Ottawa Senators Eliminated by the Pittsburgh Penguins 4/24 Boston Bruins (We're in it and we're doing better lately. *knock on wood* We beat Washington today!)FUCK! Eliminated by the Flyers 5/14. FUCK THE FLYERS! Philadelphia Flyers ...and those annoying Habs, the Montreal Canadiens (Fuck the Habs!) And for the West: San Jose Sharks Chicago Blackhawks Vancouver Canucks Eliminated by the Chicago Blackhawks 5/11 Phoenix Coyotes Eliminated by the Detroit Red Wings 4/27 Detroit Red Wings Eliminated in Round 2 by the San Jose Sharks 5/8 Los Angeles Kings (Wouldn't mind if these guys won if Boston can't pull through because their AHL team is just down the road in Manchester) Eliminated by the Vancouver Canucks 4/25. Oh well. Nashville Predators Eliminated by the Chicago Blackhawks 4/26 ...and the Colorado Avalanche Eliminated by the San Jose Sharks 4/24 So who's everyone rooting for? Benz Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 Now updated with poll! My vote for the Bruins is there. Not sure of the schedule, but I'll check on that (I know the Bruins play Thursday) I'll keep the thread updated with eliminations and such. Anything particular you like about the Red Wings, SoF?
Benz Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 The first round of the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs is officially set with matchups, dates and times, the National Hockey League announced Sunday night. Four series begin Wednesday, three more on Thursday and the final opening series starts Friday. Wednesday night's games will feature the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins at home against the Ottawa Senators (7 p.m. ET), while San Jose, the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, hosts the young, upstart Colorado Avalanche (10:30 p.m. ET). Last year's Western Conference champ, Detroit, will travel to face another unexpected playoffs participant, the Phoenix Coyotes, in a second Western series that opens Wednesday (10 p.m. ET). Earlier that day, the Eastern series between the No. 2 seed New Jersey Devils and division rival Philadelphia Flyers begins at the Prudential Center in Newark (7:30 p.m. ET). On Thursday, the Washington Capitals, winners of the League's Presidents' Trophy for most points in the 2009-10 regular season, will open Thursday against the historic Montreal Canadiens franchise (7 p.m. ET). Good. Those obnoxious too-good-to-speak-english-we're-better-than-you-because-we-speak-french fuckers will get bumped off early! Boston travels to Northeast Division winner Buffalo in the other Eastern Conference series that drops the first puck Thursday (7 p.m. ET). We have a chance Out West, Vancouver and Art Ross Trophy winner Henrik Sedin (112 points) welcome the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday (10 p.m. ET). The final series begins Friday when the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, the Chicago Blackhawks, host division rival Nashville (8:30 p.m. ET) Only one of eight first round series matchups were decided going into Sunday's games. All four Western series fell into place once the Red Wings' Brad Stuart scored an overtime winner in Chicago, but the Eastern Conference puzzle didn't finalize until New Jersey beat the Sabres, 2-1, to secure second seed in the Eastern Conference. 2010 EASTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS SERIES A #1 vs. #8 Network Thursday, April 15 at Washington, 7:00 p.m. TSN, VERSUS Saturday, April 17 at Washington, 7:00 p.m. TSN, VERSUS Monday, April 19 at Montreal, 7:00 p.m. TSN Wednesday, April 21 at Montreal, 7:00 p.m. TSN *Friday, April 23 at Washington, 7:00 p.m. TSN, VERSUS *Monday, April 26 at Montreal, 7:00 p.m. TSN, VERSUS *Wednesday, April 28 at Washington, TBD TSN SERIES B #2 vs. #7 Network Wednesday, April 14 at New Jersey, 7:30 p.m. TSN Friday, April 16 at New Jersey, 7:30 p.m. TSN Sunday, April 18 at Philadelphia, 6:00 p.m. TSN Tuesday, April 20 at Philadelphia, 7:30 p.m. TSN2 *Thursday, April 22 at New Jersey, 7:00 p.m. TSN *Sunday, April 25 at Philadelphia, TBD TSN *Tuesday, April 27 at New Jersey, 7:30 p.m. TSN SERIES C #3 vs. #6 