Some plot details from 'The Rock' - who's character heads up a anti-poaching unit out of Rwanda:

"In our story, we have 3 animals (gorilla, crocodile and a wolf) who fall victim to evil genetic editing, rapidly changing every strand of their DNA so they grow, evolve and mutate. Everything becomes amplified...their size, strength, speed, agility...and violent aggression. One of the animals infected, a rare Albino gorilla named, George, is my best friend."

Looks like they ain't takin' this route.

Malin Akerman is the primary villain. She serves as the CEO of the corporation that created the monsters (please...let it be actually be called Scum Labs).

Jake Lacy plays her brother and Naomie Harris plays a geneticist who teams up w/ 'The Rock' to take down the monsters.

Also cast is Joe Manganiello, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a covert agent working for a secret government agency known as OGA - and Marley Shelton, PJ Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald and Breanne Hill.

Directed by Brad Peyton of 'San Andreas' fame - written by Ryan Engle, Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal.

one of my favorite games...but i still don't understand

Rampage fan! Hollaaaa!

Love the Rampage series. Done quite a few bits w/ the material. I think a movie can totally be worked out w/ the premise - but...

...George already being a gorilla...and 'The Rock' on a mission to save his 'best friend'? Mega-'Eh'. The Rampage I know - is a Rampage where the monsters were / are people...victims of an evil corporation (since the sequels).

I'm bummed that they're not gonna use my fan-fiction - but, the notion of seeing that Arcade screen in live-action. WHAAAA!!! I just hope they keep it fun. The tone of the games are cartoonish and...silly. But - pretty sure they ain't gonna.

Need to see more...think I need that money shot where all 3 monsters are hanging off buildings or something.

My brain can't handle sustained Transformers-grade 'splosions as entertainment - and it's looking like it's gonna be taking itself pretty seriously.

Maybe purty 'splosions combined w/ straight up comedy - a giant spoof on the disaster porn genre...like, 'Airplane'-grade silly...crazy newscasts.  I'm feeling this needed to be a comedy.  This feels like Battleship...silly premise / source, taking itself way too serious.  I wanna see more, tho!  Sell me, Rampage!

Sucks they couldn't keep the monsters' colors game-accurate (brown / green / blue)

I get how George could be compared to King Kong - but...it's fucking Rampage.  Get over it.

Feeling less n' less hopeful for my fan-fiction realized.

I think like, how 'The Expendables' brought together a bunch of action-heroes together - I would've liked a ton of hyped action-hero cameos n' them being flattened seconds after their appearance.  Basically, a tone similar to Mars Attacks.  A giant, fun destruction-porn spoof...

So, this was a lot of fun (as I predicted)! Pretty straight forward story (basic, barely there). Some cringe dialogue (but nothing crazy, they played the movie straight). Maybe a pinch of heart. But those monster scenes? A+! While the action and most story elements were really farfetched, who goes into a monster/kaiju movie for fucking realism? Fuck it! Go nuts! Blows Godzilla (97) out of the water (of course). And believe it or not, I think it was less boring than the first Pacific Rim (haven't seen the second one yet). I probably like PR better, but this shit gets right to the point and doesn't let up. It's a turn your brain off and just enjoy the destruction kinda flick.

Nick and I had a rough day and I needed something mindless and fun so I suggested we finally watch this. It was EXACTLY what I needed! Just dumb fun. Panch’s review is spot on (‘cept I hated the first Pacific Rim so this blew it outta the water for me).

Man the third act of this was just a BLAST. It had no right to be as good as it was!

They completely understood the tone they needed to go for.  It had to be over-the-top, it had to be stupid, but it also had to be serious. If they'd played this as a comedy it wouldn't have worked at all, probably the only thing I would've changed is to cut out some of the more jokey scenes with The Rock and George, otherwise they nailed this thing perfectly.
