The NZA
So, this one's about Donnie's sister, apparently, and...wait, what? straight-to-video does not usually bode well.

Reverend Jax
Well, the first Donnie Darko was originally slated to be a direct-to-video release, and when that changed, it only made $4.1 million at the box office (worldwide), but on DVD is sold over $10 million by 2004, before the special edition came out (couldn't find more recent totals). So, I don't think the direct-to-video thing is as worrysome that the original creator of Donnie Darko, Richard Kelly, is not involved. Also, the AV Club (the non-satirical arm of The Onion) gave it an F.
Iambaytor
I am one of those people who still remains unaware of what was so fucking magical about Donnie Darko, all I saw was satire and ham-fisted existentialism. Did I miss something?
