  1. GDC 2011: Yu Suzuki: 'Sega Will Probably Let Me Make Shenmue 3'

GDC 2011: Yu Suzuki: 'Sega Will Probably Let Me Make Shenmue 3 '

At a Game Developer's Conference discussion, Yu Suzuki revealed that Sega may allow him to make Shenmue 3 in the future. The question arose from a stack of audience questions, with one audience member inquiring simply, "when will Shenmue 3 be released?"

“Well, I want to make it,” began Suzuki. “About 200 people will buy it, I think. But funding is an issue,” he said. He first cleared up a few facts about the original Shenmue. First of all, the game was to be the Dreamcast's killer app. “We talked about a Virtua Fighter RPG," he said, "with Akira as the character we would use.”

“From the beginning, the new title without using Akira would be more acceptable,” he said, so they went in a different direction. According to Suzuki, the $70 million Sega said it cost was an embellishment. It was "only $47 million," he said. "Well, maybe I shouldn't say only," he joked.

Where did all that money go, in 1999 dollars? “We spent it on development and marketing… actually where did we spend it again?” he joked.

Getting back around to the subject of Shenmue 3, Suzuki finally stated, “Probably Sega will let me make it. I think. It's simply a problem of budget.”

    I know, I know...too soon for celebration.

    C'mon HD Releases.

  2. How 'bout that Demon's Souls!! Winter Solstice still in full effect. Coming Monday

....too bad I lent out my copy

The brilliant Demon's Souls for the PlayStation 3 will keep its unique online experience intact for at least the next ten months in North America, publisher Atlus said today, extending the life of From Software's deviously hard role-playing game.

Atlus USA has extended Demon's Souls' online service beyond the previously announced March 2011 (potential) cut off date. The publisher promises to support Demon's Souls servers until its second anniversary—October 6, 2011. And there's hope beyond that.

"We will support the online servers for Demon's Souls as long as we possibly can, and we'll be as transparent about the entire process as possible, hence us constantly updating folks as to what to expect," said Atlus PR man Aram Jabbari.

Atlus will also be switching the online servers to a Pure White Tendency mode for the holidays, a change that should extend into the new year. They also remind us, "Hey, Demon's Souls is a Greatest Hits game. How about buying a copy?"

  3. I just gotta say that this past episode (10) is probably the best one this season. While slow at first, it gradually heated up. I do have to agree with Panch that certain characters don't feel like themselves but the new ones like Lumen (Styles has been excellent) and Chase (to this point) have been played out really well.

**Sigh** I just sense tragedy ahead. This Dexter/Lumen Duo is not meant to be (Dexter fucked the girl...she will now die).

Let's hope this season ends with a bang like the last one. Two more episodes to go. :pinch:

  4. Not happening, it's a misprint that comes with the new style of boxart as a part of the current all games have trophies mandate. The same misprint is on the greatest hits version of Devil May Cry 4.

the cat found me. plus, i would've "won" by celebrating, then heartbreak

yeah, i just check GAF/kotaku/etc, this would've been all over the place if legit. here's to not having to do BBE run again! yet, or possibly ever?

And at first,I was all like...

..yeah, that about covers my range of emotions. Maybe next year!

  5. yeah, lotta net-hate on poochie-dante. having not given an honest shit about DMC since 2 came out, this is easy to say, but:

    1) Heavenly Sword was indeed a cool game, no idea some keep giving it "mediocre" - great presentation when the ps3 was early/hard to code for, i was already more interested than GOW. it's just short.

    2) isnt this still a beat-em-up that has a stylized/basdass character with abysmal dialogue/plot?

    3) its a young dante. he's into 70's brit-pop is my guess. something happens, his hair goes white/silver as the game progresses, and he dons a red jacket. fans are sated.

also, that said: i get space's complaint, no idea why Inafune's outsourcing all of the games that aren't his..its not like Capcom's team isnt talented enough to do this stuff themselves (theyve done the Monster Hunters, Lost Planet 2, several others recently), mebbe they're trying to reinvigorate some franchises like Nintendo letting team ninja handle metroid...not sure why they're calling this a sort've "reboot" though, i wasnt overly interested in what i saw of 4 but it was well received, as i recall?

Wow really? Never played 3? Best one in the series. I got 4 if you wanna give that a whirl.

1)As for Heavenly Sword, yeah, it was good, just not great and quite frankly never came close to GoW 2 in the gameplay department (I think).

2)While I'm not hating on the game (yet...), I gotta throw my 2¢ out there on the design choice.

