  1. From here.

Dog protected abandoned newborn, doctors say

(CNN) -- A dog sheltered a newborn baby abandoned by its 14-year-old mother in a field in rural Argentina until the boy was rescued, a doctor said Friday.

A resident of a rural area outside La Plata called police late Wednesday night to say that he had heard the baby crying in a field behind his house.

The man went outside and found the infant lying beside the dog and its six newborn puppies, said Daniel Salcedo, chief of police of the Province of Buenos Aires.

The temperature was a chilly 37 degrees, Salcedo said.

The dog had apparently carried the baby 50 meters from where his mother had abandoned him to where the puppies were huddled, police said.

"She took it like a puppy and rescued it," Salcedo said. "The doctors told us if she hadn't done this, he would have died.

"The dog is a hero to us."

Dr. Egidio Melia, director of the Melchor Romero Hospital in La Plata, said police showed up at the hospital at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday with the baby, who doctors say was only a few hours old.

Though the infant had superficial scratches and bruises and was bleeding from his mouth, he was in good shape, Melia said.

The next morning, the child's mother was driven by a neighbor to the hospital and told authorities that the 8-pound, 13-ounce infant is hers, Melia said.

The teenager was immediately given psychological treatment and was hospitalized, he said. She has said little about the incident.

The child has been transferred to a children's hospital in La Plata, 37 miles from Buenos Aires.

    that's pretty f'n amazing. <3

  2. Yes! OK, at least I know I'm not abnormal or anything...

psh, of course not! i know a couple other people who do that too.

and wendy's fries dipped in frosty is awesomely delicious.

sometimes, my dad puts ketchup on his scrambled eggs. when he was in the army, scrambled eggs were made from a powdered mix and tasted crappy so a lot of people used to put ketchup on them so he grew to like it that way.

i like to eat limes with salt every once in a while. i also used to squeeze lime juice onto salted chips and eat them.

  3. I usually eat my food in sections. Some examples: 1) Eat all my fries, then the burger. 2) eat my veggies, then my mashed taters, then my baked beans, then my steak. I rarely mix my food.

ha! i do the same thing! do you eat your meal in any particular order? i usually eat things from food i like the least to best. i'll also ration my food so that if i start getting full on one of the "lesser" foods, i'll move on so i know there'll be room so i can eat all of my favorite thing still.

  4. Yeah, Burton's been quoted as saying the Killing Joke is his favorite comic book (despite, when insulting Kevin Smith, saying that he won't read comic books) but there's nothing of The Killing Joke in the cartoonish, campy Joker that he put into his movie. The Dark Knight and (yes I'll say it again) Return of the Joker are the closest we've gotten to having that Joker on screen.

yeah, he was saying he can't read the panels in order or something so he hated comics. excuses, excuses. in batman, if the campy joker is toned down from the original campier script like burton says it was, then jesus christ. i guess it was a more fitting joker for an 80s movie with a prince soundtrack and jack attack. i can't see heath's joker fitting well in burton's batman and vice versa.

i think it was smart for nolan not to include any backstory for the joker in this one too. it makes him that much scarier because there doesn't seem to be a clear descent into his current state.

now that you guys are talking about hamill's joker, i want to see it.

  5. Finally saw it yesterday...some things:

-i don't buy that dent is dead because they spent a lot of time developing his character and it would be a fucking waste of an amazing villian...they just scratched the tip of the iceberg at the end and then that's it? i don't think so. i think they staged a memorial to cover up his late actions and preserve his image as a beacon of hope for the city while throwing him in arkham or whatnot to be used in future storylines.

-yes, heath was fucking awesome. however, instead of feeling awesome after the movie, i was depressed the whole fucking day knowing that there would never be another joker performance from him. i guess if his last fully-completed movie had been brokeback or whatnot, it'd feel like there was closure because the characters were fully explored and the story was essentially self-contained versus this being an ongoing story where he could and most likely would be seen again in future installments, especially given the popularity of the character.

-i caught the cat reference too so i'm hoping it's just a red-herring and not the main villain for the next one. i was actually thinking that the next one would be batman in arkham. i'm not familiar with the graphic novels like a lot of you but wasn't batman put in arkham at some point? or did he go in there on his own? i can't remember who was telling me about that...probably nick. anyway, i think it was what the joker was saying at the end about batman ending up with the rest of them (his enemies) that made me think this is where they're going with the next one, but i could be reading way too much into it. plus, he's already decided to take the blame for harvey's killings which would make him a murdering vigilante in the eye of the public, no?

-gyllenhaal was a bajillion times better than holmes. thank you tom cruise. thank you so much.

-i fucking love eckhart and his portrayal of dent. i actually found myself dreading the development of his character because i didn't want him to become two-face. and i can understand his complete and rapid turn into two-face at the end. it's far more difficult to be an idealist, in my opinion, because they see the world as it should be, not as it is, so it's easier for them to be enormously affected by such a horrible event, whereas a realist may be just as upset but view it as another one of life's tragedies, grieve, and move on. especially, given the lengths dent went to rid the city of corruption only to have it exist anyway. he starts seeing the world as randomly violent, and through it, becomes a realist, albeit a vengeful one. to me, batman has to be a realist but highly admires idealism which is why he tries so hard to protect dent's reputation, sacrificing his own in the process. again, i think eckhart was a great choice. i've been telling nick for a while now that he would make an awesome rick if they ever made a walking dead tv series/movie/etc.

-i think bale did a great job so to be outshined by the supporting cast just demonstrates the high quality of the casting. there's no shame in that.

-i forget who said this on this thread but i had just read something a little earlier today on wikipedia saying that tim burton's batman was influenced by the killing joke. he even had the script rewritten because he felt the first version was too campy. so nolan's not the only director to have the source material influence the product.

the end. some of that probably didn't need to be spoilered but just in case.

  6. you know, i keep forgeting that this season only had like 10 episodes. what a shame.

OK, so last night i finally figured out that nick, kertins, and i had fucking missed the last 4-5 episodes of season 3 because we had thought the season ended with the serial killer episode (i think) for whatever reason (probably since we'd already seen it online and assumed they were repeating episodes already). i figured something was up when jax put up his current avatar and i didn't remember seeing that scene in the show. i feel like i've just found $100 in the pocket of a dirty and unscrupulous pair of jeans.

  7. i hadn't read the mist so i thought that's how the original story ended since it was so very king-esque.

i really disagree with apt pupil being a good adaptation. i thought it was complete shit which really pissed me off since the story was so well done. with that being said, different seasons was awesome source material (except for "the breathing method," which was really, uh, unadaptable-ish). knocking 2 out of 3 out of the park isn't bad at all.
