Mr. Sexy Hat
Sega has just launched and new games on demand service called PlaySega. Basically you can play perfect emulations of you beloved Mega Drive/Genesis games plus a varity of puzzle, card/casino, quiz, sport and arcade games. Of course you have to pay to play with prices starting at $5.95 USD for one month to $34.95 USD for 12 months. To entice new people to join, Sega is giving a free limited edition PlaySega USB controller to those who sign up to the 3,6 and 12 month plans. (you get free postage is you sign up for 12 months) You can join for free but of course you can't play Mega Drive games which is dissapointing. Some might say this just another attempt from Sega to milk its old franchises and try to make us forget that its been 15 years since they took a dive into obscurity. But having an entire Mega Drive catalogue at your fingertips is only a good thing right? The service is only in its beta stages at the moment but if things take off we could be seeing Master System, Mega CD, Game Gear, 32X, Saturn and Dreamcast games accessable from where ever you can get an internet connection. Hell they might even finish off Sonic Extreme! I can only hope. Another interesting thing is that there is a Sonic 1 level editor, I don't think I have to explain that one. I spent 3 hours last night trying to build the Awesome Zone right now its still leaning towards Fail Zone but its getting there. You can also upload your levels for others to play. So hopefully Sega decides to make level editors for all of its games on the service. The fact in a few months time I could be making my own levels for Streets of Rage 2 just has me jizzing my pants. So if Sega gets thier shit together and makes this worth the money you pay for, PlaySega could be the salvation they have been looking for. The NZA
wait, is it the awesome Saturn USB controller? shit, ive been seeing rumblings of this without knowing what it was about. its a great idea, i personally wont get as much use out of it thank christ for emulators but its a shame XBLA and such will make such a service not available on consoles, at least for this gen anyway. as an aside: not every title needs HD graphics, but man, an integrated account with achievements on these classic titles would just be awesome. i keep saying this. ps Sexhat: can you do a video of Awesome/Fail zone? i wanna see that, as well as the editor. how much better is it than say Sonic 1's debug mode offered? Mr. Sexy Hat
yeah its a replica saturn controller, Ill put up some real pics when mine arrives. There is also Achievements for games but its definately not linked to Xbox Live and PSN. No HD beef up to, just orginal games in thier 16 bit glory! Here is my attempt at a Sonic level. The creator is pretty simple to use its just an drag and drop affair. Alot better than that Debug mode.
The NZA
ah, nice! now i wanna play your level. it reminds me of the the classic sonic ones...people act like old-school sonic was just racing through the levels, but there were more of them that'd make you stop and do platforming in between like that. There is also Achievements for games but its definately not linked to Xbox Live and PSN. details, sir.
Mr. Sexy Hat
I haven't go much in the details department. All I got when I clicked on it was a screen telling me to play game to unlock achievements. So im not sure if its up and running yet or im just too stupid to work it out.