Network Thursday, April 15 at Buffalo, 7:00 p.m. CBC Saturday, April 17 at Buffalo, 1:00 p.m. NBC, CBC Monday, April 19 at Boston, 7:00 p.m. VERSUS, CBC Wednesday, April 21 at Boston, 7:00 p.m. VERSUS, CBC *Friday, April 23 at Buffalo, 7:00 p.m. CBC *Monday, April 26 at Boston, 7:00 p.m. CBC *Wednesday, April 28 at Buffalo, 7:00 p.m. CBC SERIES D #4 vs. #5 Network Wednesday, April 14 at Pittsburgh, 7:00 p.m. CBC, VERSUS Friday, April 16 at Pittsburgh, 7:00 p.m. CBC, VERSUS Sunday, April 18 at Ottawa, 6:30 p.m. CBC, VERSUS Tuesday, April 20 at Ottawa, 7:00 p.m. CBC, VERSUS *Thursday, April 22 at Pittsburgh, 7:00 p.m. CBC, VERSUS *Saturday, April 24 at Ottawa, 7:00 p.m. CBC, VERSUS *Tuesday, April 27 at Pittsburgh, 7:00 p.m. CBC 2010 WESTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS SERIES E #1 vs. #8 Network Wednesday, April 14 at San Jose, 10:30 p.m. CBC, VERSUS (JIP) Friday, April 16 at San Jose, 10:30 p.m. CBC, VERSUS (JIP) Sunday, April 18 at Colorado, 9:30 p.m. CBC, VERSUS (JIP) Tuesday, April 20 at Colorado, 10:00 p.m. CBC, VERSUS (JIP) *Thursday, April 22 at San Jose, 10:30 p.m. CBC, VERSUS (JIP) *Saturday, April 24 at Colorado, TBD CBC *Monday, April 26 at San Jose, TBD CBC SERIES F #2 vs. #7 Network Friday, April 16 at Chicago, 8:30 p.m. TSN2, VERSUS (JIP) Sunday, April 18 at Chicago, 8:30 p.m. TSN, VERSUS (JIP) Tuesday, April 20 at Nashville, 9:00 p.m. TSN, VERSUS (JIP) Thursday, April 22 at Nashville, 8:30 p.m. TSN2, VERSUS (JIP) *Saturday, April 24 at Chicago, 3:00 p.m. NBC, TSN *Monday, April 26 at Nashville, TBD TSN *Wednesday, April 28 at Chicago, TBD TSN SERIES G #3 vs. #6 Network Thursday, April 15 at Vancouver, 10:00 p.m. CBC, VERSUS Saturday, April 17 at Vancouver, 10:00 p.m. CBC, VERSUS Monday, April 19 at Los Angeles, 10:00 p.m. CBC, VERSUS Wednesday, April 21 at Los Angeles, 10:00 p.m. CBC, VERSUS *Friday, April 23 at Vancouver, 10:00 p.m. CBC *Sunday, April 25 at Los Angeles, TBD CBC, VERSUS *Tuesday, April 27 at Vancouver, TBD CBC SERIES H #4 vs. #5 Network Wednesday, April 14 at Phoenix, 10:00 p.m. TSN, VERSUS Friday, April 16 at Phoenix, 10:00 p.m. TSN, VERSUS Sunday, April 18 at Detroit, 3:00 p.m. NBC, TSN Tuesday, April 20 at Detroit, 6:30 p.m. TSN *Friday, April 23 at Phoenix, 10:00 p.m. TSN, VERSUS *Sunday, April 25 at Detroit, 2:00 p.m. NBC, TSN *Tuesday, April 27 at Phoenix, TBD TSN - * denotes if necessary - All Times are Eastern Standard Time - (JIP) Game joined in progress
soldier of fortune Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Have just had a soft spot for them since the old NHL Games on the Megadrive (Genesis) when they had Federov, Chelios, Yzerman, Robitaille. Great team. I've always followed their results since, even watch their games on a sports channel over here.
Benz Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 vs. Game 1 - Senators beat the Penguins 5-4! Take that, Cooke! Game 2 - Penguins win over the Senators 2-1. Game 3 - Penguins win again over the Senators 4-2. Bah, if the Penguins win and face Boston, I hope Boston beats the hell out of them (or at the very least out of Cooke and the Penguins lose.) Game 4 - Penguins get a 3rd straight victory over the Senators 7-4. Bleh. Game 5 - Senators win over the Penguins 4-3 in Double Overtime. Game 6 - Penguins win the series with a win over the Senators 4-3 in Overtime. Penguins win the series 4-2, eliminating the Senators and moving on to Round 2. vs. Game 1 - Flyers beat the Devils 2-1 Game 2 - Devils win over the Flyers 5-3 Game 3 - Flyers beat out the Devils 3-2 in OT Game 4 - Flyers win again over the Devils 4-1 Game 5 - Flyers eliminate the Devils 3-0 Flyers win the series 4-1, eliminating the Devils and moving on to Round 2 I'd like to see the Flyers win this one, because if we can beat Buffalo and end up matching against the Flyers, we can beat them. We beat them in the Winter Classic, and again not too long ago. Looks like they did! If the Bruins go up against them in round 2 (assuming we beat the Sabres) we should do good. Ugh, the Penguins won their series. Hopefully they'll fall the next round. Cooke needs a good karma kick to the butt.
