  1. Both

I'm hoping to find the PS3 soon for your bad self and the 360 should be going on sale soon due to the upcoming holidays.

Timbo is selling an Elite IIRC, for a pretty decent price.

  2. I'd love to write it.

Remember that a lot of it was differences in culture and not understanding just how the other market worked. Japan had a handle, somewhat, on Japan. But the execs over there didn't know SHIT about how the US worked. The US guys could sell shit over here, but had trouble dealing with the suits back in the orient. It ended up as a clusterfuck.

  3. Well, all three did contribute to the fall of Sega, but honestly it had a LOT more to do with a Japanese branch that couldn't communicate well with the American branch and vice versa. Sega was at the best of times a clusterfuck of misjudging markets and corporate infighting.

  4. Okay I admit messing up with the Quake thing. I hadn't played the game in ages and didn't remember anything terribly special about it (though in 1998 when I last played it that shit was still practically top of the line) As for the online multiplayer I echo your comment on Half-Life's story. It wasn't better, it was just more popular. I remember having tons of fun playing multiplayer on Rise of the Triad and Unreal Tournament, I remember cursing aloud whilst people bunny-hopped about the screen in Quake (granted I came in on the tail end of that one which is kind of like coming in on Counter Strike now)

Yeah, but it was the first major game that also allowed easy internet play. Of course at the time, easy play meant looking online for a list of servers and typing their IPs in by hand, but it was hella easier than trying to call a BBS or do DWANGo or shit like that. Quakeworld did it much better, adn still has one of the best network code I have ever seen. Shit played smooth with 16 players on a modem. Props.

I doubt I had more fun in a multiplayer FPS as I did in Duke 3D though.

And yeah I didn't mean to downplay System Shock 2's storyline (System Shock 1 was kinda meh) but the game was still pretty sparse. Half-Life gave me story (true, it wasn't the best but maybe I just liked it so much cause I'm a fan of the story it was based on), innovative game play, the best AI I have seen (can't speak for Call of Duty but I know I've never had an enemy in Halo pick up a grenade and throw it back at me or spread out in a flank attack pattern. Sure they dodge bullets a whole lot better than Imps and Pinky Demons but when it all comes down to it they still pretty much run at you guns blazing)

Really? Outside of the grenade throwing, shit like that happens ALL THE TIME. The Elites are some evil motherfuckers, they go for cover fuck with you and shit like that, by Halo 3 they had pack mentality, and other crazy shit like that. CoD I wasn't singling out for the AI, but more for the first game to really capture the feeling of being in an actual War. HL1 did have AWESOME AI though, I was disappointed in HL2s AI because it was nowhere near as good.

Also I guess I just don't see the magic in 150 racist 12-year-olds as apposed to the allotted 8-10. I have a hard enough time finding 4 people online that aren't douchebags. And Planetside while innovative isn't so much good, to butcher a Yahzee quote it alienates fans of both FPS and MMO genres.

A good huge game can be a blast, you just need a team that can work well together.

  5. Really the only shooter Milestones are:

Wolfenstein 3D - Practically invented it

Doom - More variety of enemies, and the ability to jump/fall

    Duke Nukem 3D - 3D

    Half-Life - Deep involved Storyline

Unreal Tournament - Multiplayer (Goldeneye and Quake enthusiasts can suck my left and right nut respectively, Unreal did it better)

    Rainbow Six - Squad Based

Quake, Heretic, and Hexen were just improvements on the Doom game engine in much the same way as Blood and Shadow Warrior were improvements on the Duke Nukem 3D engine.

Whoa there, you need to learn your history young one. While Heretic and Hexen were indeed imporvements over the Doom Engine, Quake was the first major Fully 3D FPS. It was a completely different engine. Also Duke Nukem 3d, as awesome as it was only a little more advanced than the Doom engine. In fact the most advanced 3d engine until Quake was the engine used by System Shock and Ultima Underworld. The environments in those games were actually completely 3d, something that the Doom Engine could never pull off, and the Build engine could not achieve until its Shadow Warrior version.

Golden Eye is one of the most over-rated games of all time (Yes, multi-player is fun but Unreal Tournament did it a whole lot better, learn to accept this)

Agreed, though I think you are ignoring what QuakeWorld and Quake 2 did for PC online gaming. UT added a LOT, and was badass as hell, but it was nowhere near as influential as those early quake builds.

Portal and Metroid Prime have added platforming elements to the genre and System Shock and Bioshock have added RPG elements. I'm still hard pressed to find a better overall package than Half-Life.

Debateable, Half Life 1 and 2 I think have vastly overrated stories, in fact I don't think HL2 REALLY gets compelling until EP2 (story wise.) HL1's story was ok at best. System Shock 1 was doing a deep story in a shooter/RPG long before Half Life did. Half Life was just a LOT more popular.

I also think that you are ignoring some of the major advances that the Halo and Call of Duty franchises have brought to shooters. Halo had unparalleled AI and Outdoor areas, and vehicles that weren't matched at all that generation, and Call of Duty did war better than anyone else. Battlefield 1942 is also deserving of mention for bringing huge multiplayer sessions into vogue, and Planetside deserves mention for being the first MMO shooter.

