Really just wanted to make a topic for that awesome trailer. I doubt the game's gonna be as great, but here's some gameplay.

Looks pretty generic, but still could be fun.

ANYWAY here's the trailer again, but in TF2 style

the more i read about it, the more it does sound kinda interesting - you die, play as another charcter who has to go find your zombie & kill him to loot your shit back. i gotta see more though, for now it's still a rental.

newest one, till its taken down

the more i read about the multi, the more it's kinda interesting - 1 human, 1 person placing zombies everywhere to stop them, etc. the single player concept of picking stuff up from your last character after they got zombified is cool too, but this one still screams rental to me so far.

not yet, but soon!

my gamefly rental got messed up in the mail, but i just traded a dude on another forum for this one and it's on its way here now. i figure it was worth the chance, and the fact he said he's not good at horror games that are too scary/tense got me excited too.

mixed reviews so far, but some survival horror fans i know love it. i'll post impressions when i have em.

haha what a mean little game this is.

so you start off running for your life (i died pretty quick before catching on), get to a safehouse where the game proper starts. you've got various missions to try to get britain's CCTV cameras working so your mini-map can actually show you the nearby area...which is quite essential, because even at max brightness, the darks on a plasma mean you're moving blind if you run out of juice for your flashlight (not a great idea to have it on & let creatures know where you are anyway).

it's like: picture the nest you had in the mall in Dead Rising. now picture it's first person, there's no escorting shit cause everyone's dead, so those missions are you going out for supplies/recon and praying you make it back to your safe house alive to drop off said stuff. when you don't, your guy is graded by how long you made it, then runs around like any other zombie, carrying whatever shit you left on him (if he dies around a herd - and he will - you're kinda fucked). also he can now invade the safehouses of people on your friends list, apparently. it's crazy.

this is like the complete opposite of Left 4 Dead: you start as someone new everytime, and get to have a basic cricket bat for melee and maybe a gun, but the latter is loud and ammo is rarer than gold. melee will also not save you: ive found if there's as many as 3 (or more) zombies in a room, you're going to die struggling. it's not just your life meter, one is going to lunge & grab and devour you. i mustive lost nearly 10 people when a swarm tried breaking into my safehouse last night, goddamn.

the game uses the wu tablet in interesting ways - you look around with it to scan for stuff, but the trick is when you need to check your backpack (i keep flares, medkit, gun & paddle on me for quick access) for other supplies you're carrying, or say when you wanna loot the dead, you're looking through said tablet. i thought ubisoft was clever here, because they know you're looking in one direction and kinda blind to the main TV, leaving you vulnerable...so you only do this when you think the room's clear, and even then not for logn.

when you're connected in an area & the scanner works proper, it's kind've like that scene in Aliens: you keep scanning as you go and getting nothing, then you feel brave & explore a basement just to scan and find about 4 or 5 around you.

hoping to play again tomorrow, this is the first game ive noticed the limited battery on said pad though - i was on for maybe 4 hours last night and it ran outta juice & had to charge. going back in to see what supplies they have at buckingham palace, best i can tell you is to be stingy (like old school RE), careful of doors/cars that might have alarms, and do not attached to any character you play as because they're all doomed.

no bugs at all for me, its anecdotal but ive had no troubles across 4 games now, and that's a launch day system. OS sometimes drags a bit but no locks or hanging of any kind. i hear there's another update coming in december, rumor is that should iron out some more kinks so it benefits you to wait, of course.

it's scary, in the popup/RE sense - for instance, i had to get over to a grocery store for some supplies. i managed to clear the shop out but for a spec or two on my radar that i didn't find, but i did discover another room with some emergency supplies - had a quick scare there with something i should not have assumed was dead, then rushing back up the stairs after hearing something got a zombie to ambush me from the dark of said staircase, i think even bones jumped at that one.

it's mostly stuff like that when you're not paying attention. you border up a door and wait during an attack, and forget the crawlspace a few rooms over. but because the game doesn't (so far) tend to flood you with more than a zombie here & there, it's a big deal when you're on the streets and see a half dozen in the distance.

also i was just told that i missed a few land mines i could've really used on the last invasion, fuck. all i had was flares!
