Keth
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=98848 In what would be a surprising move, rumors at Vulture today suggest that Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is prepping for an action film set in the Star Wars universe. The site suggests that this new, temporarily untitled film would loosely remake Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, set in the past of George Lucas' sci-fi universe. Snyder himself responded to rumors about him directing the highly-anticipated Episode VII late last year. “I don’t think I’d be interested in directing it," Snyder told the LA Times. "I’m a huge ‘Star Wars’ fanatic. I just think doing [episodes] seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope. It’s a whole other mythological experiment I’m excited to see, but it’s a lot of effort.” Now it appears that Snyder's comments could have been clever misdirection, hinting at his interest in the cinematic saga without revealing that his plans are unconnected to the new trilogy. crimsonfire
I literally have no idea what to make of all this. Of all the sequels or reboots they could have done, I expected Star Wars to be waaay down on the list. I'm still a little shell shocked by it all. I'm reserving judgement on whether it's a good or bad thing until more facts are forthcoming. Zack Snyder though. Love the guy and all but... nah. crimsonfire
Good. I expected nothing less than that from Zack. He's a good boy, he is.
The NZA
isnt Snyder usually literal to a fault with other stuff? i'm intrigued, because a) no one's done anything interesting with SW since clone wars animated, and b) Seven Samurai >> that entire franchise
Iambaytor
Well to be fair Seven Samurai >>>> most things.

Mr. Hakujin
I doubt that "NO RE-BOOTS OF THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY!!!!" was a clause Lucas could've or even would've put in to the contract when selling the franchise to Disney. It's possible, but not something I'd really like to face in my lifetime.
Iambaytor
Yeah, a reboot is an uneccesary and stupid thing to do, especially when Lucas replaces another piece of the original movies with some horrible thing every five seconds. (You Trekkies keep complaining about JJ Abrhams, at least you can watch the old movies and they're still the same ones they were then)
Mr. Hakujin
Actually, they've updated the SFX on ST:TOS and re-released them on bluray. I'm not sure if they re-did any of the SFX on the movies for their bluray releases though.
Iambaytor
We'll see, last I checked the original prints of the first 3 movies were not available in anything past laserdisc quality.
