  1. Had to add this one to the wierd comic covers:

True, we already know Punisher is a dick but...

    archpun.jpg

Edit: Thanks for the link in the one below Jont, it still didn't allow a direct view, friggen non linking sites, so I just dumped it on my photobucket.

Gah everytime I see this though, it's creepy, especially after the MAX run of Punisher, I just see Betty and Veronica comparing Archie and Punisher's dick sizes and Frank shooting Reggie in the head for selling drugs.

  2. I'm a picky guy, I can pick out some slight complaints if I really have to. Like, let's see, not even a single scrap of information about Blue Sun or the "hands of blue" guys? Caving in and putting sound in space? Nothing about Book's deep dark secret? (though I'm figuring he used to be an Operative, now) And there were many times where it started leaning pretty far away from its original Western sensibilities and deep into Star Trek territory. But I'm just reaching now. All in all it was a great movie, great science fiction. If there's any justice in this world, Serenity should be the beginning of the next Star Wars-type franchise.

Well, the sound in space was actually in upper atmo, look at where the ships were in relation to the planet, sound owuld still travel at that point ( though a lot more muted than in the movie) if you noticed that was the only place where there was sound. So, I didn't think it was a cop out.

As for sequels, we need to get a bunch of people to see the film again this weekend. The opening wasn't particularly strong, (only $10m) and another bad weekend could tank the whole damn thing.

So fuck Wallace and Gromit, and see this again.

  3. Yep pretty damn amazing, thought it ran a wee bit into exopsition territory, early on, but once things kick into high gear the movie doesn't stop, you're kinda, I dunno, numb at the end. there is just so much that happens. Also, takes for last night were pretty decent, Serenity came in 2nd to flight plan by about 1/2 a million dollars, Not bad considering Flightplan is on over 1,000 more screens.

Still, interesting to see, personally I think that most people who aren't fans of the show will dig it, some of the people I saw it with last night, well, actually one, didn't seem to like it at all. Then again, Firefly was very much, ya love it, or ya hate it. So, yeah. Then again she was never a sci-fi person.

  4. I'm good for it, also possibly up for seeing it twice on friday with a couple of groups if need be, though I think gunsmith may kill me if I don't see it with him. So let's try to figure times for friday if that will work. Hehe, I love rereading this thread and watching as people get converted.

  5. Well, Glad ya enjoyed it Nick. Told ya it rocked. That scene in Ariel waws one of the most badass scenes of all goddamn time. You do NOT fuck with Mal. Ever.

I also liked most of the Series, Our Mrs. Reynolds and Jaynestown being the funniest, Ariel and War Stories being just mazing overall, and hell Heart of Gold for being a western.

Still, you have to love a series where even the weaker episodes are still DAMN good. So, on that topic what was everyone's favorite episode?

Mine would probably be Out of Gas, just an amazing ep, love funky orders in storytelling, and finding out how Mal met everyone was great.

  6. Yeah, use MAME, the ROM isn't too hard to find tryEmuAsylum

Don't count on beating it though, the game is a bitch and a half and it only lets you continue 3 times, that is a new sense of evil I tell ya. Probably the hardest 'vania ever.

I'd also HIGHLY recommend Dracula X for the PC-Engine/Turbografix CD-ROM, it's also not too hard to track down and it is just friggen awesome. You can really see some of the stuff they did in later games get its start with Drac X, probably the best of the traditional style games.

  7. ok, best emu's for their prospective platforms IMO.

NES: FCE Ultra is all the rage plays damn near anyhting including Castlevania 3.

Genesis: I use Kega Fusion, it supports just about every old sega system known to main including Sega CD and 32x.

SNES: Tough call, SNES9X is keen, but I always preferred Zsnes, just works nicer.

Turbografix/CD: Well, you have two options Magic Engine which is the shit, or Yame which is also the shit. Magic Engine only does TG-16 stuff, while Yame also does some nintendo systems. Still Yame is free while Magic Engine is not. There should be an english version of Yame somewhere at : Retro ISO Gaming Guild. Now you can play all the old Turbo-CDs you missed out on.

Neo-Geo: Lotsa chouces though I would stick wiht either NeoRageX or Kawaks, several versions of MAME also support Neo-Geo.

