. dinghy ||11-19-2001| |04:13 PM| saw it myself the other day...was impressed .Now regret not having read the series. And now my resolve to finish lords of the ring is renewed. :p Irish Cowboy ||11-19-2001| |04:24 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| That Mr Y crap is a former member here lashin out at the host of this site for censoring his views; ya had to be there, i guess. 'S funny. I heard even Alan Rickman didnt save the rushed ending of that Potter one, what did ya think Dinghy?

We are taking over movies too baby! Jumbie ||11-03-2001| |11:07 PM| |jumbie40@yahoo.com| Did someone mention goats? Heartlessbitch ||11-04-2001| |01:50 PM|| intresting thing, last night a bunch of friends and i went up to the Zodiac Barn (the place in vacaville where the Zodiac killer actually tied two people up back in the 60's) and in front of the barn was a goat with three horns that was recently decapitated... weird.. a lot of people do satanic occult shit there now... we didn't go in, one time i went in the zodiac barn and there were a bunch of mutilated cats, nasty shit. oh and to get back on topic, high fidelity really sucked ass. i saw it this weekend for the first time and was sourly dissapointed. even tho john cussack is in it and he's really good, but he sucked in this movie. Irish Cowboy ||11-05-2001| |03:05 AM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| You live in an exciting, odd area. Howd you not like High Fidelity? Thought it was fuckin great m'self, what didnt ya like? Guess i dug the top 10 stuff, good analogy, and yeah Cusacks a cool guy. Heartlessbitch ||11-06-2001| |01:07 AM| yes vacaville is a weird, exciting little nor-cal town isn't it? everyone wants to move to either san francisco or LA after high school, but i mean, it's my hometown, i have history here, what can i say? i'll always have a spot in my heart for good ol cowtown. of course it isn't as exciting as the busy, superficial, metropolis of Miami... high fedelity went a little too slow for my liking, the plot dragged along and ended with a really predictable conclusion. i really dug the whole music references thing tho.. whoever wrote the screenplay knew shit about music. i also liked the whole thing with lists, i found that amusing, but the whole movie dragged, and it ended abruptly, which kind of sucked. i also thought they could have given his sidekicks at the viynl store more character, and could have been a little wittier. another movie that sucked... Loser with Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari... halfway through it my friends and i wanted to leave.. even a little tequilla while watching that movie didn't save it.. (sigh) dinghy ||11-06-2001| |10:46 PM| Ahrite all those movies looking for horny teenagers as loyal audiences. I mean, youre a girl, and i didnt see Sally Field, Oprah OR Rosie O Donell in it, so genetically, it wasnt up your alley, ya know? I sympathize with you broads, i do. Heh...Yeah, i said it! Let the roating begin, Im ready for it. dinghy ||11-07-2001| |04:26 PM| for your information I pride myself onhaving a pretty "BROAD" (pun - get it?) taste in movies . Hello!!....Braveheart!! Heartlessbitch ||11-08-2001| |12:24 AM| you know that's a typical male comment to make cowboy, i, myself am a fan of dick and fart joke movies, and i think that gender has nothing to do with the preference of movies per se... i enjoyed evil dead.. and if you are so narrow minded as to say that the only things females would find enjoyable are movies with happy endings and freddie prinze junior...well not all of the females in the world are like that. you don't seem to be a sexist guy so i'm guessing you just said that comment to rile someone up. which brings me to a point about feminism. i think that all kinds of women out there can display feminism while doing things that are viewed by society to be "degrading to females" i am considered myself a feminist, but don't fit the stereotype of a feminist who doesn't shave under their arms or burn their bras.. i think that feminism is just the "radical" idea that women are people, plain and simple. so my god! i'm in colorguard...it's an extracrricular activity i'm doing to look good on my transcript..yes i wear makeup and short skirt while doing it..but believe it or not it takes skill and i don't feel degraded as a female by doing it. i'm just a fan of keeping it real, and people who are so judgemental and like to categorize people suck. open your minds, don't buy into a stereotype.. okay that is all the HB has to say for today, thank you for listening