So yeah, Activision's milking the rhythm/music games but at least my genre's gonna be covered, and that controller does look sharp. The soundtrack so far sounds like some interesting mashups, with some interesting names attached:

Over 100 individual songs based on master recordings have been licensed by Activision, composed into over 80 two-song mashup style mixes by both participating internationally-known DJs and an in-house remix team; some mixes will feature the same song as both parts of the mix, as in turntablism.[2] Such mix artists include DJ Shadow, DJ z-Trip, DJ AM and Daft Punk.[20][2][21] Initial industry speculation stated that DJ Tiësto would be involved with the game, but this was eventually denied.[22] Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys was reported to have signed an exclusivity deal with 7 Studios to appear in their game Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, meaning that he would also not appear on DJ Hero.[21]

The individual songs themselves have been pulled from a large number of music genres, including grunge, soul, R&B, techno, hip hop, and house. The mixes listed below have been confirmed to be in the game. Additionally, the songs “The Way You Move” by Outkast, "Hip Hop" by Dead Prez, and Tiesto's "Elements Of Life", and additional songs from 50 Cent, Justice, N.E.R.D., Beck, Blondie and Billy Squier are confirmed to be in the game. There will be a Rihanna/Motörhead mash up. In addition to mixes using individual songs from both Eminem and Jay-Z, including Jay-Z's "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" and "Dirt Off Your Shoulder". Eminem also stated that he will have additional songs included later in the year as downloadable content for the game. Universal Music Group is providing much of the content for the game.

Song 1 title ↓ Artist 1 ↓ Song 2 title ↓ Artist 2 ↓ Mix Artist ↓

"Feel Good Inc." Gorillaz "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" Marvin Gaye by Activision Studio

"Bustin' Loose" Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers "Time of the Season" Zombies The Zombies by DJ Shadow

"Let's Dance" David Bowie "Jack Of Spades" KRS-One by DJ Shadow

"Jayou" Jurassic 5 "Rockit" Herbie Hancock by Activision Studio

"Shout" Tears for Fears "Pjanoo" Eric Prydz Activision Studio

"Hollaback Girl" Gwen Stefani "Give It to Me Baby" Rick James by Harminder Dhanjal (Silent Source)

"All Apologies" Nirvana "Give It to Me Baby" Rick James by DJ Shadow

"Satisfaction" Benny Benassi "Boom Boom Pow" Black Eyed Peas by Harminder Dhanjal (Silent Source)

"Sabotage" Beastie Boys "Monkey Wrench" Foo Fighters by Activision Studio

"My Name Is" Eminem "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" Jay-Z by Activision Studio

so yeah, hopefully they get more Jay-Z, Outkast and some Dead Prez among others. Id be more wary of the mashup angle if it wasnt DJ Shadow on it.

that said, Scratch: The Ultimate DJ has even fewer details, but those include Nas, Dre, Snoop, 2Pac, Biggie, Dialated Peoples, and impressively, Eric B. & Rakim...im gonna need more info as far as full tracklists & controller compatibility before i come to a decision, but anyway, this one's supposedly due out by October.

haha...its konami vs activision, love! or are you just making the point that they're totally ripping them off? cause if so, konami's been saying it (regarding guitar freaks or whatever they did before) for years now...

oh no you di-int

im sayin! the world's more popular band gets a video game in the most popular genre HOW EXCITING

WHAT-1.gif

meanwhile, the dickholes at activision are so oversaturating the market with music games that, years later, hip-hop is finally being even acknowledged. i really expected them to phone this one in, but they got some solid DJs listed and picked a handful of modern shit with some real classics (from varying genres, even - rick james over eric b & rakim? yes please) mixed in. if one right, this could be really cool....im not sure how the turntables vs guitar'll fare, but again, its interesting to see them trying it.

in conclusion: poo on your yellow submarines.

we both know its gonna make a mint anyway.

If you have the urge to spend even more than $120 for DJ Hero, we've got great news. When the game launches, you'll have the option of picking up the "Renegade Edition" of the game, which includes a special turntable, a hardshell case that converts into a stand and a two-disc CD set of Jay-Z and Eminem music that features some previously unreleased tracks. Not that this comes as a complete surprise.

...i dont know what just happened, but i think MH is on board.

the VS mode mixes - granted we're hearing exerts - but they dont sound like the game's high points to me. this one threw me off, not enough Gang Starr.

this one went better than i thought it would've, at least.

haha

...

and finally, a good one (unless you're a Daft Punk fan, in which case its likely awesome)

I didn't play myself, but CARLO LUND did. He said it was pretty fun! The shit looks challenging as hell, but not enough to deter me from playing in the near future. There are some class mashups/mixes on it, too!

i dont doubt it...i got to mess with the controller for like a minute, reminded me of the tricky Beatmania one but with more buttons. most people ive talked to who have it say shit isnt easy! cant wait till they start selling the controller separate.

holy shit.

Space Cowboy lost his damn mind and bought the Renegade Edition, and i got to play it last night with Panch at his place...this game is the truth.

Panch is further so he got some fun mixes like Hollaback Girl + Rick James, and Gorrillaz "Feel Good Inc" + Marvin Gaye's "Heard it through the Grapevine" which were just really well done, lotta fun here.

This might be the new Beatmania for me. Im gonna wait till after the holidays when said special ed likely drops in price and see if i can get Sen & Jax to go in on it, shit was so cool.