Benz Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 vs. Game 1 - Coyotes win over the Red Wings 3-2 Game 2 - Red Wings beat the Coyotes 7-4 (There you go, SoF!) Game 3 - Coyotes won over the Red Wings 4-2 Game 4 - Red Wings answer with a victory over the Coyotes 3-0! Game 5 - Red Wings with another win over the Coyotes 4-1! Game 6 - Coyotes come back with a win over the Red Wings 5-2 Game 7 - Red Wings win the series, beating the Coyotes 6-1 Red Wings win the series 4-3 (Congrats sof!) vs. Game 1 - Avalanche win an upset victory over the Sharks 2-1 Game 2 - Sharks beat Avalanche 6-5 Game 3 - Avalanche win another upset over the Sharks 1-0 in OT Game 4 - Sharks answer back with a win over the Avalanche 2-1 in OT Game 5 - Sharks get another win to lead the series over the Avalanche 5-0 Game 6 - Sharks win the series with a victory over the Avalanche 5-2 Sharks win the series 4-2, eliminating the Avalanche and moving on to Round 2
Benz Posted April 16, 2010 Author Posted April 16, 2010 vs. Bruins suffered a tough loss after playing great in the second period (except allowing that second goal). Some bullshit calls by refs, but that's refs for ya especially in the NHL. Game 1 - Sabres over the Bruins 2-1 Game 2 - Bruins beat the Sabres 5-3! Great game! In the last minute (as sometimes teams do to try to tie the game and take it to OT) the Sabres were down 4-3, and left their net unattended allowing a 6th player on the ice. The Bruins out-maneuvered them ad shot a goal into the empty net. Game 3 - Bruins beat the Sabres again 2-1! Like I said below, awesome game! Very physical, alot of good hits and moves especially by the Bruins! Game 4 - Yet another amazing game! Probably the best game I've seen all season. In the 86 years of the Boston Bruins (and the NHL) this is the 15th longest game the Bruins have played. An amazing display between the two Goalies. Someone give Tukka Rask (Boston's Goalie) a Superman cape. He did a superman-like dive in front of the goal to save the day for Boston! Miller (The Sabre's goalie) was just about bulletproof too. I think he about lost his breath on one of the shots that hit him in the chest. The game went all the way into double overtime, the Bruins coming away with the win 3-2! Game 5 - This was ugly. The Bruins really didn't play their best. They were looking like the Bruins that lost too much this season, not really trying/putting their heart into it, just very sloppy plays. The Sabres goal in the empty net at the end was the final nail in the coffin in this game. I really hope they pick it up next game and do better. Tukka Rask allowed too many goals in the beginning too. Miller was just about bulletproof again. Bruins lost to the Sabres 4-1. Hopefully we get them next time. Game 6 - Other than a couple of slip ups that allowed goals that they shouldn't have, the Bruins played beautifully tonight! They really handled the puck well, played a good physical game and took advantage on the power plays. Well done, boys! Buffalo has been defeated and sent packing! Enjoy golf, Sabres! Bruins win the series 4-2, eliminating the Sabres and moving on to Round 2
Benz Posted April 16, 2010 Author Posted April 16, 2010 vs. Game 1 - Arrghhh... fucking Habs win 3-2 in OT. 2nd most annoying team on the planet. Ah well, The Caps will get them in the end. Still, not a fun day for me sportswise. Game 2 - The Caps beat the Habs 6-5 in OT. That's more like it! Game 3 - The Habs get a deserved ass beating, losing to the Caps 5-1 Game 4 - The Caps win again over the Habs, 6-3. One more Capitals! Game 5 - The Habs win over the Caps 2-1 largely thanks to Halak's 37 saves. Game 6 - The Habs tie the series with a win over the Caps 4-1. Halak has an amazing 53 saves! Game 7 - The Habs take the series beating the Caps 2-1. Halak 41 saves. Habs win the series 4-3
Benz Posted April 16, 2010 Author Posted April 16, 2010 vs. Game 1 - The Canucks beat the Kings 3-2. And yesterday's failure in sports for me is complete. Oh well, it's a new day! Game 2 - The Kings beat the Canucks 3-2 in OT. Game 3 - The Kings win over the Canucks 5-3. Game 4 - The Canucks answer with a 6-4 win over the Kings. Game 5 - The Canucks win again over the Kings 7-2 Game 6 - The Canucks win the series, beating the Kings 4-2 Canucks win the series 4-2, eliminating the Kings and moving on to Round 2
Benz Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 vs. Game 1 - Predators beat the Blackhawks 4-1 in an upset! Game 2 - Blackhawks beat the Predators 2-0 Game 3 - Predators surprisingly respond with a W over the Blackhawks 4-1 Game 4 - Blackhawks answer with a win 3-0 over the Predators Game 5 - Blackhawks get another victory 5-4 over the Predators in OT Game 6 - Blackhawks eliminate the Predators with a win 5-3 Blackhawks win the series 4-2, eliminating the Predators and moving on to Round 2
Benz Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 Some interesting first round series' so far. None of them will sweep. Not even the #1 teams facing the #8 teams. (I'm really amazed at how the Avalanche is doing.) This is what I love about hockey. Every team has their win streaks and their slumps. Yeah, some teams will dominate but not forever. Even the best teams lose to the worst ones. That's what makes it exciting. You never know what's going to happen in any given game. True of any sport, but none moreso than hockey. There's a whole bunch of factors that can change the angle of where the puck's going to go for good or for bad.
