Guest Yahve
Beware of being decapitated by your trusty surf comp.
The NZA
So, does that mean not to expect any drives faster than 52x?
Reverend Jax
Manufactures should just add more lasers, so you can read of multiple parts of the cd/dvd at the same time.
Guest Yahve
Sure, now lets all just have toasters in our homes that melt down when we are sleeping. Who needs to smoke in bed when we have a CD laser reactor in our room ! BOOM *polar ice caps begin melting*
Reverend Jax
That's foolishness. The lasers wouldn't heat up the drive, and the more lasers you add, the slower the disc can spin and still recover the same amount of information. The NZA
More lasers, more shit to fall apart before a slow process of entropy. Oughta be another way...
Reverend Jax
We should be making processor with less transitors that can preform fewer operations per second, cause that would be better.
The NZA
Now you got the idea. But why not just not make them at all?
Guest Yahve
Dude, I read up on this neat thingamabober. Called a "Punch-Card Reader" It doesnt need ANY transistors... It's reeaaaallly slow. AND None of them freakin star-wars Lasers running about the house. Them lasers ya know, they are the DEVIL !
TopDawg540
The multiple laser Idea may work but it may cause some issues as far as compatability with existing Powersupplies You've have to upgrade your supply/Case (if attached) with one that has enough power output fo a second laser, then make sure that same power supply is still compatible with verything else. Be more trouble than its worth. Really I dont see WHY we need a faster access speed that 52x I don't belive theres many loading problems at that speed and even if so Install more of the program to the HD and you can bypass that. Reverend Jax
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the power necesary to both power the laser and move it up and down the radius of the disc is minimal next to the power necesary to spin a disc really fast, isn't it? And even if it's not, power supplies are cheap, and so you would only ship them with new machines. The industry hasn't seemed to hav emuch problem with process not being backwards compadible hardward wise.
TopDawg540
Well, point there. I wonder how feasible it would be to add a second reader so that each side would only have half the work, Coordination and Timing issues would be interesting. Reverend Jax
Yeah, but certainly pausible. One laser on one side of the drive, one on the other. The disc spins and each gets it's own information. If you ask for a file, one laser gets half of it wile the other gets the other half. I couldn't build one, but a hardware company could. The NZA
I couldn't build one, but a hardware company could. Jesus, you gonna rely on big corporations for everything? Fuckin A man, read a book! At least then you'll know why lazers are bad for you.
Reverend Jax
"lazers" aren't bad for you, it's just electromagnetic waves. It's like light.
