Keth Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Preordered the amiibo one last night. This is actually sounding really good. Im glad theyre making the light tears collecting sections easier Quote
The NZA Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Twilight Princess Amiibo functionality revealed Wolf Link unlocks the Thorough Battle: Trial of the Beast area. Clearing this area with the giant's wallet increases your maximum rupee count to 9999. Link and Toon Link fully replenish your arrows once per day. Zelda and Shiek fully replenish your hearts once per day Ganondorf makes you take double damage. damn, wondering if that double damage stacks with Hero mode? Quote
Keth Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Those are some pretty awesome perks actually and may coerce me into buying those amiibos at some point. Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Just picked it up @ Best Buy - $60 for the game and Wolf Link Amiibo combo pack. (I pre-ordered) My 13th Amiibo...I need to stop. Drowning in plastic over here...ah, fuck it - I want that Cloud Amiibo! Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Just got the Master Sword - a lot of the updated textures look damn good, youtube doesn't do the upgrade justice. I've had a few moments where I stopped, just marveling at the HD-ness of it all. Lake Hylia - man - for the most part, the game's visuals are 'dated' 'cuz of the polygons - but the HD skin and improved atmospheric elements really make the game feel modern n' new. It just feels really good to run around in Hyrule again. Anyone else playing this? Where you at? Quote
Keth Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I just finished the desert temple wherr you get the surfing gear thing.Lake Hylia really does look awesome. There are some collision issues here and there (fuck you Epona), but for the most part it plays great. Still wish Skyward Sword would get this treatment. its just way prettier imo Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Yeah, seriously - Epona handles worse than a damn tank going down those trails. If I'm not in an open field - I just don't sprint: I'm trotting past enemies like a lame-wad. G'AAAH!!! Quote
The NZA Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 congrats on the master sword, nemo! dungeons get so much better after that... Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I'm taking my time w/ this one - After getting that Master Sword - the world opens up and I can finally transform into a wolf at will. - I'm just running all available errands and exploring the landscape: blowing up every rock, hurling myself into every cave, completing all the mini-games. Even spent a couple o' hours fishing...just enjoying the atmosphere. BTW... Y'all know, if you wanna shop smart - shop Malo Mart. Quote
Keth Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 (edited) Welp just finished it. It's a fine game to be sure, but holy hell does it get tedious. Maybe because I was trying to just get through the game and didn't do any side missions, but there were times here I felt sorry for Link being a goddamn errand boy. Of the one's that I've played this one isn't exactly up in the list. Top 3 I'd go 1: Majora's Mask 2: Wind Waker 3: Skyward Sword (Now I need to finish that one.) The ending of TP was pretty underwhelming too. Zant looked to be such a cool villain. They could have created this whole new arch nemesis for Link, but they shoehorned Ganon into the game. That was disappointing. Zant could have been another Majora ('s Mask?). Edited March 15, 2016 by Axels Quote
The NZA Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 how'd you dig sky sanctuary & the later dungeons, though? and agreed on the shoehorning thing: again, majora's, link's awakening etc - the games unafraid to break from the formula & grow a new villain - are some of my favorites. i do feel midna's the best of the sidekicks, though...and Fi was a huge dropoff for me in skyward, personally. Quote
Keth Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 My favorite dungeons were the Desert one (surfing gear) and the sky sanctuary with the dual hookshots. The Twilight one was kinda pissing me off with the transporting items. Felt like a escort quest or something. The dungeons were solid though, it was the in between that bugged me. (Catching the fish for snowhead, Illia's memory, letters for the book). Midna grew on me as the story went on. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing a spiritual sequel or something with her coming back in her real... ahem curvy, form. I agree with Fi too. She looks cool, but has no personality. Like an AI or something. But Skyward had a more pleasing aesthetic (to me) and a super fun control scheme despite nasayers. The more I played TP, the more color I wanted. It's more washed out than I remember, even with them toning down the sepia a bit in this one. Quote
