Well now with the move done and my stuff unpacked time to get my retro gaming setup going. Sadly as with all moves it seems I've lost a few things.

can't find the dreamcast VGA cables(though it's been years since my dc was connected so who knows) and it seems in the move I've misplaced my n64 controller and power supply) also misisng SNES cables(av and power) but thats a bit less important atm.

Once I get that sorted out all I need is my GC component cables*cough*jaysendthemplease*cough* and I'm good to go for now. once I get stuff sorted I'll post pics.

God damn it, I can't decide what to play next, I"m coming off planescape and gravity rush... and between steam, ps3, vita, 3ds, dreamcast, GC and and god knows what else I'm stuck... arrrggghhh...

The best part I think is how you read it over a few times and everything still isn't clear, I'm betting on some other various ways you get fucked that we don't relaise yet.

I think Sony will continue Cross play going forward the problem with pass titles is that you have to go back and reprogram them and that's a non trivial thing and who's going to do it? I'd be very surprised is anything ps3 past now. is only playable on ps3 at this point. There's also been alot of rumors that Last of us and Beyond will both have ps4 ports at some point and we basically know this to be true for gt6(though it will be some kind of ultimate edition in 2014).

The problem is that the for the consumer it all looks the same, well even if some the psn games could run on your toaster they still have to be reprogrammed to do so and again, it isn't always worth it for the dev to go back and do it even if they have the time to do so(and thats often not the case for smaller teams.) Personally I think between Gaikai and the change to off the shelf hardware this will the last time that BC will be an issue.

Also on a similar note wtf microsoft for using a new port for headphones that won't work with old ones you already own... sigh.

The lack of compatibility for XBLA and PSN titles in the next gen really upsets and moreover, baffles me. I've invested quite a lot in both and it seems like MS and Sony are making a concerted effort to partition and exclude the libraries. We have confirmed continuity of accounts (a aspect of console gaming with no previous precident) across gens, and PSN store and XBOX live arcade will continue, why compartimentalize the titles?

 

This is particularly baffling on Sony's end on account of the Vita. Currently, the Vita shares content between PS3 and PSP, accessing essentially the same store and digital library, with cross-buy and cross-play titles becoming more and more frequent. With the Vita just at the beginning of it's cycle and being touted as being deeply incorporated with the PS4 ecosystem, it seems strange to deliniate network titles in such a way, almost like they are going out of thier way to do so.

 

I'm picturing a 3 pool Venn diagram, where PS3 content can be shared with the Vita, and the Vita can share with PS4 content, but NOOO, the PS3 and PS4 can't share content, zat iz not allowed!

Just to chime in as nick and I have long talks about this. I was never really surprised by this, I hoped they would find a way but frankly it came down to cost, as best as I can guess it would add probably around 100 buck extra for them to include a cell and rsx(as there is no way to emulate the ps3 at this time) if they did that then you might as well write the ps4 obit cause it would cost too much. Now Yoshida(head of sony studios) did say that it would be easy to emu ps1 and ps2 games but they didn't want to talk about it yet. I think you'll be able to play ps1, ps2, and I"m hoping psp games on the ps4, the only way we are getting ps3 games will be through gaikai and we'll see how that goes.

Look I would love to have BC here but I honestly don't know how you get there from an engineering standpoint while keeping the cost in the place you want it and having the level of power to be next gen. I do think if they get the Gaikai thing going it's the best compromise as long as they don't make you rebuy your games.

meh, this entire thing was very much not for gamers, so for me I'm going to go pre order a ps4. I was really hoping for more gameplay footage at least.
