I think there's to many mid tones in the film stock, something higher contrast like they used in π would have looked better. And also when Millar used black backgrounds it was because he chose not to define the space behind a character to give the foreground elements more impact, in the empty soundstage world of modern movie makeing, the background is black because there's nothing there. Mystic Jont fortells a strange mixture of Dogvill and Dick Tracy. That said it does have Jessica Alba shaking her money maker in leather chaps so it probably is the greatest movie evermade.