to my rant. Irish Cowboy ||11-08-2001| |02:16 AM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Argh fine fine Braveheart redeems all; but ive heard far too many women say "Bravheart! I wont watch it, it looks violent!". Nevermind folks who choose Gladiator over it because of the main character's fidelity (*coughJessicacough*). Yes, it was to get folks riled up. Good rant, but what happened to the list? eartlessbitch ||11-09-2001| |02:54 AM| oN A positive note, one of my favorite movies of ALL TIME is half baked. god you got to love it!! i mean killer the dog, the guy on the couch, thurgood, scarface.. what's not to love? some of my fave lines from half baked..."i am a master of the custodial arts" "yabba zabba you my onllly friend" (kenny is going to go get munchies..he asks thurgood what he wants, thurgood replies) "oh you know get me some of that stuff..oh what is it called i used to eat it all the time...oh.. yea... PUSSY" damn i love that movie, and i've probably seen it WAY TOO MANY times, and i'm really hyper right now because i've downed SIX SHOTS OF ESPRESSO, and that really fucks you up, and i'm pretty wired.. but anyway, half baked is a good movie, i give it two really enthusiastic thumbs up. troll ||11-09-2001| |03:34 AM| |smurfette@drunkendeities.com| Dude... I just bought that movie... I totally agrrrrree. Irish Cowboy ||11-10-2001| |05:17 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| So you like it, but its on the crap list...? Anyway, Miranda voted "Moulon Rouge" for this list, and since shes actually a fan of musicals, thats somethin. PS I vote Capatain America 2. I still have scars from that one. Irish Cowboy ||11-11-2001| |04:49 AM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| ..and that Amadeus. Whatta piece o' shit! ...Khayman, you even still around? Cmon, rank on superior "hillbilly" movies or somethin, i wont flame ya as much. There's gotta be some films ya wanna bash, other than Clockwork Orange (a brilliant fuckin movie by the way, if you actually watch it, while not playin everquest). Heartlessbitch ||11-12-2001| |11:36 AM| sOrry my laziness prevailed and instead of looking for a message board entitled "good movies" or starting my own topic, i decided to post a good movie suggestion under the crap list..i hope i am forgiven... dirty dancing (shutter) i really despise that movie, for one i don't like Jennifer Grey, i think she's a horrible actress, and the whole soundtrack didn't make sense to me. call my crazy, but the movie was set in the 1960's...then they had some really good 80's hits thrown in...i didn't understand it. if they did it in a way where it was creative..it would be cool, but as far as being authentic to the 60's...i wasn't feeling it. i'm sorry, but i'm one of those people that if i see a period piece i'd be cool for it to be somewhat authentic.. but on the other hand.. i DID like how they incorporated Queen, Jimi Hendrix, and David Bowe into scenes in the movie "A Knight's Tale" for some reason it made some kind of warped sense. oh that and heath ledger was in it...(drools) on the whole tho.. a knights tale kind of sucked too.. and one more to add to the list.. "save the last dance" i got dragged to go see it and it was a waste of $8.50 i think they played up the whole white girl, black ghetto guy thing too much, YES I KNOW that is the premise for the whole movie, but a lot of it is overexaggerated and unrealistic. plus i hate the theme song from that movie, grrr... (you know that song that goes "i've been crazy crazy thinking about you baby....") and they played it REPETITIVELY throughout the movie. yahve ||11-13-2001| |08:08 AM|| Hey Saved the last dance was cheese but it was funny cheese! Hmm then again i just downloaded it and didn't pay a red cent. I guess it may have irritated me if id paid good money for it. But as a freebie it was fun to see the dance moves and maybe pretend that i can learn from watching a movie :p Irish Cowboy ||11-13-2001| |03:15 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Men who watch movies to "learn dance moves"...are like men who watch sex in the city. Theyre prolly enjoyin the film with someone's balls on their chin. Im with Heartless, Dirty Dancing is an overrated piece o shit too. Was curious bout Knights Tale, but it didnt look too good. bacchus ||11-13-2001| |03:56 PM| |bacchus979@hotmail.com| i'm not going to go on about open mindedness...in considering the worth of a series...i'm not going to accuse any one of only appriciating a movie or series that have a specific theme to it , be that theme cowboys