So I noticed Hondo's Bar didn't have a good old fashioned console war debate for the next gen, and what better way to kill the friendships we have made than to argue about something completely irrelevant to the real world.

My vote, X360, because I found myself enjoying the Xbox the most this gen, yeah PS3 had the JRPGs but as a whole they aren't doing so much for me anymore, and hey, quirky SEGA games are the bomb. Looking to the future, Elder Scrolls, God of War, and Team Ninja support are keen as well. Oh and can't forget Halo 3, best FPS series in ages.

microsoft whore

ive read Sony's supposed to lose some ground to M$ according to figures and such, but i do think Miyamoto shits brightly colored fun, and as any Nintendo loyalist will tell you, i shall smite my home country and commit seppuku with a penguin, somehow, should Miyamoto require this.

Donkey Kong, Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Kart, Earthbound, etc > any system's games, much less first-party.

Im a hardcore sega fan as they put a ton of horse power into their systems. If everything made sense in life I'd be a hardcore xbox fan but theyre games dont impress me much (though the graphics are insane). I see myself buying a ps3 in the near future... I still play my DC especially siince all the fighting ports were released for it and came out 100% perfectly ported from arcade ;) (RIP sega saturn X'-( I had all nintendo stuff until i saw that n64 games were 80$$$$$ a pop. I even have every gameboy generation released so far... I have to catch up on the megaman collection I have (games pertaining to the story only, ty very much ;) so ps3 all da way

Not a bad choice, and yeah, i was originally with Sega (since the Master System), if they ever jump back in the hardware game, ill supoort.

Dammit, i still think the Dreamcast was way better than it ever got credit for....its true, we didnt deserve Sega :muggin:

I'm one of those bastards who will probably end up owning all three eventually just to get some of the great games. I finally ended up getting all three of this generation's consoles not too long ago. I agree with Nick, though, Nintendo's exclusive games are better than most any other system's. Since Halo never really did much for me, I've got no reason to get 360 right away, and I don't see anything phenominally exciting in the near future of the PS3 so I'll probably end up getting the Revolution based solely on the fact that Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Pikmin, ect will soon be on their way.

X-box???? What's an X-box. Is that something you use to download porn. Anyway, it's hard to choose between the Revolution and the PS3. Nintendo has the best 1st party-games in the biz. Plus, we can download the old games we loved so much for a small price. Look how long it took the PS2 before all the great games came out. This time however sony is taking thier time to make sure everything is done right before they ship out the system. The PS2 felt rushed in order to beat everybody to the stores. We may only have to wait a few weeks for some killer games. Plus they have alot of support. I love RPGS and sony has a habit of pimping out RPGS every few weeks.

I think the problem the Dreamcast was it was easy to hack. So all people had to do was rent or borrow a game, burn it, and play. I can think of one guy who claims he was a big supporter of the system yet all he did was burn every game he got his hands on. I'm sure IC knows who I'm talking about. Thats what I think anyway.

yeah, im sure hacking played a factor, but again, Sony dropping PS2 news just in time for the Dreamcast realease did a number on them that i dont think they ever recovered from.

They tried so hard, even advertising the innovative titles......dammit.

TI disagree with your hack-theory... especially since DC didnt have a HD to store all the whored out games like a couple systems i wont mention that came after it.

bgjdhgladfPS2nkda.gdaXBOX*... o excuse me i seem to have sneezed allover my modified syste... i mean my keyboard :)

If you track back and notice that the development of the xbox and Segas move to 3rd party were almost announced simltaneously... I especialy remember because sega Saturns final game (literally) was released in 2000 imported of course ; the final fight rendered fighting game that no one bought.... long live capcom and sega saturn... RIP :)

So far I'm leanin' towards the PS3, but it really depends on the games. If Squenix and R* both remain loyal to Sony, I have no reason to convert. XBOX just isn't my type of system, since I'm first and foremost an RPG player (and no, Fable and Jade Empire don't count)...