The NZA Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 agreed with pretty much all of that - the dipped-in-sepia look was meant to show how unwelcoming the dark world was, but i remember thinking SS's watercolor style was so much nicer. and you know i was ALL ABOUT THAT WAGGLE one knock i had on TP at the time (besides the dumb lightbug hunt thing, that SS did too sadly) was that the overworld felt large at times, but mostly barren...i didn't feel my exploration was often rewarded. sometimes there were rupees, but not much to spend them on...did you feel that way here too? not sure if they made any changes to that, Skyward cleared that up with the upgrade system (and partly because the segmented overworld feels smaller & can have more treasures about). Quote
Keth Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Oh definitely barren. Other than the statue/rod part, I felt no real incentive to explore. And you're totally right about the rupees. I only ever upgraded to the second wallet (let's you hold 1000 in this one as opposed to 600) and I had it full for the last half of the game. My favorite part in the whole game is still the Hidden Village. I only wish there were more enemies in this area. Probably the main thing that interests me in seeing a western styled Zelda. Mostly for that sweet tune that plays though. This filled my Gerudo Valley void in my heart. Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I agree with the barren landscape - my wallet's been full and I already bought all there is. Only real incentive to explore Hyrule at this point is to find bugs and Poes. The item upgrade system in SS is a great idea - this really feels like a 'back to basics' return to the 'old-school', 'traditional' Zelda era. Great HD facelift for a solid 10 year-old game, but it makes me wish there was more to do. Makes me want...Zelda U... Ganon doesn't feel shoe-horned in for me - they tease his involvement pretty much since the beginning. Same w/ Agahnim in LTTP, Ganon uses puppets - that's kinda his thing when he gets killed. I also dig it when they break formula, don't lean on Ganon and create a new villain - but I think the whole Midna / Zant conflict totally stood on it's own. Ganon having given the situation 'a little push'...and waiting on the side-lines, (shrugs) I thought the whole thing worked. I think Zant is awesome - he's a new, fleshed-out villain and I loved that the source of his newfound power came from 'his God'...Ganon...I didn't feel like it weakened his character - he's still extremely original and kicks-ass. Don't know 'bout Ghirahim, though - Enough w/ the tongue! Back up! My top 3: 1. Ocarina of Time 2. Link to the Past 3. Link's Awakening Quote
Keth Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 While I do need to beat SS, I do know how it ends, and they do the same thing! Is it Ganondorf shoehorned in? Not technically, but It might as well be. Demise is basically Ganondorf 1.0 right? --- I just think it should have been one villain or the other. I like the execution backstory, and direct reference to OOT, but I also like Zant and MIdna's conflict. They could have made two solid games set in this time frame with these villains. Speaking of timeframes, I've been trying to wrap my head around the timeline and goddamn it's complicated. Finally got to a point of acceptance though where it makes sense to me. I haven't read much of Hyrule Historia, but I need to. It's basically just a chelf piece right now. Quote
The NZA Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 as a big zelda fan: timeline is garbage. they've revised it several times because the rabid fanbase refuses to accept that they're not all connected/don't need to be, and frankly the 3rd "link fails" line the official book introduced was a huge mess - so much so that last i read, they've already revised it again. it still includes Link's Crossbow Training somehow, though. that's really all i need to know about that - for me, the only interesting angle is the ruined hyrule one that exists in & after wind waker, personally. i'm alright with continuity - i love hyrule lore, but i'm not here for an overarching plot, so it doesn't bother me. as for Ghirahim - yeah he's creepy, but i thought his fight was pretty crazy, as it worked in everything you'd learned about waggle-fighting in that game. i wish id not lost sync once or twice, but it was a cool fight and way more challenging/intensive than the finale afterwards Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 LOL - 'Waggle-fighting' LOL! My favorite timeline is the altered/Child one w/ Majora and Twilight - 'cuz the Ocarina Hyrule is still intact. Sucks that the NES ones fall in a 'Game Over' timeline. (WTF is that?!) I hope Zelda U falls in the same timeline as the NES games and somehow enrichens the lore of those legendary games. Quote
