Maldron
Instead of being negative, which I really want to be, I will instead say this. The Third Person Shooter, as a genre, has had infinitely more variants in gameplay style than the first person shooter since its inception. They put forward new ideas, new gimmicks, and new gameplay more than any genre out there right now. Whether it's the jetpack in Dark Void, cover shooting, the destructible environments in Red Faction: Guerilla, this body recollecting thing, or the strategic dismemberment in Dead Space. The third person shooter, despite being a herpes on the genitals of gaming, is at least variable in its symptoms.