3)Yeah, the whole hair thing going from black to white is a bit intriguing but the overall feel is just not there for me. I mean, if Dante is this emo, I can't begin to imagine Vergil.

    Tekken (2010) [DVD]

    D+

Terrible. Terrible fucking movie. Cheap effects. Corny dialogue. Horrendous delivery. Laughable costumes. Atrocious sountrack. And that's just five minutes into the movie, folks. Oh, and don't even get me started on the story. I can't knock it completely though. Tamlyn Tomita does an acceptable job in her short-lived depiction of Jun Kazama. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa was a decent Heihachi and Ian Anthony Dale stood out as a some-what badass Kazuya... some-what. Oh yeah, Luke Goss as Steve Fox was ok too... except he's bald and doesn't really box. Everyone else just looked the part (barely in some cases and not at all in others) and not much was contributed to their respective characters. Some of the choreography was decent but overall it's easy to see why it didn't even make it to theaters (except in Japan). While no where near as bad as The Legend of Chun-Li, this movie can at least be viewed for some of the fights and a gratuitous amount of ass shots via Christie Monteiro. But even then, view at your own risk. As a semi Tekken fan, I didn't want to see it, I felt like I had to. It kinda hurt.

  8. From Friday to Sunday, I woke up promptly at 11 a.m. to shower, make some food, wake up little brother up (because he didn't want to miss it either), go to my computer room, get comfy, and blast the audio while watching the EVO stream on my 23" wide-screen monitor. My brother and I saw every minute of it. These stream didn't end till around 3 a.m. and i was glued for most of it.

At times I was yelling at the screen:

    1rrfcw.jpg

When I saw certain top players go down against unknowns; udder disbelief:

    s0vtl0.gif

Then Ono comes up on stage talking about his next game...BUT SAYS NOTHING!!!

    evo2010_daigo13.jpg

He practically trolled the entire EVO audience with his so-called 'announcement'. The audience was not pleased.

    314rvps.gif

    And I'm like:

    6yzj37.jpg

Anyway, when finals were about to begin, I kinda lost hope. Look, no offense against Ricky O., he's a great player and all but when America's last hope is this:

    ricky-ortiz.jpg

you kinda feel like your ship has sailed. However as the finals progressed, things got good. So much so I was cheering for 'Pretty Ricky' and astound with some of the shit he was pulling:

    friday-damn-large.jpg

As the fight progressed, THE FUCKING STREAM WENT DOWN!!! All 30k of us watching burst in anger, flooding the stream provider with nasty hate mail. Twenty minutes later, the stream was back, a winner was declared and everyone was just let down. All we got was a half-assed apology and the stream provider saying the videos would be on youtube hours later. It was 3 a.m. so I said fuck it and proceeded to bed.

    Kanye-Shrug.jpg

So to sum things up, yeah, I was watching it somewhere.

  9. Hmmm... There's two "Big Three"s now. The original in Boston, and the new one in Miami. Easy way to differentiate: "The Boston Three Party" and "The Miami Big Three" or Boston can just switch it up to 4, because Rondo's becoming that amazing.

The "Boston Three Party"...I like that. "The Miami Big Three" doesn't have a nice ring to it though. I'm a simple man and I'd settle on "The Miami H3AT" or, to simplify things further, nWo:

Seriously, they should just say fuck it and make that the new Miami Heat theme song.... that, or the

Wait. What? Am I getting this right?! You're not siding with Konami and winking over at Capcom's direction?

Nick, don't get the girls excited now.

In any case, there's always room at Club Capcom.

Greet the nice girl at the entrance and make sure you sign in at the front desk.

Oh yeah, don't forget to pick up the free Sengoku Basara schwag on the way in.

  11. Ah. Final Fantasy VIII. As pretty as it was, I could not follow that story as a teenager. Its not till I played it again two years ago where I was just taken aback at the insanity in this game. Intergalactic time traveling witches, moon monsters, obscure flashbacks that conveniently reveal that your entire party grew up together in the same orphanage. Oh Final Fantasy VIII, you rascal. Wait... how did this thread go from XIII to VIII? Someone forget to add the extra V? ^_^

  12. FF XIII OST paino - July 21st! shame they skipped XII, but XIII's OST really is outstanding, cant wait to hear certain tracks. i adore these piano ones; i wasnt as big a fan of VIII's, for instance, till i heard the amazing piano rendition, even made "Eyes on Me" sound good.

Oh man! I love the FF piano collections. VI, VII, and X are probably my faves (VIII and IX had a select few standouts). While I absolutely loved some songs in XIII, I hated most of them. Here's hoping they sound better played on some ivory.
