  1. Most exciting upcoming release for me has to be the new Wes Anderson (Rushmore, The Royal Tenebaums) comedy, 'The Life Aquatic'. Killer cast. Trailer, which can be found on the official website looks brilliant
  2. Nice work SoF, Volcano by Damien Rice is one of the best acoustic tracks of recent years. Not too hard to play either.
  3. Just like Deac, looking forward to the DVD release. And I second the recommendation of Spaced a British comedy. It is my favourite sitcom of ALL TIME. Not even Fawlty Towers can topple it for me. Its down at the moment but check out the official fan's website sometime. www.spaced-out.org.uk You should be able to see some clips and stuff on it from the show. The film was brilliant though, reminded me of 'From Dawn to Dusk' as there were sort of two distinct halves to the film, first half comedy, the second half zombie flick. Killer cast as well. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost obviously stand out as the two heroes, but Bill Nighy as Philip does an outstanding job. Only disappointment for me was Dylan Moran's character, David. Shame to see a brilliant comedy actor given a slightly weak part I thought. All in all though, two enthusiatic thumbs up, fine holiday fun!
  4. ok, am I missing something?? IC, I haven't seen BR2 yet, but not exactly rushing to see it as I've heard its not too good. Will see it eventually though I'm sure. As for the Manga, its source is BR1. It is much closer to the original book than the film because it includes so much more backstory and takes much more time killing each character off, one-by-one. Especially good are some of the Mitsuko backstories that just make her seem like the devil incarnate. However, the most recent issue no. 8 showed a kind of messed-up side to her and seeks to explain where her viciousness comes from. I'm not denying the greatness of the Lone Wolf and Cub comics, enjoyed reading Lizrad'c collection. He stopped buying them after about nukber 9 though. Rarrr
  5. I know you guys are pleased to have be back but I wish you'd stop gossiping about me. I've seen you all posting on the MLB news topic. Lousy coffee
  6. Glad to see this topics still hear, thought I'd bring it to the forefront again. The series is up to number 8 (??) now I think and I'm looking forward to the next one coming out in a few weeks. The next book promisies to be excellent as it will include the infamous lighthouse scene (for those of you who have seen the film). I really can't recommend this series enough. While there is the occasional dodgy translation, it can be overlooked when both the art and the characterisation are this good. With the Battle Royale film most characters dies without you even getting to see them. In the Manga you see almost everyones background and this connection makes the whole thing that much more tragic. THe Manga isn't really that expensive and I believe the series will end at about number 12 or so. At least its not another Lone Wolf in that respect $$. Anyone else buying this (or not) who wants to share their comments??
  7. Right on the money there Deacon. That was a hell of a film, up there with the best opening sequences in a film ever I reckon. Scared the crap out of me.
  8. No fraid not. I'm a limey but currently studying in Boston, Mass. Gotta visit Texas one day though. I'd love to visit when they have the big music showcase called Southwestern or something?? Think thats in Texas?? Trail of Dead are doing quite a large tour I think. You should check out their websaite to see if they are playing anywhere near you. Are you a Texan then Metal?
  9. Really jealous about the Pixies, looks like I may have missed the boat. On a happy note though, just got my ticket to see '...And you will know them by the Trail of Dead' in October in Boston. Seen them once before and they threw all of their equipment off the stage in the middle of the set, drumkit, guitars, pedals and everything. Crazy ass texas band. Can't wait. Also, Presidents of the United States of America are coming to town soon so pretty excited about that. "she's lump, she's lump, she's lump, she's in my head.....bow bow bow bow bow bow bow bow bow"
  10. I'm enjoying a lot of Richard Cheese mp3's at the moment. He does lounge jazz versions of popular classics, e.g. System of a Down, Papa Roach, Madonna, etc. Really funny hearing a guy sing lines like "...why have you forsaken me..." in a Las Vegas performer stylee.