hats, drew barrimore, army fatigues, or black people. but what i will say is that a show should be juged by its caliber. i'm not going to vote for a woman just because she a woman. i'm going to vote for her if she the best qulified. and while sex in the city is not the best qulified show on tv it is damn well qualified, and i defie u to prove other wise. ps. and i'm not defending sex and the city an yahve behave. Heartlessbitch ||11-13-2001| |09:27 PM|back to save the last dance, i didn't even think it was funny, and the coreography sucked. it wasn't even a GOOD dance movie. there is this one australlian movie called "strictly ballroom" that is a good dance movie. but dirty dancing and save the last dance sucked in my opinion. and in reply to bacchus.. i believe certain movies and shows are directed at a certain type of audience.. come on now, it's like saying "queer as folk" is directed at straight people.. according to your theory i'm not saying that only gay people will watch "queer as folk" but generally it is targeted towards the lesbian/gay/bi audience. this isn't the same as JUDGING a show. just because it is directed at a certain audience it doesn't judge how GOOD it is. Irish Cowboy ||11-14-2001| |01:03 AM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Yeah, Bacchus, how do ya feel bout "Will and Grace"? You a big fan o that one too? bacchus ||11-14-2001| |03:48 AM| |bacchus979@hotmail.com| i dont know where u got My theory from .. but i dont have one... what i am saying is: a movie/show should not be put down by a critic just because that critic does does not happen to be in that show's target audience. give whats good its due. ps FUCK WILL AND GRACE!!!....didnt i catch u looking at that the other day ? Heartlessbitch ||11-14-2001| |09:23 AM| but everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, maybe the critic ISN'T in the target audience and they think it sucks, thats their opinion. judging if ANYTHING is good is based soley on a person to person basis. dinghy ||11-14-2001| |11:18 PM| If what you say is true then this whole topic is a waste of time...since everyone's perception of what is 'good' varies then a generalisation such as 'crap list' serves no purpose.on the contrary more justified topics would be called 'favourite movies' or 'Mariam's crap list'(which by the way dirty dancing is not on  ) I have to agree with Bachus-if u were to have movie critics for the purpose which they are suppose to serve then they should not rate a movie as not 'good' because they were not a part of the target Audience. Unless what you are saying is that Movies themselves should try not to focus too much on one audience - which would make it a bad movie and try to cater for a Larger target Audience. If this is indeed NOT what you are saying then I think that all movie critics should be Gay,Straight, black, white, hispanic, muslim, catholic etc etc etc all wrapped up in a nice bundle labelled 'movie critic' (of course I acknowledge the impossibility of this - that indeed is the very point) dinghy ||11-14-2001| |11:19 PM| If what you say is true then this whole topic is a waste of time...since everyone's perception of what is 'good' varies then a generalisation such as 'crap list' serves no purpose.on the contrary more justified topics would be called 'favourite movies' or 'Mariam's crap list'(which by the way dirty dancing is not on ) I have to agree with Bachus-if u were to have movie critics for the purpose which they are suppose to serve then they should not rate a movie as not 'good' because they were not a part of the target Audience. Heartlessbitch||11-14-2001||11:43 PM| p.s. i wanted to clarify something, i just read what i wrote, when i say this list is "life according to leah" i mean only my posts are "life according to leah" not everything on this list, just what i write, didn't want to come across as cocky..okay then.. Irish Cowboy ||11-15-2001| |09:56 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| I think that, long as were still in America, we are free to say "that movie sucked big donkey dick" when one feels so, such as with "Cruel Intentions", "Simply Irresistable", and a host of others. Some opinions might count more than others - if i say a Western sucks cock, chances are others really, really wont like it, for intance - but that's about it. Of course i dont like Sex in the City, i dont enjoy shallow feminism and trashy sex talk for hours on end, thats me. Others round here seem to go for balls on their ..er go for that series. There are no objective opinions...except for mine.