You can get all of these at Zophar's Domain. Badass site. For ROMs I go to EmuAsylum

As far as pads, Radio Shack oddly enough has some good cheap ones, I picked one up for $20 the other day, dual analog.

  8. Well, he has more faith now that he saw that video link. Thing is, you first see that thing and you just go WTF??? I think that is has a lot of potential and I'm more intrigued by it that I have been for a nintendo product for a long time.

    We'll see what'll happen.

  9. jesus, george, i didnt know you were that big a fan...that's cool. I didnt even know Super was a remake of part 1 (which was way harder).

Yeah, I just know a lot about em, played most of em too. Lemme also mention that Bloodlines kicked major butt.

Was Aria the same engine as SOTN? Cause i loved that one, too. I always wondered what the hype was about Dracula X since the SNES one wasnt so hot...not Castlevania 64 bad, but not great.

Aria, Harmony and Dawn all are very similar to Symphony, Aria especially was great because it really got a lot of things spot on. None of them are quite as good as Symphony but Aria is damn close.

    1) which arcade game? you mean part 1?

There was an Arcade game called Haunted Castle (Akumajou Dracula in Japan, same title as all the others) it was tough as balls but had pretty nice graphics for the time, and you could use more than just a whip. I believe the plot was that Dracula kidnapped your bride or some shit. The music rocked too.

This game was really rare, I think the only time I played it in the Arcades was at a K-Mart in North Miami when I was like 10 or so. You can play it with MAME nowadays.

There was a Playchoice 10 version of Castlevania 1 too, but it was the same game as the NES one.

) Why was Richter badass? I always went with Simon or Trevor...

Richter was the man, not only did he get a ton of friggen awesome moves in SoTN, he was just friggen awesome in Rondo of Blood. He didn't have Simon's sometimes ability to whip in any direction, but he had hte item crashes which were friggen cool as shit.

Not to mention anyone who can square off ewith the Grim Reaper while running across moving carriage AND horses is tops in my book.

  10. Looks like there is another one incoming, loved the first 2, the third I didn't play much. The fourth I heard blew, but hey, the fifth looks interesting.

    From Gamespot:

Konami is developing Suikoden V for the PlayStation 2, according to the latest issue of Shonen Jump magazine. No release date has been set yet, but development seems to be going well, and the game will be playable at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show September 16-18.

Suikoden V takes place in the Falena Queendom, and like previous installments, the player will recruit 108 non-player characters on his or her voyage. The player's objective in Suikoden V will be to collect pieces of the "Star of Destiny," which are scattered throughout the game.

The player takes the role of the Falena Queendom's prince, who leads a peaceful life until he is caught in an incident, which begins his adventure. An illustration in the magazine shows the prince having silver hair and a slim physique, despite being a physical fighter with a three-section staff. The magazine also revealed two other characters: Ashtert Falenas, the ruler of the Falena Queendom, who has silver hair like her son, and Leion, a dark-haired female swordfighter who works as the prince's bodyguard.

You can see a 10 minute trailer on Gamespot. Looks alright, and hey VOICE, but I'm a little annoyed in that it looks like the main character is mute again. GAH why won't that cliche DIE?

  11. BTW that new Castlevania is hitting Xbox as well.

Just to set the record straight, there are 3 gameboy games, the last one starred Sonia Belmost and featured the first Belmont/Dracula fight, and was pretty cool in that it hinted that Alucard fathered a kid with her which would make Trevor (or his gay Japanese name RALPH C.) Belmont and all the rest descendents of Dracula. Kinda an interesting spin on things.

Circle of the Moon didn't follow Alucard, but it did follow some Vampire Hunters, dunno if they were Belmont Descendents or not, but they probably were. The cool thing is there is a pretty decent storyline and there are traditions followed.

For example in every game that takes place after Symphony, the Belmonts are apparently gone, somehow the bloodline split off into some other names. The Schieder's and the Morrises in particular (in fact the main character of bloodlines was Quincy Morris' son, yeah the guy from the original Dracula novel is a Belmont.)

Other fun facts, Alucard fathered another family line that showed up in the genesis game too. The LeCardes, Eric Lecarde uses a spear thingie that Alucard can get in the Saturn version of Symphony, and it's called the Alucard Spear.