  11. Wow, this place looks great, props to IC. I'm still learning my guitar, although since my electric guitar tuner now seems to be working I've favouring practicing distortion over acoustic. Nirvana sounds cool on it, as does some Green Day, Hole and Foos. Great fun since TMTYL showed me that if you put the sound booster button on on the amp and turn the volume down a bit you get a cheap man's distortion. Pedals are for wusses. On the acoustic I would definitely recommend Eels stuff from Daisies of the Galaxy. Good Riddance is a cool choice. Some White Stripes sounds wicked also. You can go fror the thrash-strum of Hotel Yorba, to the finger-picking beauty of We're Gonna Be Friends. Next Year by Foos is my current playing song of choice at the mo. Quick Tab: Theme from Halloween e (1st string) 7 0 0 7 0 0 7 0 0 8 ....and repeat.... Enjoy
  12. Batter be careful, or you gonna get busted! :sly:
  13. Well, that more than makes up for it. I just don't get why the obsession with remaking already classic Michael Caine films. First Get Carter, now The Italian Job and of course Alfie coming soon. :!:
  14. I heard there are like fisticuffs in it, stuff like that. The charm of the original was the complete lack of violence, just mini-racing silliness aound Turin. Also heard it is set in L.A. so whats with the title Italian Job ? Also th original has one of the greatest movie endings of ALL TIME... Hold on lads, I have an idea Great soundtrack too. It's a self preservation society... Currently on order from Amazon: 3 mini coopers 3 fast cars :approve:
  15. With Michael Caine uttering the immortal line... You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off
  16. Sorry, suprises me you haven't seen or heard that there was an original. It's a big cult film, but perhaps only this side of the atlantic.
  17. Have you seen the original to compare it against though? I assume it is a remake. Can't quite see it improving on the original at all ???
  18. Don't forget the end dinner table scene... the salmon moussseeeeee And of course, the best Monty Python song (EVER!) Galaxy Song where Eric Idle steps out of the fridge. Great stuff.
  19. Mad props to Jax for his Billy Shears title, rock on the Beatles. I think that was one of the mysteries surrounding thier songs, who was Billy Shears? ??? And a little rant to the music snobs I was speaking to. Sure I accept Hendrix is a better musician than Cobain but dammit I'd rather stick on Nevermind than Experience. Oh yeah, and Love suck.
  20. Great song, I know its Cake, but can't think of the title....ummm....oh i know Going the Distance If you like cool driving theme songs check out DJ Shadow - Mashin' on the motorway. Absolutely awesome. "If the man is five then the man is five then the man is five Then the devil is six then the devil is six the devil is six And then god is seven and then god is seven and god is seven..."
  21. Is it Incubus - I wish you were here ? (not sure as I only got it from the chorus bit) Assuming it is, Your pop caught you smoking - and he said, "No way!" That hypocrite - smokes two packs a day Man, living at home is such a drag Now your mom threw away your best porno mag
  22. Bought this comic recently and it blew me away. Exams have finished so thought I'd post a review. For those who don't know, Battle Royale was originally a novel and was released as a movie a few years back. It is a story about a load of students taken to an island where they must kill eachother in order to survive. Kind of Lord of the Flies meets The Running Man. Japan made it into a film a few years back and it got a good reception here in Britian. However, due to the yankee gun laws and all-too-familiar school shottings it never got a release in the U.S. I'm guessing this comic weill be easier to track down. For starters I am not an anime fan, my knowledge begins and ends with Crying Freeman of which I've read one issue. This comic has been released in Japan for years but has only just been translated (by Keith Giffen). It is kept very true to the original though and I found it initially very difficult to get used to reading right to left, as it has been kept. Sure, some of the translation doesn't read quite right but it is a good effort nonetheless. It is especially excellent since it is more based on the novel than the film so there is much more background story to the characters. It is also far more graphic, even than the film. I would highly recommend it to anyone without a nervous desposition. The first issue really doesn't cover too much and my only criticism is that it looks like the 2nd installment isn't out till July. Can't wait.
  23. Finished my exams. Another year, another step closer to me goal. The ability to get a job where I can buy more comics than my current budget allows. :approve: Damn that Violent Femmes ringtone of mine is ace. Booyah!
  24. Radiohead - Creep. Nice call. It's the voodoo hoodoo what-you-don't-dare-do people Not sure if you Yanks have got these guys. I Would have thought so.
  25. THe first film was so great I don't really see the point of remaking it. Especially when there are plenty of other Roald Dahl books that might benefit from the movie adaption. Perhaps George's Marvellous Medicine, The Twits, or a Disney adaption of THe Fantastic Mr. Fox. Now THAT would kick some ass.