First off IceMan, kudos to you not to many of us former saturn owners, that system kicked ass. I would have loved to have seen the LUnar games on them because I hear they were better than the PS versions.

Why praytell? They are RPGs, well, with Jade Empire and Fable, more action RPGs, Knights of the Old Republic i and II were great, probably my favorite RPGs of this generation.

Well, Nintendo has some great developers and lots of fan love, but I wonder how much of that is really going to matter in the end. I mean when big Nintendo games are years apart, it's hard to compete with a steady stream of titles on the other platforms.

Also have to wonder how important the playing old nintendo games is going to be? It seems like Nintendo has been milking that market to death over recent years, You had the Nintendo Classics series which was horribly overpriced, the Mario Advance series which was nothing new, Zelda has had all of its games rereleased recently. Even Mario DS was just Mario 64 all over again. What's honestly left? Not to mention I love playing my old games sometimes but for how long are you going to be able to tide people over with 20 year old games if not enough new ones are coming?

Yeah the PS2 has a lot of RPGs but a lot of them this gen have been ass. Also the X360 is going to have Mistwalker Studios on its side, which I figured would have all you Squeenix people salivating.

Onto the Dreamcast:

That was an amazing system that got raped for a few reasons, first was sadly, not enough mainstream hits, you can pretty much blame lack of EA support for that, people love their Madden.

Secondly you had Sony pimping the PS2 as if it would be the next revolution in everything, Toy Story Graphics, check, DVD, check, Katuragi saying that it's online experience would be like jacking into the Matrix, check. With the launch the PS2 had there is no way it should have succeeded. Sony Lied its ass off and everyone bought it.

Also if you're a hard core sega fan, dunno how you could not have an Xbox, Panzer Dragoon Orta is amazing, Gun Griffon is great if unforgiving, Jet Set Radio Future is just a blast to play and honestly miles ahead of the DC one. Whole lot of sega love on the box.

Theres a great write up on Next Gen. Magazine online about the console wars....

I think its going to be X Box 360 being better quality wise. While PS 3 will have the software varaiation and large selection of titles to back up the hardware and then lastly Nintendo retains the "loyalists" of their signature character games.

I voted Nintendo above... anyway. :) (Zelda TP)

That's it it's settled... I'm getting em all... :)

oh, bishop, you crazy bastard.

I too wish idve had a Saturn, despite the price...im still waitin to see if you ever find all the dics to Panzer Dragoon Saga, always wanted to play that one.

The Sega CD Lunar games - which you played through - were great, but id take the PS ones just to get around that fight with Borgan in part 2. Plus, the omake stuff was awesome.

Why praytell? They are RPGs, well, with Jade Empire and Fable, more action RPGs, Knights of the Old Republic i and II were great, probably my favorite RPGs of this generation.

i know we had this conversation, but....the man said RPGs by god, not the hack and slash adventure games (which i too love). True, i should check these out, cause for the longest time when you named them, i kept thinking they were MMORPG's.

Its a fair point, but i guess outside of Animal Crossing, i really hanvet played the retro stuff much...i had to go way outta my way to get that Zelda collection disc.

Access to the ROM library of NES games isnt a system-seller, but you gotta admit, its a cool-ass feature. and while Miyamoto & his team's classics take a while to come out, its not like the system's desolate in the meantime....again, for me, Paper Mario and Resident Evil 4 have really kept me going. Nintendo may not have the exclusive licenses it once did, but its not like Capcom or Konami arent still on board.

ps after Mario Sunshine, id really like to play a Mario 64-type game again, that was way more fun. AND PENGUINS!

Yeah the PS2 has a lot of RPGs but a lot of them this gen have been ass. Also the X360 is going to have Mistwalker Studios on its side, which I figured would have all you Squeenix people salivating.

blasphemy, there's been great RPGs for PS2. Also, whats a Mistwalker stuido?

I see what youre sayin, but its gonna take more to get me to purchase a whole other system. Panzer was gorgeous, Jet Set looks fun, i hear Toejam & Earl didnt do so hot, sadly, but i honestly think id need a whole new Phantasy Star, Shenmue, etc that calibur game to warrant the purchase, cause if i even go with 2 next-gen systems this go, im obviously a Nintendo ho, and PS3's a safer bet.

