Benz
Awesome! The Bruins got their day at the White House, a privilege enjoyed by each sport's champs. Tim Thomas skipped though. (The MVP Goalie) The Boston Bruins made a trip to the White House on Monday afternoon to celebrate their Stanley Cup championship. However, the man perhaps most responsible for that Cup title, Tim Thomas, was absent. The defending Vezina Trophy and Conn Smythe winner released a statement on Facebook regarding his absence on Monday evening. It reads in its entirety below. "I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People. This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government. Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL. This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT" Read Bruins president Cam Neely's statement on Thomas' absence by clicking here. My thoughts? I don't really agree with what he did, but it's his right and I have to say bravo for standing up for your beliefs. Tim Thomas is known for liking Glen Beck and such. Would have been nice if he had just sucked it up and had the team's day in the sun/national honor/etc. but I gotta give him credit for standing up for his beliefs. Thoughts? Panch
It's his right, but I don't kow what the big deal is. He wasn't the first (and won't be the last). Shit, he wasn't even the first to do that played for a Boston team! Some notables: Larry Bird. Manny Ramirez (when he was with the Red Sox). Pittsburg Steelers linebacker James Harrison did it TWICE (for two different presidents - Bush and Obama). Micheal Fucking Jordan did it (but there wasn't anythig political about it, he had already been 5 times)!
The NZA
wonder what bird's reason was? maybe Magic Johnson wouldn't let him in. yeah it's his right, but glenn beck is a douche and so are his fans, so there's still that.
Reverend Jax
I think I read that Thomas is the only native American on the Bruins, is that right? So the team that visited the White House was entire made up of foreigners? Typical Obama...always apologizing for America.
