Id say they focused on the WRONG people. I like the science folks just trying to give Zilla powerup juice.

This is exactly what I said to Nick!!

    Spoiler

When that Japanese woman was talking about her family’s three generations of work and kaiju study I was like WHY ARENT WE SEEING MORE OF THIS?! I’d watch a whole movie on just her family.

But yeah, didn’t care about the weird American family. They were just filler but the scenes with the monsters were more than worth the price of admission for me. I loved the fights!

  2. @The NZA and I have been watching Parks and Rec while we eat dinner most nights. I’ve seen it but it’s his first time! I forgot how much I love this show. It’s not always full of belly laughs but it’s just so...pleasant. And Leslie is such an awesome character, I love re-watching her story. He doesn’t know anyone who joins the show in later seasons so I’m excited to see him experience certain characters!

On my own, I binged Dead to Me and loved it even though the story is like soap opera ludicrous. It’s just awesome to see Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini doing good work again!

I tried watching The Society because the premise was so interesting (and felt Twilight Zone-y) but I gave up after two episodes. I just didn’t care much about the characters.

I need some good summer binge shows!

    1. Pattinson has been using his post-Twilight visibility to really do some interesting things as an actor...

This. Also, so has Kristin Stewart but that's a conversation for another thread!

But yeah, Pattinson's been crushing the indie scene. He even got some Oscar buzz for his role in Good Time. This article sheds some light on his post-Twilight career. Has this been officially confirmed because every headline I'm seeing is different. I'd honestly prefer him to Nicholas Hoult. I'm interested to see what he does with it!

So I'm almost two years late to this game, but I signed up for a free trial of CBS just to watch this series.

I'm not loving it. It doesn't feel like Stark Trek. To be honest...it doesn't feel much like anything. It got very serious, very soon and I'm not really feeling the characters. It seems as if they're trying to convince us of too much too soon. That being said, I'm not hating it either. I guess I haven't formed an opinion either way. But, I'll keep watching. At least until the free trial is over.

Gotta love free trials! I did a trial of HBO on Hulu just to catch that MJ doc. Just don't forget to cancel!

so it'll be pricy but worth it, you can go to like a hobby lobby or michaels or wherever and get custom frames. I've been considering it for my Infinity Gauntlet promo poster from '91 because it's a strange size.

Please never go to Hobby Lobby.

  6. Spoiler

It was also kinda fucked up that they have this big funeral for Tony but nothing for Natasha. I mean, there was no keepsake of hers on those floating flowers, were there? No reason to believe it was some kind of dual ceremony? Just seemed like she died and was promptly forgotten. That was cold!

Came back to say: I googled it and the writers apparently said her not getting a funeral was "partly because Tony’s this massive public figure and she’s been a cipher the whole time." Okay...but it wasn't a public funeral. It was a backyard ceremony with their closest friends and family who all knew Natasha. I call bullshit.

  7. This was really great. There was only a stretch in the middle-ish...

    Spoiler

when they split up in teams to find the stones

...that I was like "okay, how long are we gonna be doing this?" and kinda checked the clock a bit because it dragged. But it picked right back up after that and had such a satisfying ending. I'm so glad I managed to avoid some pretty huge spoilers!

  8. Definitely watching this! I love love LOVE the Addamses and welcome a new version after all this time. Not 100% sold on Charlize's Morticia voice yet but Oscar Isaac's Gomez sounds so much like Raul Julia (esp that laugh!), it makes me sad but also really happy. I LOVE Wednesday's noose braids. So happy to see Lurch and Thing too! I really hope this is awesome!

I'm here for all of it. @The NZA, opening night? It comes out for Halloween!! I'll wear my Wednesday dress!

Didn't daddy doppelganger die by getting chopped up by the boat motor? I got the sense that was brutal enough where he wasn't coming back.

Also this article gave me a lot to think about. I didn't think the ending was "open-ended" but rather there was a lot left open to interpretation along the way. The ending felt pretty satisfying! I liked this movie a lot. It's definitely one that sticks with you.

  10. NZA and I caught this last night. It's a really fun movie, just fun enough to be enjoyable despite glaring, eye-roll inducing, contrived plot points. I think it was helped by a likeable cast- Zachary Levi and Jack Dylan Grazer (who looked so familiar and I'm JUST NOW realizing was in Stephen King's It). They're both really charismatic and easily carry a simple origin story. Was hard to take the villain seriously because he looked like an evil Stanley Tucci, but even still, it was a fun/funny ride and worth seeing in theaters.

  11. My jet-lagged brain can't really put a finger on why I didn't like the trailer. It just seemed a little heavy-handed maybe? Not sure, but I still really want to see the movie. Joker is my favorite character of all time and after Leto's take,  I'm ready for something different. Something hopefully much better!

But how do ye differentiate between these and buttons on a shirt?

That’s a good question and I’m trying to think of a time it’s come up but I’ve rarely gotten them confused. I guess we just get it based on the context!

But yes, I do have a button/badge collection! I never meant to start collecting these but I do pick them up at specialty stores, get them at political events or on my travels!

Some cool pieces there. Do you collect badges as well, or just enamel pins?

Thanks! Do you mean badges like patches that are ironed or sewn on? I have a couple but I don’t collect them! I’m all about the enamel pins!
