I swear, its not a porn, tho its set up to be a great one. This is one of those ones that keeps you waiting month to month, and if you havent the patience for it, you should stick to the trades....here's Vertigo's hype:

In the summer of 2002, a plague of unknown origin destroys every last sperm, fetus, and fully developed mammal with a Y chromosome - with the exception of amateur escape artist Yorick Brown and his surly male helper monkey Ampersand.

This "gendercide" instantaneously exterminates 48% of the global population, or approximately 29 billion men.

This is the world of Y - The Last Man

Introduced in a super-sized 40 page first issue, this new ongoing VERTIGO adventure series is brought to you by writer Brian K. Vaughan (SWAMP THING, The Hood), up-and-coming artist Pia Guerra and acclaimed inker José Marzan, Jr, with striking painted covers by J.G. Jones (WONDER WOMAN: THE HIKETEIA, Marvel Boy).

Mindful of his unique status in the new world order, Yorick undertakes a continent spanning quest to find his missing girlfriend and one true love, an exchange student trapped in Australia.

Along the way he meets a variety of women, each with their own agenda for him - including a combat soldier in the Israel Defense Forces, a United States congresswoman, and one of the planet’s premier bioengineers.

Will Yorick be used and exploited by world powers hoping to repopulate their empires?

Will the benefits of being the last man on Earth outweigh the cost?

Its amazing how well Vaughn looks at the social ramifications of the abscense of men; from the lack of pilots & workers worldwide, to the wives of republican senators sieging the white house to rid it of the "democrat's stranglehold", on down to the fem-nazi cult of "Amazons" who believe makind's downfall was a gift from god. Yorick's cross-coutnry trek leads through some amazing adventures, while examing prion systems, local government, and trade routes for remaining sanitary pads. It's funny, no doubt, but its smart & really intersting as well.

Its about $10 a book over at Amazon, and almost 4 trades in...cant recommend this one enough as a great, approachable Vertigo read. Ill see if i can find preview pages.

I've read up to issue #19 (I think?) of this one. It ends with our man Yorrick in some sort of bondage sequence.

I really want to pick up the TPBs, I've only read them on computer. Of course money is an issue.

Its pretty light-hearted stuff, although using a very scary premise. I can't recommend it enough.

Ah, cool, so youre up to "Safeword"....thats actually an arc that affects Yorick's behaviour through the rest of the series, it was a good one.

Right now, boy's in a bit of trouble, and his sister Hero seems about as well...last month's was # 28, so youre not far behind MLB...glad someone else is enjoyin this one. :D

Just checked and yeah the last one I red was issue #19, Safeword: Part 2

I really want to read some more as it does seem like a really important point of the story and you finally get to learn a bit more about our young anti-hero, Yorick.

Not sure if any of my local comic shops carry the issues but will definitely go and have a look after Thanksgiving break.

Any ideas IC how long this one is going to go?

Well, Vaugh seems to know now, but he's not sayin....the vertigo avearge is about 60-70, right? But between this and 100 Bullets, no one's saying when the closing act is exactly, but in the latter, you can kinda feel its only so far off; with this one, its gettin serious right now, but Id ay theres a fair amount left....we still dont even know what the virus was.

If you wanna catch up on your PC, check ZCult FM channel 4, they carry the new ones at least, bound to find the missing ones around there.

I am useless at computers but might ask Lizard to find the missing issues for me as a Christmas present :D

This definitely strikes me as a comic that will go on for awhile. Although I'm not convinced the virus itself will ever be explained. Really can't predict how this one will end, but I have faith that we will not be let down.

Okay, I usually always trust your opinion IC but Y...just didn't do it for me...I dunno. That being said I've only read the first trade. I can't read comics on the computer, it just makes me feel yucky, but I need to know should I drop $15 on the second trade....

Hmm....lemme go back and doulbe-check what arc TPB 2 is. Ill tell you the last one, "Safety Word" was pretty storng, but its like 4 trades in now, and that's a bit much if 1 didnt grab you....ill post back, good that you gave it a go.

Me, i took to it more than Fables from the first trade, but im told i have to keep at that one too....ill tell you this: if youre goin on my Vertigo recommendations, i doubt the 1st TPB of 100 Bullets will grab you, cause it did shit for me. By 2 or early 3, tho, i thought it was amazing.

Hrrrm. That last post don't make a whole lotta sense to me. Oh well. The big-bad-boss thing i noticed at the beginning of book three though was Yorick's Zippo, which bears the engraving 'Fuck Communism'. Sound familiar anyone from the Preacher boards? Love lil' references like that! An' it just goes to show how much a story like Preacher influences books even years later...

Yeah noticed that Skeet, couldn't miss it. Great referencing.

I want to pick up the TPBs of this but now buying 100 Bullets and Walking Dead so need to save the money. We need a smilie with dollar-signs for eyes.

Yeah, i'm followin' the current run of Bullets and it's pretty sweet. I've pretty much read the whole run with a few gaps, Book three (hang up on the hang low) is definetely my favourite arc yet.

's like a lotta Vetigo books: the first Preacher didnt even lock me in, and i put off 100 Bullets for years after only the 1st one. Sometimes, a titlte just takes a bit winding up, and at $15-20 a TPB, i can see the hesitancy.

Man, the current arc "Girl on Girl" is....hot.

I got the third trade. Fuck Communism indeed...

I didn't really dig it as much as the first two, the astronaughts were pointless, and Comedy & Tragedy was too. I'll still get the fourth trade though (is there one yet?).

Posted

Amazon says yes, and its less than 8 bucks, and "Safeword" is much better than "One small step", i believe.

Also, TPB 5 "Ring of Truth" is out too....which brings you pretty close to up to date, theyre putting out the trades quicker these days, which is awesome. I'm lookin forward to the next chapter of "Girl on girl" tonight...