Best game? Tough choice, Super was awesome, but really easy, Dracula X for the PC Engine was tops for a while (the SNES one blew), but Symphony has got to be tops, hell you play as Alucard, but after you beat the game you can play the wholoe thing as Richter, who has to be the most badass Belmont of all time. Hell I remember importing the game back in highschool and using the double-swap trick to play it. It had a bug that fucked me for a while, but still great. Playing the US one is great too as, hey, ENGLISH, but the voice acting was atrocious.

Just a note Symphony is the direct Sequel to Dracula X, they are considered in the same series, and I believe that Aria of Sorrow is the next game in line, and it's badass, almost as good as Symphony, but not quite, I still have high hopes for the Nintendo DS one though. Dracula X was also the game that started the musical refrences in the titles, it's full name was Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo or Demon Castle Dracula X: Rondo of Blood.

I always say it's a shame that Rondo never came out here, as it was just bloody amazing, and hey it was the first storyline advancement for the series since Castlevania 3 (IV was a remake of part 1.)

I think the Castlevania games that are missing on this list are:

    The Castlevania Adventure(GB)

    Castlevania Adventure II: Belmont's Revenge(GB)

    Castlevania Legends(GB)

    Castlevana Chronicles(PSX)

Castlevania : Harmony of Dissonance (GBA)

not going to mention the Arcade or MSX games.

One last note, it seems that the Japanese titles as a whole are a lot cooler, some examples:

Aria of Sorrow = Minuet of Dawn (Ok, not that great.)

Symphony of the Night = Nocturne in the Moonlight

Harmony of Dissonance = Concierto of the Midnight Sun

    Castlevania 64 = "" Apocalypse

Castlevania Legends = Dark Night Prelude

Dawn of Sorrow = Crucifix of the Blue Moon

oddly enough Lament of Innocence was called Castlevania in Japan the first time that title had ever been used for one of the games. Seems like titling something Demon Castle Dracula, when he isn't in the game would be kinda tough.

Wow the random amount of knowledge I have on this series frightens even me.

  12. I appreciate the want to keep things revolutionary, but it looks like Miyamoto may have seriously made a booboo on this one. Getting third parties to support this thing is going to be one hell of an uphill batte, not to mention, am I the only who sees this controller flying out of people's hands when they are swinging their swords in game or what have you?

DIE GANNON DIE!!!! *Fling* *crash* "Dude, I think you killed the TV."

Still I think there are some interesting possibilities, but I think this announcement has crushed gunsmith's soul. He is a hardcore nintendite, but after the controller announcement he's seeming well, listless and dead inside.

Also curious how you are supposed to play old games with this thing, because it looks like it'd be tough for anything other than NES games.

Edit: Just saw the video, looks interesting, though I still see that thing flying out of people's hands, even more so now. if anyone can make it work it's nintendo, though again, third part support is going to be a bitch and a half. I understand the idea a bit better now, but how this plays in the market is going to be the big question.

  13. Taken from gamesarefun.com

These aren't quite scans if you couldn't already tell, but they'll have to do until better versions come along. First some details on Xenosaga III: Thus Spoke Zaratharus:

    · The series will be concluded with this title

    · The same cast from previous titles returns

    · A new character illustrator will be providing the art, as you can see from the pictures

    · The plot takes place one year after Xenosaga II

    · Zohar Emulators will make a return

    · Mech battles will have more mechs, more attacks, and better looking attacks

    · There will be a dialogue tree system for talking to people on the field screen

    · There will be more ES units

    01.jpg

    02.jpg

Xenosaga I + II, for the Nintendo DS info:

    · If you can't tell from the screenshots, the title appears to be largely 2D

    · The title is apparently being made to prepare people for Xenosaga Episode III.

    · The battle system will be based on Episode I's battle engine with a "PF System" added.

    · Some cutscenes will apparently be recreated using the in-game engine while others will use an FMV format of some kind.

    01.jpg

Looking pretty cool haven't finished Xenosaga 2 yet, but I do enjoy the series, nowhere near as good as Xenogears, but it's hard to top that. Still I like the new character designs as they look more in the vein of Xenogears, and is it me or does Shion get less clothing each game. Personally I love the idea of dialogue trees, I think JRPGs have needed them for quite some time.

The remake looks cute, very Xenogears-ish, so if it plays at all like it it could also be one to pick up.