  6. This thread died before its time. Good movies you're not watching Irish Cowboy ||10-15-2001| |08:26 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Raging Bull - Among De Niro's best, violent but amazing acting. Great boxing flick. Requiem for a Dream - Unsettling, will stick with you for a bit. An unhappy "Magnolia" The Big Lebowski - Light-hearted fun with guns, philosophy and bowling. For Yahven. The Name of the Rose - Wisdom Vs Faith, with Connery on wisdom's side. Excellent. Looking for Richard - Watch Pacino & Kevin Spacey do Sheakspere. Brazil - Better than "Clockwork Orange", in the same vein. Breaker Morant - Britain had a Vietnam, in a war you never heard of. Run Lola Run - Not for everybody, but i like the theme of time. Lonesome Dove - A TV series western of 4 episodes based on the book. Robert Duvall & Tommy Lee Jones at their best; amazing. The Shootist - Watch The Duke in his last performance...vulnerable. With Jimmy Stewart to boot. Micheal Collins - Liam Neeson & Alan Rickman as heroes of the Irish Republican Army. If you dig Neeson & "Braveheart", try "Rob Roy" Sling Blade - Billy Bob Thorton in a tale of a retarded man and justice. damn impresive. Yojimbo - Later remade as "Fistfull of Dollars" (one of the best) and then "Last Man Standing". Come see legendary Kurosawa's ("Seven Samurai") originator. Mr Smith goes to Washington - A young, idealistic Jimmy Stewart. Great if you go for politics & Americana. Dr Strangelove - A dark war comedy that everyone should see. Fuckin hilarious. Papillon - Steve McQueen (another American Badass) and Dustin Hoffman in the only prison movie better than "The Great Escape", tho "Shawshank" is close. Also try Hoffman in "Little Big Man" for a Forrest Gump of the West. Good stuff. There's plenty of others, but there ya go.
  7. Comics out there worth readin Irish Cowboy ||10-15-2001| |08:59 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| To fill in the void created by the end of Preacher... Ultimate Spider-Man - Spidey's never been so good. The writings so good, several issues can go by before you realize there hasnt been a fight. Even chicks read it, i swear. Ultimate X-Men - 'Cause the regular X-men book is shit. Transmetropolitan - Come see Warren Ellis' political opus, featuring bowel disruptor rays, puppy killing and lots of drugs. Origins - Finally, where Wolverine comes from. Youd think it'd be a risky book to do, but its actually surpassing its own hype. Hellblazer - John Constantine vs Neo nazis in a well written book. Nick Fury - Old war dog is back, written by Garth Ennis. Fuckin great. Punisher - Another Ennis hit. This man can do no wrong. Powers - Great crime book by same guy as Ultimate Spidey. Sweepin the awards lately too. Warlands - As close as youll get to Final Fantasy in comis. Green Arrow - Watch Kevin Smith revive a long dead DC character and actually like it. Adventurs of the Rifle Brigade: Operation Bollock - Again, Ennis, but instaed of the usual "crusade to capture hitler's cryogenically-preserved head", its the race to keep the axis powers from securing his lost testicle. I'm not kidding. Rising Stars - J. Micheal Stravensky, former writer of Bablyon 5 (never watched it but heard it was ok) on comics, the best team book since Alan Moore's immotal "Watchmen". Midnight Nation - Stravensky's other book. A cop with 48 hours to get back his soul. Bone - Great, black & white fantasy book, better than Warlands but almost done. In december, the sequel to Frank Miller's "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" - possibly the greatest comic book ever written - begins, in "The Dark Knight Strikes Again". I cant wait. Between that, Origins, and Marvel's upcoming "Heroes: Tribute to the firefighters & EMS of 9-11-01" book (with everyone on it from Todd McFarlane to Kevin Smith, and Ennis, natch), this year will end on a very high note. yahve ||10-17-2001| |05:36 PM| You forget the other emmy award winning comic out there... Blamin poor ol Stan Lee, just cause the man cant write much anymore...doesnt bein a creator mean anything anymore? OishiiChan ||10-23-2001| |09:19 AM| |Oishii_chan@hotmail.com| In my opinion most american comics suck ass, I genrally tend to lean toward Japanese comics ( manga). They have better plots, fight scenes, sex scenes, and are 3 times as thick as an american one. But hey that is my personal opinion. I use to read american comics, a lot when i was kid, then someone shoved an american translated version of DBZ in my face of all things it was better than anything I had ever seen befor, ever since I have been hooked. However the exception to biasedness is Sin City. Irish Cowboy ||10-23-2001| |03:02 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| That...thats interestin. While I admit manga's got a cooler style for action scenes - many American comics use it now - and i dig the size of em (that akira one was a fuckin encyclopedia), i gotta say, you musta been readin archie or somethin. The plot and dialogue nowadays in many of the more well-written books (im talkin the modern ones here, many times devoid of superheroes at all, so no underoos on the outside) kicks the shit out of so much manga ive attempted