  1. You should find out why people hated it why stabbing them slowly. Hey, its a mercy kill. BTW, killer avatar 2T. I may need to follow you down the Partridge route. I, Alan Patridge, would like to push you, Simon Fisher, into a very deep, disused canal. (Talking about U2 with a couple of Irish guys) You wake up in the morning, the kids are screaming and you just think sunday bloody sunday
  2. Saw this again last night and I have to say I enjoyed it even more than the first time I watched it. Really stands up to repeat viewings. As promised here are two of the obvious Spaced homages in Shaun of the Dead. 1) The term "Fried Gold" is used a couple of times in the film. If you have watched the Spaced commentary in Series 2 (which I have done multiple times coz its almost as funny as the show itself) they talk about using "fried gold" on set when there was a particularly good piece of comedy acting. 2) There is a zombie version of Tiaz, a rave-obsessed minor character with a short attention span who featured in a couple of episodes. He is easy to pick out among the crowd of zombies outside the Winchester pub by his bright yellow cap and bike-courier outfit. Look forward to the DVD. The Spaced crew put a lot of effort into the Spaced DVD with really good extras, thoughtfully done, so I expect nothing less from the Shaun of the Dead DVD.
  3. I need to get more Aphex, don't know as much as I'd like to. No. In the episode where Daisy and Tim go to the social security office (Episode #2 I believe), its the old lady that gets chucked out saying "Just a tenner". She can pick her parts damn well for a pensioner Aphex Twin and Spaced! Damn.
  4. I'm sorry man, I just didn't dig them too much. Don't get me wrong, I didn't think they were awful but they just didn't contain the succinctness I loved with the strip. I dunno. Its been awhile. Since you and Jax seem so adamant maybe I'll give them another shot. And yes Jax, I liked the songs.
  5. Oh man, good political satire goes a long way back. SOme of the Punch cartoons from the Victorian and Edwardian period in the UK are very good. That museum looks pretty sweet. Have to remember that if I'm ever back in the Bay area. You too? I have my dad to thank for so much stuff, including introducing me to C&H, Doonesbury, Bloom County, etc... (he has me to thank for the Boondocks tho which he now loves ). Reading a lot of the old Doonesbury, even now I don't understand it all, but most of it is damn funny. Really admire Treadeau (spelling?) for how well he has managed to keep it fresh by aging the main characters and changing the minor characters every now and again.
  6. Love the Non-Sequitors, they're pretty damn excellent. I do visit the uComics website occasionally to read differwent strips. Will certainly start reading those on a regualr basis. You a Doonesbury fan Jax?
  7. I do understand what you mean. I'm sure the end result would be cool, especially as Watterson's sunday strips are definitely some of the best C&H stuff. However, it'd be kind of like thinking your favourite cat is dead only for it to reappear years later. Slightly unnerving and a bit weird. Alright, I'll hold my breath. I have no problem with McGruder trying out other mediums. I hear his collaboration with Kyle Baker on 'Birth of a Nation' graphic novel is awesome. However, I just wish that he would create something new to make inot a cartoon, not do it with the already strip-established Boondocks. Uhhh...I'm just gonna have to go ahead and ..sort of... disagree with you there One of my nightmares is that I'm going to switch on the tv and they are showing a sitcom-version of Foxtrot with Josh Hartnett as Peter, Haley "I see dead people" Joel Osmond as Jason, etc...
  8. Oh god, they are making an animated series of the Boondocks! My ears doth protest! Seriously animated series are just the worst ideas, ever. Look what happened to Peanuts, Dennis the Menace and Dilbert. Thats the 2nd time I've been devastated in two days. The first was when my economics lecturer told me that Lewis Carroll (Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass, etc) was a suspected paedophile. As for C&H, it should be left where it is. It's a Magical World and There's Treasure Everywhere are the misty-makers for me.