  6. Jazz group One-ups tore it up at PAX, did a great rendition:

    <embed src="http://blip.tv/play/AcrdWo35ZA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="390" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>

i totally gotta look them up.

also, game's due out over here November 25th!

The One-ups are great, I have two of their albums: The Very Best of Sega, and Xenogears Light. Time and Space: A Tribute to Yasunori Mitsuda is their best, but it is long out of print. Had to DL that one, but if they ever re-release it, that bitch is mine.

  7. Braid and Geomentry Wars 2 have been getting a bunch of playtime lately. I played a bunch of Patapon, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Megaman 2 during the trip up to orlando this weekend. Gotta get back to No More Heroes, and Condemned 2. No More Heroes is interesting, want to see where it goes, I have 2 dudes left I think.

  8. Spent a lot of my childhood playing the 1st one, beat most of the others years later as ROM's (unapologetic "save state" abuse ftw!)

And for your pleasure, I present Oilman: A racist caricature so blatant that you have to laugh.

    thumb_rockman_oilman2.JPG

    Which game was oilman in?

  9. Team ICO is owned by Sony, so I hope to GOD they haven't been lost. As for Vs, I'll believe that one is exclusive when the generation ends and it hasn't come out on 360. Again, not that I care all that much, if it reviews well, I may check it out.

Still Agito 13 and Parastie Eve 3 for the PSP is AWESOME!!!!!

  10. It's a delay, but no more of one than we would have normally gotten, mainly because Square always takes at least a year to translate FFs over to the US anyway. I can't remember any of them that didn't have a LONG fucking localization. So in the year that they are adding a couple of new features and other miscellaneous shit, they will be porting the game from the PC (Crystal Tools) to the 360. God knows how the port will be, but that's how it goes. I'm kinda surprised that MS hasn't gotten them dev kits yet. Pretty crazy.

  11. The concept is similar in as far a

    forest God

. What I meant in saying it was original was that, as you watched the aftermath, you were

not entirely sure Hellboy had done the right thing

. Usually in big action set-pieces like that there is a clear reason and cause for

    destroying a monster

    . Here it was cloudy.

And for the record Prince Mononoke did not even come close to conveying the sense of awe, that Guillermo del Terro achieved in that scene. You can take that to those weird little forest ghosts who shake their head like maracas!

Can't disagree more. I think DelToro clearly failed at just what you said in that scene. I thought it was funny that you had

the elf prince moaning about HB destroying the last of these forest creatures when HE WAS THE ONE WHO PUT THE FUCKIN THING IN THE LINE OF FIRE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Hellboy totally did the right thing. Not to mention that concept wasn't original, it has been a giant monster trope since King Fucking Kong.

And wow REALLY on that last line? I was reminded so much of Mononoke's ending when I saw that scene I could barely get it out of my head. To be fair, DelToro's scene was animated better, CG and all, but it just felt lifeless.

  12. I beat the game and I just don't feel like going back or I just care about finishing it.

I'm looking forward to the tales game and maybe star ocean.

??? 'splainy. I am not quite sure what you mean.

Forgot to ask but how's Lost odyssey?

Fuck AWESOME!!! Great combat system, old school but good gameply, fun characters, great world, AMAZING soundtrack.

    It's a 360 exclusive. You'll hate it.

  13. I may have a 360 but FUCK M$.

You know every time you use the M$ in a serious way my opinion of you drops. Just sayin

I'm also completely confused about what you have said, but whatever. You know some idiots, and becuase of them the 360 sucks. I applaud your ability to answer their fanboy shit with their own.

I know people who 360 had RROD 3-4 times and they swear it's still a great system. Same people went out and got the HD add on when it came out.

Well, technically the RROD doesn't mean it's not a gret gaming system, it's just a damn poorly made one. If you like the games and want to keep playing them, your options are rather limited. Also, re you saying that these people got the 'core' system, because if they did, why are you even bothering talking to them (Oh wait, Panch got a core didn't he....)?

Now the same people were bitching about how the PS3 cost so much but don't want one because of the price but mind you they paid about the same with the add on and they own 3 20gig HD for the 360.

Why would these mythical idiots own 3 20 gig hard drives? I am highly confused about this, there is no REASON to own 3 20 gig hard drives. I'd respond more to this but, it makes no sense at all and I feel that either you are mistaken in what they have, you are talking about people in an insane asylum, or I am misreading your post.

I stop talking to them a while back because I got fed up with their fucking fanboy shit.

because of their fanboy shit? Or because they didn't want to listen to yours?

If you want to hate on MS, fine. They aren't anywhere near perfect, their peripherals are overpriced, they are taking FAR too long to drop their price, their first party studios need to expand, and they charge for online. Not to mention they had a HUGE run of systems that had major quality control issues that are a major concern for people.

But to hate on the system because some other people like it? That's really fucking silly, and I kinda expected more out of you.

About being called "one of them," totally serious. It's a hurtful thing to say.

I never realized that being called an FF7 fanboy was fighting words. I'll have to keep that in mind.