to read, its sad. The comedy manga is great, but anythin else comes off excessively wordy (Take Ghost in the shell, a well done book which buries itself in narraration, leaving you more lost than the anime.) I dunno. American books with soild writers - Garth Ennis, Frank Miller, Brian Micheal Bendis - make every manga i touch resemble the plot of a porno. And on that topic, if youre into comics for sex - which by the way, is kinda weird - even "family" companies like Marvel are now forced to put out a mature line, called "Max", with just as much violence and sex found in Vertigo books these days. Im tellin ya, i started this post b/c comics arent what they were; due to the lack of popularity, the censors stop givin a shit, and its finally becoming a legitimate art form. Ya oughta give it a try. Irish Cowboy ||10-23-2001| |03:04 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| And wait a sec...DBZ? For the love of god, i hope that book moves at a better pace than the ridiculously overrated anime. "Will Vegita do a goddamn thing in the next 3 episodes, or will this cheezy narrorator continue to prattle on?? Tune in next time!" Ugh. At least Flames of Recca garunteed a fight or two an episode, ya know? But hey, maybe the manga aint so bad. I just cant imagine it holdin a candle to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Kingdom Come, or Preacher. bacchus ||10-23-2001| |03:11 PM| |bacchus979@hotmail.com| fuck manga.... fuck 'em right in their transexual ass! TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Hmm....link seems dead, at least over here. Only online comic ive looked at is Penny Arcade, which is kinda funny. Its just..Yahven's anime manga thing sounds ok, but damn i need people who've read real comics here, besides me and Aadil. Gotta get Imam, Carlos, maybe Luis in board, and put this trendy manga stuff in its place - American artists have become badass, and thanks to a influx of British writers, i can honestly say nothin else out there seems to hold a candle to it. 'Cept for all those funny books - ya know, the ones without the pictures. Some of em are ok too. Irish Cowboy ||10-24-2001| |07:15 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Christ, come to think of it, the ohter contributors on this topic are fans of Stone, fans of comic sex, completely irrelevant, or eager to piss on things. Dunno, Yahven...but I miss Imam. Needin some balance here, someone who knows bout at least a few of the books i mentioned in the first postin. Oishiichan| |11-07-2001| |12:40 PM| |Oishii_chan@hotmail.com| Actually some of my favorite manga have nothing to do with sex, and the DBZ manga is much faster going than the anime, I never understood why the anime was so drawn out. Berserk is one of my Favs, it is very plot heavy but gothic, I also happen to enjoy Ranma very much, I liek comedy. I happen to have read X-men, Bat man, and many other comics as a child, I found them all boring and lacking in something until Bat Man the Dark Knight came out, now that kicked butt. Maybe I like action, maybe I just find american style art work well not that great, or I am just plane biased because I know a bunch of people who do the manga. Sigh. My friend Kotobuki did the Toshinden Manga and his favorite comic is Witch Blade go figure. Irish Cowboy ||11-07-2001| |03:36 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Berserk looked interestin, but you prolly dont care for American books 'cause ya havent read em since the dark knight returns, which was almost 15 years ago. Theyve matrued a bit in that time. hell, the sequel to Batman DKR comes out in less than a month. While the late 80's were kind to comics, with that book and Watchmen, the last couple years have spawned a respect for Marvel with an adult line, good writers like Garth Ennis, Neil Gaiman, Brian Micheal Bendis, Mark Millar etc, and some badass artists on their books as well. Folks like Kevin Smith (director of Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy etc) write, J. Micheal Stravensky (writer of one of those Star Trek series), etc; nevermind the many gifts of DC's marture line of Vertigo books: From Sandman, Preacher, Hellblazer, Transmetropolitan, etc - American comics have grown up. Your manga friend likes Fathom for the art anyway, which due to new ways of inking, coloring and such is far better than years before. Anyway, if youre not interested, fair enough, but if you do enjoy graphic novels and alla that, youre missin out on some great shit lately. bacchus ||11-13-2001| |03:42 PM| |bacchus979@hotmail.com| Alien Vs predetor the trade paper back is pretty damn good.... its dark horse so it has the maturity of at least vertigo comics. except for the monsters none of the character show up in the book that are in the movies (thank god). the story line is engrosing, by far better than some high profile marvel and DC stuff. i say comparabe to batman year one easily. the book reads more like a novel than a comic. the writing is top caliber and apart form the cheap printing style of tipical early Dark horse stuff the art is pretty kick ass as well (it kinda grows on u like steve Dillion). definitly should be read by any self proclaimed Comic guru.
