  1. I just want to say that someone gave Thor an A rating?? Good lord sir, did we watch the same movie??

Just because I never got to rant about it here, and because I know SOMEONE was soooo looking forward to what they thought would be the greatest movie since Kick Ass...

    SuckerPunch F-

A horrible, horrible film in which a girl ends up...ahh fuck I don't even really know. It was just some excuse for some chicks to be scantily dressed and shoot things and fight. But being as this was Zach Snyder's (i believe) first original script, and that he had so much money and a free ticket to do whatever he wanted, this was an abysmal failure in my opinion. Avoid at all costs. It's not good even in a so bad it's good way.

  2. Watched the Live action version of Gantz today. Anyone familiar with the manga/anime will know exactly what the film will entail, though it is kinda neat to see what happens to the first round of guys "IRL" but otherwise just watch the anime or read the manga. Though it does end with a literal "TO BE CONTINUED" so who knows, maybe it'll be a trilogy with a bigger budget next time around.

  3. I must be doing something wrong because I will try to post something and Ill do a preview post and it'll just pop up with links i put instead of the videos themselves. I even went so far as to quote some people who had posted vids and stuff to see what their code looks like and it never matches the code I get from youtube etc. I just need to try it more and work out the kinks for myself...just me bitching at myself more than anything.

  4. When they did their price change I switched from DVD's to Streaming only. And yes there is quite a bit to be missed, but I have found that 99% of the time, if I can't stream it on netfix I can find it somewhere else and get it a lot quicker than it takes to mail out my dvd and get a new one. Plus I lost my mail back envelope at about my 3rd dvd in and haven't been arsed to mail it back. So....lol

  5. Come on now, who DOESN'T stream everything now-a-days?? And has all this paying for shit made you all forget about the lovely lost art of pirating? I know you want to support those Shaw Bros films and all but really, just download them. Better quality and subs anyways!

Either way, fuck DVD's...actually screw actual handheld media, except books! I can't read books on my ipad to save my life...it sucks. But come on, would you rather have to look through all those movies/games everytime you want to watch/play something different, or just have it all at your fingertips streamed/downloaded. Give up on your discs because one day soon they will be gone!

And in like 10 years when everything is purely digital/online only formats I can be like AA and be all "I called it!!"

  6. Witcher 2, from what ive heard, is a contender! 1, from what i played....nah. took it further than Oblivion, though!

Well I was trying to keep it at about the right time frame. If I can include new games, then there are quite a few better than Oblivion and Demon Souls. But are we only talking console games or what?

Because The Witcher 2 blows the first Witcher out of the water, except the end of the story apparently, but I am not there yet, so it is still an awesome game. So The Witcher 2>Oblivion/DS. But between the two... I would have to go with Oblivion. With the expansion and all the mods you can add it is just a lot more enjoyable than Demon Souls. And if we are just talking like console versions of the two games...then I would probably go with Demon Souls. Obliion to me just seemed like one dull dark tunnel after another, got very repetative at times. Demon Souls also had it's dank dark corridors, but it is just differet enough to give it an edge over Oblivion, and not just the difficulty.

  7. You guys are arguing a moot point...

The Witcher >>>>>>> Oblivion/DS...I enjoyed and put my fair shair into Oblivion and Demon Souls, but the Witcher was better than both in terms of story, gameplay, graphics, everything. So as long as you guys know that, continue your meaningless squabble. Much love!!

  8. Got my Collector's Edition and it comes with a download for the soundtrack, and like a mini-strat guide, and I don't want it, so if someone just jizzed in their pants reading I am giving this stuff away, then let me know you want it (no mentions of jizz or jizz related imagery pls) and I'll send the code and info your way.

I love how the back of the box basically says the game is so hard, the achievements will actually mean something.

  9. Well honestly the only game I've gotten all the 108 Stars on was V. And that was with a walkthrough. I think my end-game totaled at like 160 hours or so. I just wanted to see a "real" ending for once.

And one day I would like to go back and play the series in Chronological order according to the lore of the series and not release dates. But that'll be in like 20 years when I have nothing better to do with my life and can take like a year off to do that.

As for Teirkris and Tactics, they are all just basically variations on a theme, well THE theme of war and politics and such. I never got more than 10 hours or so into Teirkreis though.

And while they may not go back to make a new Suikoden anytime soon, maybe we can look forward to them "re-imagining" the series like they have done with Ys and Dragonquest. Or re-releases of the old games redone to the newer standards of such and such generation. IE Not so many damned random battles. Because you KNOW one day we will get all those ps2 games we loved on a portable system. Sony is just itching for a system that will let them make money on games theyve already got.

  10. Suikoden V is probably one of the most under-rated RPG's of all time. I own all of them (yes original discs and all) and I have played through them all except for the first one. I love the 108 stars of destiny, and I especially love the whole base building aspect that V did so well. Though the early story could use a little more umph to draw the players in. Or maybe it just seemed to take forever because I was trying to get all the extra characters.

As a whole the entire series is under-rated, but the first two entries on the ps2 are sort of hard entries to get into unless you are familiar with the series. 3 was good, just along side games like FFX and Tales of the Abyss, it doesn't look as pretty or play quite as easily. Same with 4, plus the amount of random sea battles is so damn high I don't think many people would put up with it to see the story through.

So they are done with the series completely now? I mean other than PSP/Vita/DS releases? Though Suikoden Teirkreis was good in it's own right. It'd be nice to see a Suikoden game with a nice big budget so they can really focus on every character and other aspects of the game and make it like the greatest, longest, most amount of playabale characters ever! Though I think they should keep it like they do and only make a certain amount of people you recruit playable. Having 108 different characters to lvl up and look after when you only use 6 at a time would be a little much. Imagine that achievement/trophy "Leveled all Stars of Destiny to Max Level" +5G/Bronze Trophy

  11. Nice! I really enjoyed 3, and 4 was fun for what I did play in it, but it had this horrible bug where the voices during cutscenes was so low you couldn't even hear it. I know it was subtitled, but it's still nice hearing the dialogue.