soldier of fortune Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Caught the red wings vs phoenix game last night. Phoenix lead 2-1 now, good game, some unbelievable saves by the phoenix tender.
Benz Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 Saw the Bruins game last night and it was awesome! Bruins won and are ahead in the series 2-1! It was very exciting to say the least! A really good hit by Boychuck leveled a guy. The crowd was very into it too!
Benz Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 Here's the highlights for all the Red Wings games so far in the series:
Benz Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 Here's the highlights from game 4 for the Bruins. It was so good, they needed 15 minutes for the highlight reel! The game lasted about 90 minutes!
Benz Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 Looks like some good close games and close series. New Jersey Devils were eliminated by the Flyers last night as I had hoped. Hopefully the Bruins can eliminate the Sabres tonight. I'll be watching. Hope the Red Wings pull ahead for you, sof!
Benz Posted April 24, 2010 Author Posted April 24, 2010 Tough night for the Bruins last night. It was a tough game to watch. They just didn't seem like their playoff selves. They lost 4-1 to the Sabres. Well, hopefully Monday we'll get them. Big fight at the end though. Gaustad's always instigating... I'll post video when it's available for the Bruins game and the Red Wings game. Nice job by the Red Wings, sof!
soldier of fortune Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Thats the experience of being in the playoffs regularly, 3 - 2 up now, and must be favourites to go through
Benz Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 Two more eliminations last night: The Avalanche (was expected) and the Senators.
Benz Posted April 26, 2010 Author Posted April 26, 2010 Last night the LA Kings were eliminated, and the Coyotes forced game 7 with the Red Wings. Bummer. I gotta see what channel will be showing the Bruins game tonight as the Red Sox will be shown on NESN, not the Bruins. I love the Red Sox, don't get me wrong. They're my favorite team. But the Bruins' playoffs is more.. uh.. pressing. I'll be kinda bummed if I don't get to see them tonight. Nevermind. Red Sox are on NESN Plus, Bruins are on NESN. Really looking forward to the game. I hope the Bruins kick the Sabres' ass and get to the next round.
soldier of fortune Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Is the 7th game in Detroit? Is it only you and i who enjoy hockey?
Benz Posted April 26, 2010 Author Posted April 26, 2010 Is the 7th game in Detroit? Is it only you and i who enjoy hockey? Game 7 will go back to Phoenix, hopefully the Red Wings can pull it off even though it's not home ice for them. Aarty likes hockey too, in fact, though I've always kinda rooted for the Bruins, she's the one that really got me into it. The first game I watched live was at Bank Atlantic Center (Home of the Florida Panthers) Panthers vs. Bruins. Other than her, you, and me I'm not sure anyone else is into hockey that much. I don't know too many people even outside of Hondo's that are much into hockey either, but a few more of my friends here in New England are. It's more of a Northern State/Canadian sport than the others that are played here in the US. (though there are some teams down south in the US, they don't seem to have as big of a following as say the New York Rangers (shudders), the Boston Bruins, the Buffalo Sabres, the Detroit Red Wings, The Vancouver Canucks, etc. But anyhow, we like it. Can't wait to see tonight's game.
Benz Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 Awesome game tonight! Except a couple slip ups where they allowed goals that shouldn't have gone in, the Bruins played perfectly! Absolutely beautiful! The Bruins are really coming alive in the playoffs when we need it most! (I still owe you, sof, the previous game's highlights and the Red Wings, I'll post up tomorrow.) Interestingly, the Canadiens won, forcing game 7 against the Washington Capitals. If the Canadiens win, we'll have home ice advantage against our next opponents. If Washington wins, we won't have home ice advantage. We'll see what happens. I also like what Jack Edwards, one of the announcers said when we won: "Snowball 1, Hell 0"
Benz Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 Here's those Vids: Bruins Game 5 Red Wings Game 5 Red Wings Game 6 Bruins Game 6