  8. Silent Hill 2 review Irish Cowboy ||10-28-2001| |04:32 AM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| Upon completion of the game, I feel its fair to make a review now, and even tho me & Timbo are bout the only folks here with a chance at playin it, here i go anyway. *Graphics:Highly detailed. A tad grainy at first, but ealry in the game you'll realize that's part of the effect: its a haze found in certain scenes of "Seven" and such. It can be turned off, after you beat the game, but while high-rez mode looks great, it's not as fitting. Cut-scenes are amazingly well animated, and the in-game graphics are not too far off. The visuals make up a large part of the environment, along with.. *Sound: Cant remember the last time a game utilized sound this well. While a bose system isnt necessary, a system of at least 2 front speakers is a bare minimum; playing this game in mono would be a crime. Beasts can be heard moaning and approcahing from all angles; screams can be heard in the distance, and just like last time, the soundtrack along makes you want to piss your pants. Many times, the sound will unnerve you more than the visuals, and that's sayin a lot. One thing oughta be said for the sound during CG's & cut scenes: Again, well done. The dubbing is excellent, voice acting is top-notch. Combined with the quality of the CG's, characters move and sound exactly how they ought to in the game's many disturbing cinemas - just when you think running into a human will lighten things up, it makes you even more uncomfortable. *Gameplay - Again, Resident Evil type controls, which I'm great with, but can be a tad rough on a new player. Very responsive nonetheless, and even on hard mode, both enemies and puzzles maintain difficulty, but never so much as to throw the game out the window or buy a strategy guide (but the online one helped). The game is linear enough to leave the player temporarily stumped, but never lost. *Overall: An unparalled experience. I've never so much wanted to stop playing a game and yet keep playing at the same time, just to see what's going on. Much like part 1, every time you think you know where the plot's going, you're tripped up. Take Timbo's immortal advice on the series: "Play it alone and in the dark." The game will constantly unnerve you, and not in a Wes Craven, Resident Evil pop-up kind of scare, but rather a constant unsettling, more akin to the opening day showing of "Blair Witch" (the first part, and back when folks thought it was real an all). The game will fuck with you, but the excellent storytelling and pace/progression, which does not even lose wind towards the end as most recent games have, will keep you going, if for no other reason to end it. And with 5 endings (ive seen 3 so far) and hidden items/weapons/options openeing after each ending, there's replay value to boot. **9.7, only due to the control system & a few other very minor complaints. A must buy for PS2 and soon-to-be X-box (boo!). Irish Cowboy ||10-28-2001| |03:22 PM| |TheIrishCowboy@hotmail.com| PS could someone have Timbo read this? Im just about done with the game if he wants to borrow it. He can definitely borrow Devil May Cry tho, i think he'd really go for it.

Oh my. What has the world come to. No I don't believe it. This must be one of those fancy life imitating art imitating life ficticious accounts. Our good ol boys in blue are true heros. They know not the meaning of corruption. We pay them good money too take a blind eye to money, power and women. They don't need these little trinkets. They feel great pleasure from the joys of helping fellow man. This is a vile slander of a movie to America's best. I propose a boycott of this filth. 10. Irish baseball joke Irish Cowboy |10-30-2001|04:23PM An Irishman visits the United States and finally attends his first baseball game. The first batter approached the batters box, took a few swings and then hit a double. Everyone was on their feet screaming "Run", Run!!" The next batter hit a single & the Irishman listened as the crowed again cheered "RUN, RUN" The Irishman enjoyed the game and began screaming with the fans. The fifth batter came up and four balls went by. The umpire called "walk" and the batter started his slow trot to first base. The Irishman stood up and screamed, "R-R-Run ye bastard, run!" The people around him began laughing. Embarrassed, the Irishman sat back down. A friendly fan noted the man's embarrassment, leaned over and explained - "He can't run - he got four balls." The Irishman stood up and screamed, "Walk with pride,lad.......walk with pride!!"
