The Wrestler
Rourke's performance is as great as everyone's saying. One of Aronofsky's least depressing films but that's not really saying much...I don't think I'll ever watch any of his movies more than once. I was really impressed with the little technical details of the movie (make-up in particular) and even though it was a smaller part of the movie, the scenes between him and his daughter were some of the best acting in the entire film.
Happy Go Lucky
oh what juxtaposition! Poppy's happiness is infectious and I agree that Sally Hawkins should have been nominated for an Oscar as well. Normally, I can't stand movies that meander and have no real plot but the characters (Poppy in particular) were so great that I didn't care.
Man on Wire
What an incredible story! This doc hooks you in right away...i was getting vertigo just watching it. The enthusiasm of Petit when he tells the story even today really is a testament of how these shananigans were pulled off. and it's such a bittersweet story as you can tell how much the pursuit of Petit's dream affected everyone involved, particularly toward the end of the documentary. It's almost as if the event was meant to be, no matter how many obstacles they faced. I didn't want the film to end!
