Kid reaches out for foul ball, signals beginning of the end for Chicago Cubs

This is a hilarious event. If you didn't catch it / not interested in baseball, it will still make you laugh.

Cubs are up 3 - 0 in the 8th inning against the Marlins. They were 5 outs away from getting to the World Series for the first time in 95 years. Mark Prior tosses a pitch, the ball is hit long but into foul territory up against the wall. Moises Alou, of the Cubs, hauls his ass over towards the wall to see if he can catch it... leaps up b/c the ball is heading over the fence (though foul)... reaches out!... AND!... an unlucky Cubs fan reaches out & catches the ball just above Alou's glove. Needless to say Alou has a fit. All the cameras focus in on this little guy wearing a hat & a walkman who inadvertedly signalled the beginning of a major comaback for the Marlins. Same inning, next 5 pitches by Mark Prior were Marlin hits, driving in 7 Marlin runs back to back before the inning ended.

Final score, 8 - 3 Marlins. This poor kid had to be escorted out of the stadium b/c people were trying to kill him. His name & picture has been taken down from most websites to protect his identity.

While im still kinda sad people would take their entertainment far enough to threaten this kid, that has to be some of the funniest shit ive heard in a long ass time, thanks Chiefy. Chicago's not a good place to be tointe, i reckon.

I am infact a fan of baseball. When you hail from Boston, your fathers, brothers, uncles grandfathers mothers aunts, and next door neighbors make sure of two things: No matter where you go, or what you do, when someone asks you what baseball team you like you say "The Boston Red Sox." And who is your arch-nemesis? "The Yankees."

You can imagine how trying it must be.

Now for the first time in anyone's memory there is an opportunity for the two cursed teams of baseball to face one another in a World Series. Personally, I think that's a lot to hope for. I'd love to see the Red Sox get there, but if I can't have that, then I'd love to see the Cubs beat the hell out of the Yanks.

But that's what being cursed is all about, the ball rolling between your legs, blowing it in the play-offs, and inevitably some moron catching that foul ball. I wouldn't have hit the guy or thrown anything at him, but my heart sank when that happened. Apparently this hex ain't over yet.

Ouch! :D

I presume that Tu is probably watching the Yanks/Sox game now. As only a fair weather baseball fan (I do my rooting for the Mets and the Sox, mostly 'cause it pissed off the regulars at the bar I useta go to all the time in Berkeley and ya can't help rooting for the underdogs - damn Manchester U-yankees) I've watched the last few games, but now as the damn game continues into the 11th inning I'm slowly but surely losing interest (hence the posting). The commercials really kills the game. I can hack 'em when I'm in bar or whatever, but sitting at home - UGH.

Uh...just as I was writing guess what happened...Aaron Boone just hit one fuck of a homer.

Looks like the "Curse of The Bambino" lives on...

Damn Yankees...

Pretty fucking spectacular way t'win though. I really wasn't expecting that...

Tahat game was heartbreaking. My sister tells me people were tipping cars over in Boston. It WAS a great game, but the results sucked. I mean even if I weren't a Red Sox fan, I'm sick of seeing the Yanks in the World Series. It's like "Yeah yeah, blah blah blh, Derek Jeter, yee haw." Enough already.

I was listening to Power 96 today while in my friend's car. And there was some commercial or promo being aired by the station about this kid. I don't know if it was really his voice or not, but it was kinda funny. It was the first I had heard about the incident. Anyways, apparently, Power 96 flew this kid down to Miami and he is now in a Penthouse for 3 months with whatever he desires. Some fucking people have all the fucking luck. :D

It's kinda....I guess bad...how everybody is or was out to threaten this kid's life. Kinda reminds you of what happened back in the World Cup some years ago when a guy from Colombia's team scored for the other team by mistake. He caused lotsa people to lose money. And was eventually shot up. :shoot:

He's had several 3 month vacation offers as well as the govenor fo IL offering to place him ont eh witness protection program and his employer (client of ADP) has mentioned they offered him a transfer to another city.

Damn shame that he's actually fearing for his safety. he did what any other fan would have done. He saw a ball flying his way, tracked it through the air amd reached for it. He wasn't looking at the field or paying attention to any plays being made.

Hopefully after the series this will die down and the guy can have his life back.

I live in Chicago and was rooting for the cubbies, and I must admit I was ready to kill the guy at first. But after I cooled down I really felt sorry for him - people were threatening him and pouring beer over him. That is just terrible, shameful behaviour and many Chicagoans were disgusted. Everyone else was reaching out for the ball too, he just happened to be the one who caught it (tho it slipped from his hand and was caught by somebody else I believe) and be singled out. No game or championship is worth someone's life and anyway, it's not like we can go back in time. Oh well, enough about baseball, it's a sore subject at the moment =/
