  1. I bought the wrong Raspberry Pi 3. I purchased the basic and I needed to buy the one that had the HD ports and such (it was a $5 difference). I have to wait until Monday so that I can talk to their customer service department. I was hoping to get the retro-gaming machine up and running by my son's 5 birthday, which is July 11. Doesn't look like that is going to be happening now.

  2. I am in no way technically proficient. I thought it reads like a cookbook though, except for a couple of details that I looked up on my own. I learned to cook through cookbooks and experimentation.

If it works out, I can send you one if you reimburse me (or if you wait until my wife is working again in a year, I can send you one for free).

I will order it today based on the recommendations of the group. What controls do you guys suggest (different than the link?)? Also, I will totally take you up on the offer, NZA!

  3. Dear Honodo's,

I've saw that SNES is selling a new machine and I have been reading about it like crazy. One of the articles I read talked about using a Raspberry Pi 3 to build a retro unit pretty cheap and you can play all the games from NES, SNES, Genesis, and PS One.

Here is the article with the link.

What do you guys think I should do? I bow to your collective wisdom when it comes video games.

  4. Yeah. I check my updates from Amazon and Best Buy like a fiend. I'm thinking I might make him a retro-build. I'm considering buying a cheap raspberry pi 3 with some controllers and build one. I'm going to open a thread for that though so I don't hijack this one.

  5. I am not a collector at all. I play a video game maybe one a year for less than an hour if I am lucky. I want to buy this for my son who is turning 5. I think the SNES is a much more appropriate gaming platform than much of what is out there.

This was also a system that I never owned as a kid, but would sometimes play at my friends. Part of this is being able to play together with my son and giving him things that I didn't have.

Can I play other SNES games through the USB port or is it only games that come pre-loaded?

I'm considering just buying him a refurbished SNES and some old cartridge games. As some of you are experts on this topic, do you have any recommendations as to what I should do?

  6. This one hit me a little harder than most deaths. I was such a huge Soundgarden fan, especially in high school. I used to really enjoy listening to music and reading novels at the same time when I was younger (now I tend to read a lot more dense nonfiction that takes more concentration). I don't even know how many books I read while listening to Soundgarden albums. Chris Cornell just had such an amazing range as a vocalist.

  7. As part of a much more broad mid-life crisis I think I might be going through (thread on that later), I ordered a lot of 1000 random used cards over Ebay (no more than 4 duplicates for a card). I think I'm going to try to play this occasionally.

If your reading this Spacecowboy, would you be interested in getting together for a game?

  8. I do love a good cheeseburger once in a while. Jr's Burgers in Miami Springs is excellent (not fast food though). One of my recent favorites is the Pincho burger from the Pincho Factory. As long as they don't overcook the burger, it is magical. The fries are good too.

If the stock market takes a nice dive in the next month or two and I close out of my position in the bear fund I'm in, I'll treat all Hondonians that show up to a burger feast at either the Pincho Factory or Jr's Burgers. If the market starts to believe Trump might have a chance, there should be a large sell-off. We will see.

I will give a few weeks notice if something like that happens so that if anyone decided to make a trip out of it, they could join us.

  9. I'm familiar with Mexican coke and I have heard good things about it. I stopped drinking soda about 8 years ago. My taste buds have really changed when it comes to sugar. I don't even drink sugar in my coffee these days. I might drink a soda every year or two, but I find that I have trouble finishing it. It is too sweet for me now.

If I ate the way that I did as a kid, I would totally pay for it as well. I suppose I could eat the stuff that I listed once in a while without noticing any problems, but if I went two days eating that way, I don't think I would feel good at all.

  10. This is an interesting thread. I hadn't thought about foods that I have nostalgic feelings for in a long time. The foods that I have nostalgic feelings are Arby's curly fries, Arby's roast beef sandwiches, roast turkey sandwiches from Jewish delis, dirty-water hotdogs, and Dairy Queen soft serve vanilla ice cream cones. I also miss Coke and Sunkist soda in a glass bottle.

Fortunately, all of these foods are still available, although I haven't had any of them in quite some time, mostly because they aren't the healthiest of foods (maybe with the exception of the roast turkey sandwich on rye). My tastebuds have changed a lot since I was a kid too.

  11. I mostly read reviews through AV Club these days. Lissette and I settle on a TV show and watch for about an hour every night. This makes it so that we are really picky about what we watch.

I used to watch a lot of movies before I got married. I watched a lot less once I got married, but now I watch maybe 3 adult movies a year and a fair number of children's films.

I really loved Roger Ebert. I would read his reviews before seeing films. I occasionally will read a NY Times review, but it's not the same.