Oh I agree the PS versions were great, just he Saturn ones had better music and special effects. Think the PS version won out slightly on video quality though.

Oddly enough just finished the Borgan fight on my replay through the Sega CD versions, and it's wasn't that bad. God I hated it first time through though.

i know we had this conversation, but....the man said RPGs by god, not the hack and slash adventure games (which i too love). True, i should check these out, cause for the longest time when you named them, i kept thinking they were MMORPG's.

Well, now that I look at what I typed, they ARE RPGs, they just use an action based system to resolve combat. Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, Gauntlet, THOSE are hack and slash games. Hell no one says the Tales of... games aren't RPGs because they use an action based way to resolve combat.

Fable is just one character, Jade Empire has several characters though, and in both you build your character up as you progress, have uber magic spells, and a good storyline.

I think it's just that since everyone grew up on Japanese RPGs they have gotten protective of them or something. Like if it isn't Japanese it's not an RPG or something. Hell I don't see anyone saying Jak and Daxter isn't a platformer because it's not from Japan, and everyone grew up on Mario though, so who knows?

Its a fair point, but i guess outside of Animal Crossing, i really hanvet played the retro stuff much...i had to go way outta my way to get that Zelda collection disc.

I wouldn't say desolate, but it's not exactly overflowing with titles either. RE4 was awesome, I agree, and I loved the MGS remake, but overall, not so much. Then again, I hated the controls in Metroid Prime, so what do I know?

The Zelda collection kinda makes my point though, we've had that thing for like a year now and I don't think I have seen it get more than an hour of play. Angel (roommate not the guy debating in the politics forum.)) and I were psyched as hell when we heard about it too, it's just, well, there was other stuff to play.

Also, didn't understand you, did you like Sunshine or not?

blasphemy, there's been great RPGs for PS2. Also, whats a Mistwalker stuido?

There has, but a lot of them still are ass. One that have lived up to the overall quality of even the last gen for RPGs IMO would be FFX, Ys VI, and the Shin Megami Tenseis. I'd love to put Xenosaga on that list, but while I LOVE the story the gameplay is ass.

Mistwalker studios is the new studio founded by Sakaguchi Hironobu, the director of the Final Fantasy (X was his last one), he left with a ton of Squenix's best talent and founded it a couple of years back, he has 2 games in the works:

Blue Dagon: By a bunch of the Chrono Trigger team, including character deswigns by

Toriyama Akria. (Why am I listing lst name first today?) Supposed to have a lot to do with controlling shadows and stuff.

blue-dragon-20050513024343392.jpg

Next is Lost Odyssey which is a more mature looking title closer to the recent FFs which is about a man who has been alive for 1,000 years or some shit:

Other interesting square-enix stuff is that they are in the works for other X360 stuff than just FFXI, here's a tech demo that they made for the 360. Looks like the 360 will have its share of RPGs

Well, I loved me some Orta and Jet Set, not sure what's up and coming though rumors of some of the demos sega was showing behing closed doors are impressive.

youre right, i prolly am protective of japanese RPG's. Yahven tried to get me into Deus Ex, but i need more than just plot, i need characterization. Just wasnt feeling it.

Oh I agree the PS versions were great, just he Saturn ones had better music and special effects. Think the PS version won out slightly on video quality though.

I keep thinkin you mean Sega CD, cause i dont recall Saturn Lunars. That's like obscure divided by obscure.

Also, didn't understand you, did you like Sunshine or not?

Eh...i did, and i didnt. Level design got to me...how much fucking beach am i gonna play on? I longed for 64, where i went from a ghost house to a desert to underwater, i like varying locales.

Good info, im gonna keep an eye on those projects, god knows anything with "Chrono" team attatched sparks my interest.

Hey, since were goin off topic anyway, did you ever play X-box Toejam & Earl? Was it as bad as reviewers said?