I'm glad they are at least releasing this new one in EU, though given 4 was put out here, there shouldn't be any reason they can't bring this one stateside as well. If not, just import it like you said. Speaking of imports, are there any threads going of good Jap/EU PS3 games that never made it over here that are worth importing?

  12. Ah wow a Tales game I didn't know about. Fuck a 60gb, I'd give my right nut (it's slightly smaller) for that console!

But now between that one and the Yakuza 3 console...I'm a bigger Tales fan so Ill change my vote to that one.

Speaking of Tales games and 60gb, one of the reasons I didn't hunt another one down after I lost my first one is because Tales of Legandia is just about unplayable on the 60gb. Cutscenes and areas render fine, but when you get into any fight the background does some wierd stuff and looks like theres a video driver issue. I guess its one of those games not in the 97.3% or whatever the percentage is for backwards compatability. Plus it's cheaper to just buy a ps2 than spend the extra money on a 60gb vs a "normal" ps3.

  13. I'm with Logan on the electronic stuff. VSnares, Aphex Twin, Dark Side of the Moog (listening to all 11 albums back to back while on acid has been a long dream of mine, too bad real acid doesn't exist anymore).

And hell between the first two bands alone you have literally a few months straight of music to listen too, more than enough for a lifetime worth of fucked-up-ed-ness.

Or you could take all that money you would invest tracking down and buying all that music into a synth and just make weird sounds of your own. Not too fun for the drunk crowd, but will amuse all others!

  14. I was just thinking about bootlegging it while I was replying to your post lol. I feel if I can't buy it, then there shouldn't be a problem with downloading it.

As for adventure games, I bought one of the old Atlantis games out of a bargin bin some years ago, with no clue what it was about, other than the pictures made it seem like a Myst-type game. Popped it in and spent the day beating it. It wasn't the best, or the prettiest, but for some reason it just started this love of all those old cheesy adenture games. And from there into the more realistic stuff like Syberia, Gemini Rue, Tex Murphy, Broken Sword etc. So I've dabbled quite a bit into the genre now, but any suggetions would be appreiciated, as it is a most under-rated genre imo.

  15. Why don't we get any cool ones over here? That Yakuza 3 one was badass...or hell even one of the FF13 ones...still better than the flat matte black one I have now. I had a DBZ sticker on my last ps3, but it died a horrible death. It was a 60gb too

    What's that first ps3 from?

I'd prolly would have bought that Yakuza one if they'd ever of offered it over here. Do Jap ps3's have a selectable english interface? Any problems with importing one over here? My ps3 knowledge on that stuff is nil...

  16. I'd go with Steam, just because they have a broader user base so they are more likely to be around the longest. Plus Steam has said that if they do ever shut down, they'll patch it so that you can download all your games and basically it'll turn into what GoG does for their games for some unspecified amount of time before they close. But you would have to download it before their servers went or it'd be gone. But that's BIG hypothetical right now. I don't see steam closing even in a major downfall in gaming worldwide.

On the other hand with GoG, you could just d/l the install file, put it on an external or something, and always have a copy wherever you went. Wouldn't have to worry about being online like with Steam as well...

Ah yes Grim Fandango, that's another one I would like to play. Never got to play it when it was out. Hadn't yet learned what a joy adventure games could be...I thought they were all Myst-like in diffculty and ambiance.

  17. GoG is awesome, been with them for a while now. My only problem with the new Raptor is there aren't any cheat codes for it...

Bin, how do you post your account page on here? Or did you just take a screenshot and link it?

Either way, like Steam, GoG is one of those places I love to support. Just waiting for them to release System Shock 2...hopefully, sometime, maybe?? Or even System Shock 1! That would be the shit! Oh and Freelancer, i'd like to pay for a copy one day...

NWN Diamond, Fallout, Jagged Edge, all those old adventure games you love to hate, Freespace 1 and 2 (which is what originally drew me to GoG).

Of course not many of you know about the depths of cash I've spent on Steam and GoG, but here to hoping GoG is around for a long time to come.

  18. Someone else played Nier and enjoyed it?? There isn't a god!!

When did I ever say sales = greatness/quality? If that were the case, then Wii Sports would be the greatest game of all time. I was just saying that it didnt sell well so there wont be many people to banter our opinions of this game with.

Shadows itself was enjoyable. It was just an average enjoyable experience to me. If it weren't for the dick jokes and excessive violence and names attached to the game, we probably wouldn't even be talking about it. Was the shooting spectacular? Not really. Were the guns memorable other than the names? Probably not. Were the puzzles ingenious and thoughtful? Nope. The story was good, but really what about this game makes it worthy of 9's? On the same note, do games like Call of Duty and Gears of War deserve 9's and 10's time after time? Hell no.

Really the only AAA title I rant and rave about is Mass Effect 1 & 2. Which IS better than killer 7. (Let's start a new forum for that arguement lol). Otherwise I tend to stay away from the AAA titles. I've found the indie crowd has better, fresher ideas than most mega-companies can come up with over a whole generation. Not that this is an example of new/fresh, but one of the games I have put the most time into in the past year is "Mount and Blade" which is a wonderful example of less is more. It was developed by a husband and wife team, but goddamn I can just lose hours and hours into that game. I would say that game deserves 9's and 10's, but I doubt anyone here would agree. But don't take stuff so personally NZA, your list (although missing Mass Effect 2) is pretty close to my own list of what will be remembered into the next gen. Though Catherine will be remembered for those damn climbing levels ever more so than the story.
