  1. First day back at University and a Philosophy degree. The Lyceum's going to get a few new topics soon!
  2. I've always loved FPSs, but never thought a console could do it properly (where's my mouse!?). Goldeneye and PD changed that and showed how a console pad can work ok - you just have to slow the physics down a bit to reflect the longer aiming times. Now, the PS2 has gone further with the dual-stick control method. For games like Red Faction or Deus Ex, you use one stick to strafe and one to orient your facing. When you get used to it, this system is fantastic. Yay for innovation.
  3. So I bought this yesterday. I've been meaning to for a while anyway, and I was in town picking up an extra pad so me and MLB can duke it out when I saw it fairly cheap. We had a quick go last night, and it does look nice. I'll have to explore the tutorial and stuff when I get a mo.
  4. Well I started reading last night and I'm hooked. There is a lot of detail going on - I love how the story can still develop without any dialogue at all sometimes, and you don't miss it. I really liked the assassination in the river bit, and how you're reminded of important little details (like the victim removing his pistol) later. Good stuff. God help me, each volume is £7.50 (About $12 though I'm sure you all knew the rate). And there's lots of them.
  5. Good call. And 'Century after Century'. Hell, try the whole Remote Part album!
  6. I just bought volume one of this the other day, haven't had a chance to check it out yet but I've heard so much good stuff about it. The comic frames in the books are really tiny, which is a little annoying, but I suppose it means they cram lots into each volume.
  7. Online gaming is definately fun when the people you're playing with are reasonably civilised and pleasant. I used to play Quake 1 for a clan and they had a private clan server where everybody was friendly - made the games much more enjoyable. But I've tried Diablo and it's sequel, Starcraft, and a bunch of FPS games and they are all ruined by fuckwits who take grim pleasure in pissing people off. Counterstrike seems one exception - the fuckwits are fewer than most games, but they're there. I was going to buy a new computer this year, mostly for new online games like Neverwinter Nights, but then I realised I just couldn't be bothered. The price was partly a factor, but I also like knowing that the game I buy WILL work - no patches, no fiddling with my computer, just plain and simple. I've gone back to my console roots and bought a PS2, and it really is the dog's. Just use my computer for word processing and stuff now, and the odd single player strategy game.
  8. I'm back at University now. Yeah! Only bad thing is a 40 minute walk if I want to use the net.
  9. Hey MLB, Will definately be there at Idlewild with you, thought they were pretty good before but the new album blew me away! Also, Doves and The Coral are playing Rock City on October 28th - you up for it? There are some excellent gigs in Nottingham this year, woo!
  10. My gums are kind of sore. It's strange, isn't it, how when you have a pain you keep prodding the affected area. You know it hurts, you know hurt is bad, yet you feel strangely compelled to explore the sensation. Oh. It's just me, isn't it.
  11. I was walking alone in the forest the other day. A tree fell over in front of me, and I didn't hear it.
  12. Discovery: PC keyboards may malfuction when covered in drool.
  13. Grand Theft Auto 3 rules! I bought a PS2 recently and it's become one of my fave games (though Metal Gear Solid 2 currently holds the top spot). MLB - we have to get a nice big TV for the house this year and have a few Playstation sessions. Though 5 women in the house might not take too kindly to that.
  14. Yo bitches! After a temporary absence due to a job and the purchase of a playstation 2, I've now decided to once again grace this board with my humbly ask permission to return to the loving fold of Drunken Deities. I'm off back to University soon, where there may well be only infrequent internet access (those times when I'm attending classes on campus ie. rarely). It'll be nice to have the board to check out when I'm supposed to be working.
  15. I started a new job today, at the place I've wanted to work since it opened - a video rental place. Can you say free videos!!? Tonight I have Tigerland and The Man Who Wasn't There, starting a season of 2 free films a night, for the whole frickin' summer. Baby.
  16. Isn't this the best music video in frickin' ages? If you haven't seen it keep an eye out.
  17. Haven't lost interest, just didn't know the lyric. Paradise City, by Guns N' Roses. "Though I know that evening's empire has returned into sand Vanished from my hand Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping"
  18. The shortest science fiction story ever written: "The last human on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock at the door."
  19. Oh man Breakfast at Tiffany's I haven't heard that in a while *fires up Kazaa Lite*. I thought I'd post these, from Bruce Springsteen's The River. Maybe it's just me, but there is something really striking about these lines. They are really evocative and downright erotic, to me anyway. "Now I just act like I don't remember Mary acts like she don't care But I remember us riding in my brother's car Her body tanned and wet down at the reservoir At night on them banks I'd lie awake And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take." The 'tanned and wet' bit always leaps out at me whenever I listen to the song. I think you probably have to listen to him sing it to get what I'm on about, but hey.
  20. "It's just a simple Rorsarch ink-blot test, Mr. Bromwell, so just calm down and tell me what each one suggests to you."
  21. Just thought I'd mention one of my favourite sites: Ever found something hilarious and been unable to work out why? Check out Pokey the Penguin. At first it looks like shit, but persevere, read lots of the archives, and the genius will shine through. It's getting quite big now, they have merchendise etc, but when I found it no-one quite knew what it was, it was just the comic with no explanation. Trust me on this one.
  22. I'll come! Oh no, shit, I'm 5000 miles away. My point is, I'm fed up with the voting for buttercup. Bubbles is obviously the best, ok? She's got the most cutesy voice and is the funniest. You Florida people obviously have some problems when voting for stuff.
  23. What kind of amounts are we typicaly donating? I know I'm new here but I figure I may as well buy a few friends eh? Seriously though I can use Paypal so might add a few dollars to the pool.
  24. Nice site. By the way, are you proud in your lack of Windows knowledge (and there's nothing wrong with that) or would you like to know how us people using it can view the full pictures on your page? If the latter, you can do it by right-clicking the image, going to properties, highlight and copying the address, and pasting it in yer address bar. If putting that on each page seems like a bit of a waste of time, then I agree. Just though I'd mention it.