  9. Oh man I apologise about forgetting Far Side, Peanuts too. I suck. As for Zits and Non-Sequitor, I have to confess I don't know much about the U.S. funny pages so haven't read too many of these. Generally put the most famous ones in the poll that I have read and/or know well. Apologies. IC, nice to have a fellow Bloom County fan. Gotta love that anxiety closet. Ackk! furballs.
  10. Everyone loves the funny pages. You know its the reason 96.8% of Americans read the newspaper. So if you were stranded on a desert island with only one comic strip to keep you company alongside the coconuts, which one would you choose??
  11. I love how C&H was ended. Beautifully drawn and really captured the sentiment of the whole comic strip. I reckon the same can be said for the ending of Bloom County where all the characters go there seperate ways and end up in other comic strips. Nicely done.
  12. Do you mean of Mitsuko´s backstory or the whole thing? Mitsuko´s back story is pretty bad. Lets just say in involves a lot of fluids.
  13. I did like JTHM although the long dialogue scenes could be a bit tedious. Lenore however is always entertaining. Some of my favourites include the "Samurai Sloth" and the story where Lenore goes into a pet store and mistakes hamsters for toys you squeeze and the eyes pop out. Hilarity ensues.
  14. Haven't seen this cartoon but massive fans of both Jhonen Vasquez and Roman Dirge (creators of 'Johnny the Homicidal Maniac' and 'Lenore' comics respectively) who I believe have both worked on the cartoon. Both have wicked, slightly unnerving senses of humour so imagine Invader Zim has a similar off-the-wall streak running through it. Gonna visit my local Blockbuster see if I can pick up a DVD or something of it. p.s. btw Lenore rocks my world, people should seriously check it out at your local comic shop.
  15. Going to see Ghost in the Shell 2 soon I reckon. Reviews I've read didn't think much of the script or plot but gonna be wirth it just for the animation. Haven't see GitS 1(hehe nice acronym ) but hopefully that won't matter much.
  16. Who's a naughty fellah? who's a naughty fella? Mr. Caterpillar! Mr. Caterpillar!
  17. He wore the dookie when we met Queen Elizabeth Asked her was she jealous, she said 'A little bit' I guess a crown jewel never compares To the rope that the Einstein wears They got the eye on the gold chain Ugly Duckling rock my world.
  18. Aphex Twin's music videos rock. Cool link with Spaced (awesome UK tv show) is that an old lady starring in one of the episodes in series 2 is the old lady who gets screamed at in the Come to Daddy video by a weird alien dude.
  19. One of the things thats nice for Spaced fans is that there are a number of references to Spaced throughout Shaun of the Dead. Can't remember what these are off-hand but will watch the film again soon and perhaps list them like the sad guy I am. Its kinda like Steve Coogan's alter-ego Alan Partridge. Steve Coogan can't do a film role without some Partridge-isms sneaking in. I reckon Simon Pegg will never be able to do anything with Nick Frost and Edgar Wright without some Spaced-isms being evident. Tim: What are we going to do man, were screwed Mike: We're gonna fix him and then we're going to kick some arse......Timmy...fetch me my tools By the way, brilliant unofficial fan site is back up where you can check out some film clips and audio clips and all-sorts of other stuff. And here it is
  20. Tiz: Right mines a pint of the black stuff Mike: You can't drink a pint of bovril (Tim and Daisy confronted by gang of youths) Tim: What?! Gang leader: You know what Tim: Is it because I sang the song from the Kiora advert? Daisy: Oh I remember that. "Its too orangey for crows". Spaced is the fanboys dream come true, a show packed with obscure film references and quotable snit-bits
  21. I'm a huge Aphex Twin fan. Druqks is definitely my favourite full length album of his (i.e. its listenable the whole way through ). One of my most defining live music moments was getting to see him perform at Reading Festival a few years back. Packed into the dance tent, the live show was something else, even though its literally a hairy man with a laptop. Needless to say my mind exploded with the first few chords of Windowlicker and I spent the next few days grinning like an idiot. THat sounds cool deac, will have to try and seek that cover out.
  22. Egad, watch out for the thought police In here everyone will hear you scream.
