The NZA Posted October 2, 2003 Share Posted October 2, 2003 ACTOR (A Comittment To Our Roots) - a federally-funded benefit foundation for helping classic comic creators in financial need (many who created our icon characters went unpaid, and are now in need of medical care & such), has been all over conventions for the last year or so raising funding, like the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Various big names have atteatched themselves to the foundation, including Kevin Smith, Joe Quesada (Marvel editor-in-chief), Mark Alessi (CrossGen CEO), and more. Just wanted to make some more people aware of their existence, as well as this article on Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man & Hulk teamup book, whose proceeds go straight to ACTOR. It's a shame that so many creators are down or their luck. Jesus even Siegel and Shuster were broke as fuck until Neal Adam's sorted them out. Hadnt noticed that bit. 2T, i wasnt aware of Siegal & Shuster's plight, that's really awful, good for Neal Adams (you know the specifics here?). I read somehwere that Bob Kane used to leave sketches of Batman on napkins for tips; that's a trip. I'm just happy to see Marvel attempting to attone for its sins against many creators, especially Jack Kirby...that shit was awful when he died, and i completely understood why Frank Miller & so many others left angrily.
