  1. 219 was alright. Not the most exciting card. Khabib is a machine alright. Not the most powerful striker but he got right in Barboza's face the whole fight and didn't let him use his kicks.

Khabib v Ferguson is the logical next step while McGregor does his millionaire playboy act for a few more months. I don't think Ferguson will present a problem for either Khabib or Conor. Although I could be biased in favour of my fellow Irishman. Getting kind of fed up with his shenanigans though. As Ferguson said, "defend or vacate, motherfucker".

Holm gave a good account of herself but Joe Rogan said it best at time, she was just outsized and outmuscled by the bigger woman.

Man, Mighty Mouse has to be one of the all time greats. The flyweight division is kinda weak so he has yet to be properly tested though. Dillashaw wants to go down and try his luck against him. That could be interesting.

  2. Bit late to this but a late reply is better than none I guess.

GSP showed he still has the stuff after 4 years off and going up a weight. I've a lot of respect for that guy. He's now sidelined indefinitely due to injury which is a pity because it would have been cool to see his second coming.

MMA is pretty devoid of superstars right now with McGregor sleeping on his pile of money and Jon Jones fucking up again.

Looking forward to Miocic Vs Ngannou. The way he slept Overeem with that uppercut was bananas.

  3. I looked at the docs for the Merge script and it assumes you have the myBB software and the source forum installed on the same server with access to the same database. During the merge process it asks for the database server info and pulls everything in itself. Pretty nifty.

According to the forums there are hiccups sometimes where it doesn't quite pull everything in but by and large it works without any major issues. There's quite a few threads on their support forum of people migrating from IPB 3. The only issue seems to be recreating the user profiles after they're copied across but they seem to have fixed this with an update since.

They've a fairly helpful and active community with a ton of dudes creating plugins and skins too. Looks promising.

  4. So any thoughts?

I've downloaded that merge system (it isn't bundled with the main forum software) that supports imports from IPB but I think the version that Hondos runs isn't supported. It's open source though so I'm sure the community has the answer to this problem somewhere.

    Edit:

    Derp...

Apparently Hondos runs v3.2 of IPB if that wee line of text in the footer is to be believed. Nick, can you confirm this? If so the merge system should work. Can you send me whatever IPB exports so we can test this out?

  5. OK so I said I'd do this for Nick quite a while ago but I'm shit at life so it's only being done now. Fuck off.

Putting my findings in a thread so everyone can have a nose and provide feedback.

I started out with some assumptions:

    • Must be able to replicate most of the current features of IPB e.g. reputation, custom user titles, chatbox etc.
    • Must be relatively easy to setup and maintain.
    • Must be extensible with plugins and shit. Bitches love plugins.
    • Be reliable (which rules out anything in beta)
    • ???
    • Profit

The most promising candidate I've found so far is myBB. I opted for open source stuff as I know IPBs support has been lacking. This stuff has become so user friendly that I don't think paying for anything other than web hosting and the accompanying support is necessary. Once the forum software is installed on the server and running smoothly then I don't see any need for tech support to intervene unless it's for backups, downtime or major issues.

    Anyway here's the link: https://mybb.com/

Also Flarum which is in beta but looks pretty slick: http://flarum.org/

There's also phpBB which is kinda basic if I'm being honest. However, it is very moddable if we want to go down that route: http://www.try-phpbb.com/31x/

In terms of preserving as much of the original forum as possible I'm not certain that's going to be possible. If the softwares becoming unreliable then I can only imagine it's either a teardown job or stick with what we've got. Migrating user info shouldn't be problem but post counts and other stuff that's close to peoples hearts will likely vanish.

  6. I keep seeing this name everywhere - in headlines n' little side-blurbs - after flipping around Netflix and not finding anything cool, I thought I'd give this a shot.

I'm sure everyone has already praised the 80s aesthetic (I haven't perused this thread yet), it was very cool. I really felt like I was taken back and watching an 80s made-for-tv King adaption - w/ a twist of Spielberg. I honestly got taken aback when '2016' appeared in the series-info when I had to click on the next episode - LOL! Like, an absolutely stellar job in recreating that vibe n' feel. Outstanding.

Content? Eh. Too many leaps in logic and just...dumb moments that took me out of the whole thing.

I was totally in during the first 2-3 episodes - then around the 5th, it just started to feel like this was aimed at...a younger audience? It just felt really thin n' weak. Way too many 'How did they connect those dots?!' moments. It felt way too formulaic, to the point where I was dictating scenes as they happened. It became frustrating around the 5th episode, where I just threw in the towel.

I had been teetering, but the moment where that girl just went inside that treehole - w/out letting her monster-hunting 'partner' know or w/out any gear or w/out any trepidation...I just couldn't recover. The whole thing just turned into a bunch of stupid, for me.

