MusicManiac Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Anyone (SB) have an opinion on this one? It seems interesting aside from having the fantastic Sir Anthony in it...
Acalis Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 I definitely recommend renting Secondhand Lions. That movie is FU-NN-EEE!!!
Ganny McVagflaps Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 "The World's Fastest Indian" was ggggggreat. The documentary about the real Burt Munro on the disc was pretty awesome too.
Silent Bob Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Haven't gotten to see World's Fastest Indian yet. But while we're on the subject of newer dvd recommendations.
MusicManiac Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 Saw all of those except, Kiss Kiss. Liked them all except, The Matador could have been better I think, Brosnan was brilliant though... Syriana was exceptional. I thought I was gonna hate it and I loved it. I enjoyed Inside Man as well....alot. I'm gonna rent the World's Fastest Indian.
Silent Bob Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I agree about The Matador, but I still had a good time watching it. Rent Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Seriously, it's my favorite movie on the list.
Ganny McVagflaps Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" was sweet. Can't say I really liked "16 Blocks" though. Was it just me or was the sound off for the first twenty minutes or so?
The NZA Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 shit, i forgot i wanted to see that, its my boy bruce, and the solid snake/math teacher 'stache. inside man was good? really? i never even heard of it.
MusicManiac Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 Youre fucking kidding right? Spike Lee's finest work...well one of anyway.
Silent Bob Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I'm not sure if it's his finest, but certainly his most accessible. It drags a bit at the end and there are some plot twists that are pretty far-fetched when you think about it, but it's still good stuff. Fantastic cast, too. You know you have a great cast when the likes of Willem Dafoe and Christopher Plummer don't bill high enough to make the poster.
Ganny McVagflaps Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 "Inside Man" was great. Spike Lee does a heist flick! Did anyone watch "Find Me Guilty"? Here's a really shitty poster for it: It has nothing but greatness even before you've seen it Directed by Lumet! Co-starring Dinkladge! Vin Diesel has hair! And...and...it's awesome!
MusicManiac Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 True enough, I think it's one of his finest indeed. Right up there with Mookie... .......... Danny Aiello makes me piss myself in that one... " I just killed you're fucking radio !"
Ganny McVagflaps Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I felt many emotions during that flick but can't say that little beauty made me laugh. The Why are there no brothers on the wall part however.... Also Rosie Perez made me want to stroke it. Don't ask me why. It happened in White Men Can't Jump too.
The NZA Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 ive seen uh, do the right thing, jungle fever, 25th hour, parts of "get on the bus" and a few others, nothing ever as good as malcolm x, for me. ill check that one out tho.
MusicManiac Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 25th hour... trash for me... even thoough Ima balls to the wall fan for Ed Norton, the film just didn't like me.
Ganny McVagflaps Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Rooosssaaaarrrrriiiiooooooo! I didn't think it was all that balls either. I loved She Hate Me though and I kinda seem to be alone there....
Silent Bob Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Tsk, I like 25th Hour. I thought it was one of Brian Cox's best performances and the "fuck you" monologue is gold. But I wouldn't put it up there as one of Lee's best. Find Me Guilty is gonna be my next rental, I've been wanting to see that'n.
MusicManiac Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 So SB, any must haves this week? I'm getting the itch for a few new DVD's... also, do you think the Godfather Collection is a steal or what for 29.00?
Silent Bob Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Hell of a steal, it's almost criminal. This week didn't have many good recommendations for new movies (unless you get excited by RV, Hoot or Scary Movie 4) but one classic and a couple great tv shows did come out. Next week's pretty good two, as we get season 2 of House MD, and the dvd debuts of Silent Hill and Poseidon (which I've heard is not good enough to own but maybe worth a cheap rental). There's also a new special edition of the classic Double Indemnity.
MusicManiac Posted September 22, 2006 Author Posted September 22, 2006 Shit... SB what's this alll about? ___________ Here's the new Superman cover art... the Reeve film covers look awful... I wish that they would just put the original movie posters on the fucking boxes
MusicManiac Posted September 22, 2006 Author Posted September 22, 2006 Well, I found this on Wilkipeia.com... what's everyone think? Sleeper Hit or Last ditch effort to cash in on eeve's death? I mean why now? Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut is a 2006 film that is a re-edit of the 1980 film Superman II. It has been officially sanctioned by Warner Bros. and director Richard Donner, and stars Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman, Terence Stamp and Marlon Brando. The cut is being supervised by Donner, Tom Mankiewicz and Michael Thau, an editor who worked with Donner on the 2001 director's cut and restoration of Superman: The Movie. The film will be released on DVD on November 28, 2006 [1]. According to Warner Home Video, the new film will run at 116 minutes. In the UK, this will be included with the Christopher Reeve 8-disc box set scheduled for release the same day all other Superman releases hit shelves. Unlike many “special edition” and “director’s cut” movies released over the years, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut will essentially be a completely new film. It features fifteen minutes of never-before seen scenes of Marlon Brando as Superman's father, Jor-el, new Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder Superman/Lois scenes, newly shot footage with a Christopher Reeve body-double, and a new beginning and ending. The project is being supervised by Superman: The Movie restorationist Michael Thau, in close conjunction with director Richard Donner, who will now be credited as director of the film instead of Richard Lester - the original credited director of Superman II. The film utlizes footage originally shot by Richard Donner during original principal photography from 1977-78, using footage by Richard Lester to fill in spaces that were not shot by Donner I'm interested nonetheless...
MusicManiac Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 ... not as packed as his Poltergeist effort on DVD but a great addition...
