I'm sure the fact that this is going to click with the very lucrative Chinese market probably is helping its chances of getting made.

They completely understood the tone they needed to go for.  It had to be over-the-top, it had to be stupid, but it also had to be serious. If they'd played this as a comedy it wouldn't have worked at all, probably the only thing I would've changed is to cut out some of the more jokey scenes with The Rock and George, otherwise they nailed this thing perfectly.

In fairness, the novel Bird Box predates The Quiet Place by a bit but yes, this is totally that movie with a different sense.

That's if they even decide to pick them up, at this point the Netflix universe has pretty much spun off into its own thing and they may want to "retool"

Now we'll see if Punisher and Jessica Jones end up getting those new seasons after all.

Kathy Najimi is kind of the secret strength of pretty much anything she's in, it's a shame she never got pushed as the talent she really is.

There won't be a season 4 and I'm skeptical at this point we're going to see any more Jessica Jones or The Punisher either.  Netflix is cleaning house and I don't think ratings have anything to do with it.

I would buy a ticket for each of those movies opening night just on principle but we both know that to the studios Halloween = Michael Myers and never shall the two be separated.

It's like, I had a golden idea for a reboot of the Friday the 13th series where instead of making it about Jason, make it about Camp Crystal lake.  Something happened there long ago and now the ground is cursed.  Movie 1 is Pamela's killing spree, Movie 2 is Jason back from the dead, then you do something else in the same location.  Maybe a cult, supernatural creatures, zombies, some sort of redneck torture family.  Use the location because that can always be fresh.  And if you follow the series it's so obviously what they were trying to do every movie.  They even successfully managed to kill Jason and have him gone for a full movie but they never manged to make Tommy Jarvis the killer even though they foreshadowed it 3 seperate times, they tried to bring Pamela back the same way they brought back Jason but the best we got was Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X as twists on the formula and they barely broke the format.

On that note I actually did think of a way this could continue with the current mythology without bringing Michael back.  Laurie, now robbed of her driving purpose for the last 40 years, is going around the country looking for the next Michael Myers.  It happened once so it could happen again, right?  So she finds someone who she thinks fits the profile and the story plays the story two ways with Laurie serving as the Loomis character in her own story and the Michael character in the suspect's story.  Just really make it look like Laurie has flipped her shit and has taken paranoid delusion to a whole new level, victimizing someone because she's imprinted her attacker on to them only to reveal in the third act that she totally called it.  No Michael, no Shatner mask, something completely different.  Call it Halloween Reborn or something.

There's really no reason why they couldn't go back to the plot of the movie for another season.  They'd have to change the names, obviously, since they used them for the kids in this one but they only vaguely used the elements of the story for the show for it to work.

Or they could just use the The Terror model, base season 1 on a book and then just make whatever they fuck they feel like for further seasons.

I don't much care for Rob Zombie's Halloween.  I appreciate where he was going and what he was doing, and props to him for taking a big swing with it, but he's a bit too hamfisted to do anything interesting with the idea and he managed to explain Michael Myers in such a way that it completely ruined all the mystique of the character without providing any worthwhile explanation of why he is the way he is.  I mean, bullying and an oedipal complex is the best he could do?  Really?

That said, I really enjoyed Halloween 2.  There are still a great many parts of it that are just dumb or bad (the dream sequences, the sad trailer piano cover of Love Hurts) but it delved into its characters in real and meaningful ways.  I like how they showed the fallout where rather than an avenging angel Loomis is a smarmy opportunist, Danielle Harris' character is a mess of post-traumatic stress, and Laurie is spiraling out of control (I think the way that movie handles immediate post-trauma Laurie contrasted with the way this one handles 40 years later post-trauma Laurie is an interesting juxtaposition.)  Ultimately I wish they would have made that third Michael-less movie with Laurie in the mental institution but sadly that fell through.

They absolutely won't do it, because money, but this really should be the last Halloween.  There's a reason Jason Voorhees is more popular than Michael Myers and it's because there's really nowhere you can go with Michael.  The more you use him the less he works, if you expand his mythology it robs him of any quality.  They can't make him talk, they can't give him a more complex motivation, they can't even give him a different mask.  He's the least franchiseable slasher of all and they've covered their bases, so lets get Busta Rhymes in here to karate kick this franchise into the fire.

So are they just going to leave the pirate guy from Castlevania 3 out of this completely?

There's just too much going on too far apart for these to fit together.  Also, is a white dude with magic handguns the hero Harlem needs right now?

I think Netflix is preparong for Marvel to boot up their streaming service by shedding excess IPs.  I don't foresee a Daredevil season 4, we're definitely getting a season 2 of Punisher but beyond that I doubt it, and who's to say with Jessica Jones.  They barely came up with enough ideas for her to have a season 2.

There's already too much going on to incorporate Luke and his bullshit.  Combining the two shows would only be to the detriment of either one.

GodDAMN it.  Fuck you Netflix, you're going to cancel a show just as it's moving into its next big swing?  They'd better find a way to incorporate these characters into another show because that's not an ending.

It's pretty likely he'll make the team, it says only six of them will be the new Guardians so my money's on Star-Lord, Groot, Darkhawk, Nova, Phyla, and Moondragon.  If anybody's going to be bumped it's going to be Darkhawk or Nova due to the fact that they're bastically the same character so that Adam Warlock can be on the team.  Beta-Ray Bill, Silver Surfer, Cosmic Ghost Rider, and Gladiator are far too powerful.

She's Genis Vell's sister and has basically the power set of the original Captain Marvel.  And yes, this team is implausibly even more overpowered than the Annihilators.

Is it really too much to ask somebody to throw Death's Head on the Guardians? Or to bring back Mantis for a bit? Jesus Christ.

While not as problematic as some of the other Disney movies at the time (hoof Hunchback of Notre Dame is uncomfortable and Pocahontas straight up belongs in the vault with Song of the South), there's a lot more casually racist shit in Aladdin than you probably remember.

They're all horror.  Similarly there is Penny Dreadful, The Terror, Hannibal, The Exorcist, Bates Motel, Kolchak the Night Stalker, Stranger Things, Tales From the Crypt, Twin Peaks, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Masters of Horror, Outcast, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Walking Dead, Ash vs. The Evil Dead,  The Outer Limits (the actual science fiction version of The Twilight Zone, still horror), Dead Set, The X-Files, even Game of Thrones has a serious horror bent.  We're in the golden age of horror TV, that reviewer is a bonehead.

Tentatively excited for this.  It was one of the best books at the end of the post-crisis DC and certainly the best book to be killed by the New 52.  

I actually do want the thing I said to be real, though.  I mean we gave the guy who made Eurotrip a Joker movie, is this too much to ask?