I finished it, hoping the ending / answers would justify the 5-star rating it has on Netflix - but, nope. I didn't understand what the monster was - where it came from (yeah, an alternate dimension(?) - but, how was Will able to hide from the monster, but others couldn't? How was he able to communicate? There were cars n' buildings in the 'Upside Down'...if a car moved in our dimension, does it move there too? They must be connected, but...wtf, I didn't even understand 11's connection to the place.

So, the 'bad guys' won? Will puked up a worm at the end? What does that mean? Up to my imagination, I guess...an utterly unsatisfying ending.

Great performances, but the dialogue was cringey at times and the script felt...really thin...stretched out? This could've been a movie, if it had an ending and defined antagonists.

"My mom says she can hear Will's voice...so Barbara could still be alive."

    Ugh.

It was okay - but ultimately kinda hollow. A shame - 'cuz it had the potential to be something great - if it had content. The aesthetic n' tone (attributed to honestly, good performances) was really the star. Extremely awesome.

btw - I know who I'm casting as Dave when I film my adaption of Maniac Mansion.

I dunno, man. I think you're beating it with the wrong stick. It's certainly flawed plot-wise but I accepted very early on that the plot was just a vehicle for the character development. It became ten times more enjoyable after that.

It was an experience for me, not a story if that makes any sense. A pleasantly rustic distraction. The innocence of it was refreshing too. Entertainment now seems stuffed to bursting with grit and realism which I've largely bought into but it's nice to have some fun with a show once in a while.

  7. Guh double post. Surprised there isn't more chat about this show.

I finished Season 4 recently and I can safely say OITNB goes from strength to strength. This season was by far the darkest yet. Shit gets real in a big way in certain episodes. Also...

Pousseys death broke my damn heart. She was such an interesting character. So full of heart too. The final episodes flashbacks of her adventure in New York just laid on the feels even more.

I like how the show calls attention to the injustices that happen every single day. Especially the shit that goes on with corporate-run prisons and the sheer absence of human compassion in these organisations.

  8. Haven't seen a show this good in a long time. It was what Super 8 should have been.

I know Winona Ryder has gotten some bad press in years gone by but I really liked her performance in this. She portrayed the mother-who-isn't-perfect-but-is-doing-her-damndest perfectly. I also liked the older brother of the kid who went missing (the names escape me). I could really relate to this character.

  9. The Diaz vs McGregor fight was hands down the best MMA fight I've ever seen. It was worth staying up until stupid o'clock for.

I can't comment on the state of boxing but UFC certainly seems to create more buzz. At least in my circles anyway.

  10. Couldn't get past the second episode. It was a truly forgettable show for me. As a true blue computer nerd I'm instinctively hostile to anything containing the word "hackers".

Did I make the right choice? If you guys give it a solid recommendation I'll persevere but that'll mean having to endure Christian Slaters' stupid face for more precious minutes of my life than I'm willing to sacrifice.

  11. Resurgence smacks of cash-in. I was so excited about a sequel for years but this doesn't look like the same lovable adventure the original was. The trailer is stylistically similar to a Transformers trailer which raises my hackles somewhat.

That said, all they really need to do to make this film watchable is pace it well, keep reminding us of the first one and give us some cool action sequences.

Bonus points if they make a subtle joke about hacking a sophisticated alien computer network with a 90s Mac.

  12. It's really taking off especially in the wake of McGregors success. I don't watch it religiously but if it happens to be on TV I'll watch it. That said, I will stay up till stupid o'clock to watch the McGregor fights.

It's an entertaining sport and despite the danger involved I do get a neanderthal thrill from the "no holds barred" nature of it compared to boxing or martial arts.

  13. This is a thread for metal. By metal I meanMehhhtuuuuhhhhhllllI'll post a couple of albums each week or two (or whenever I feel like it because that's a metal attitude to have) to showcase the range of sounds you can get in this wee genre and how there is a metal album for everyone.

    First up:

    Strapping Young Lad - City

    220px-Strappingyoungladcity.jpg

Notable tracks: All Hail The New Flesh, Detox and AAA.

Devin Townsend the lead singer has to be one of metals most underrated musicians. He has fingers in a lot of pies and SYL is the tip of very large iceberg. He's also funny as hell and takes the piss out of metal bands who take themselves way too seriously (which is most of them).

Now for something far more Swedish and angry:

    Meshuggah - ObZen

    obZen.jpg

Notable tracks: Combustion, Bleed and ObZen.

A fine example of technical death metal. It's not the best album by Meshuggah but it's a good intro to their sound. It's the most accessible example of their unique off-kilter sound. It may sound like repetitive noise to the uninitiated but on repeat listens you start to appreciate the incredible skill and technicality of the music.

  14. Is Marvel Unlimited worth the money? I wasn't sure about it until a friend of mine showed it to me on his Android device. That Dynamic Panel mode or whatever is pretty slick. Could be perfect for my tablet and would save me having lots of dead trees about the place.

It'd probably work out at about 5-6 euro moneys for me which seems pretty rad for unlimited comics.
