  1. Well, they've dropped Mickey's Nunchuks before. In the 80's series, they dropped them at some point, maybe mid-way through the series, and he started using a grappling hook that looked like a turtle shell. Used to bother the hell out of me as a kid. At some point I looked into it and apparently it was because they couldn't show him using the 'chuks in the UK and had to edit out any scenes that had them. Eventually they switched his weapon so they wouldn't have to bother anymore. Actually, when I saw the designs for Rise, one of my first thoughts was that his new weapon was actually an homage to that grappling hook from the 80's show.
  2. Some other things to put into perspective: 1. The current estimates put this weekend's haul at $108 million. The first Avergers movie "only" made $103 million in it's second weekend. 2. Age of Ultron is the 2nd highest grossing MCU movie. Black Panther will more than likely overtake it during it's third weekend. Taking the #2 spot is a forgone conclusion at this point, but folks, I think there's a strong possibility that this might eclipse Avengers as the #1 grossing MCU movie. Despite a slightly lower opening, it's currently outpacing Avengers, crossing the $400 million barrier four days faster than Avengers did. How crazy is this?!? And to think I was genuinely concerned that renewed racial tensions in Trump's America would hurt this film at the box office... Don't be surprised if the next MCU film gets renamed Black Panther and The Avengers: Infinity War
  3. Started the first episode, but had to cut it off when the fam came home (not appropriate watching for our 2 year old). Seems they are following pretty close to the book, at least to start off. I'm a fan of the novel (although I still haven't gotten around to the other two parts of the trilogy, Broken Angels or Woken Furies) and I'm digging what I see so far. I was worried when I heard Joel Kinnaman had been cast as Kovacs, not only because of his prior track record (see Robocop 2014 and Suicide Squad) but also because of recent white-washing controversies that we saw with GiTS and Iron Fist. I was sure casting him as a character named Takeshi was going to stir up that pot again, and the "he was white in the book" defense doesn't really hold given that race is rather inconsequential in the world of the story. They easily could had changed up the race of the main character with no impact on the story. That said, Kinnaman has been pretty arresting from what I've seen so far! Another early impression, the production values are well above what I'd expect for a TV series. Having just seen the first episode of Electric Dreams (which looks like a middle of the road SyFy original series in terms of production) there was definitely a stark contrast. Looking forward to watching some more of this one!
  4. It's that time of year again! I didn't even attempt this challenge in 2017 (and my backlog has grown even more massive) but I think I'm going to try to get back on the wagon this year! How's everyone else's backlog's looking?
  5. Funko Pops are over guys. This one won. You can all go home now...
  6. It's free for Amazon Instant Video for Prime members right now. Its also out on bluray/dvd but I don't know if it's on any other streaming service right now
  7. Jesus Christ...just finished Brawl in Cell Block 99. It takes its sweet time to get going but GOD DAMN the last 20 minutes or are a kick in the fuckin' teeth! Definately a throwback to 70's era exploitation with some elements of a western dashed in. Also, it has some of the most cringe inducing instances of violence and gore that I've seen in a long time. Not for everyone, but I really dug it!
  8. I stuck with it. I don't remember it being awful, and I remember genuinely liking parts of it. True Detective season 2 committed three crimes in my eyes: Having to follow Season 1 at all (which set an hard to meet bar), Rushing production to capitalize on the success of Season 1, and almost entirely dropping the occult angle that helped differentiate Season 1 from typical police procedurals. There were a few plot points that dipped their toes into the occult, but they were dangling threads from the original intended direction for season 2. I'm good for another go, and hopefully they can recapture some of the magic that made Season 1 special.
  9. I've got this one at home. Haven't found a place for it yet. Poses are less dynamic, but it's more complete and it's got ya boi.
  10. I did a double feature of Creep 1 and 2 a couple of weeks ago. Great to watch both back to back. I wasn't even sure how you'd do a Creep 2 without being derivative, but the way they approached it was brilliant.
  11. As of last night, I'm at around 618 moons. I too took my time in each world on the original run, so many great places to just sit and explore. Now I'm hitting them all up again doing clean up and... I'm hoping we see an Odyssey 2 (or whatever they call the next mainline 3D entry) with a sooner than normal turnaround. Chances are probably pretty good for that too considering that Nintendo blew their load this year and now has a record breaking install base to keep happy.
  12. I understand this sentiment, but I'm not sure if it's entirely true. The prequel trilogy did irrepricable damage to Darth Vader, and the mythos of the force via midichlorians. Also, if your wife had issues with the state of Han and Leia in Episode VII, Luke's state is going to hit her hard!
  13. There was supposed to be an ellipses after my previous post.
  14. Stumbled on an amazing moment the other night:
  15. Saw this the other night and...
  16. Oh man, I watched the series ages ago, but I still haven't gotten around to watching Rebellion!
  17. It really bothers me that Thanos looks like he's stopping by to pick up an Infinity Stone on his way home from the fucking gym...
  18. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is a big fan of the property and has been vying to helm an adaptaton, for 4 or 5 years. Skull Island was competent and enjoyable, so I have a modicum of hope that this will be handled with a level of respect for the source material we don't usually see with game to film adaptations. Not a fan of Derek Connolly's scripts (Jurassic World was complete trash), but reportedy Vogt-Roberts has had potential screen writers come to his house to actually play MGS entries so again, I'm somewhat hopeful.
  19. There was an infinity figure of the little dude so you should know this! According to Wikipedia it was allegedly called "The Good Dinosaur", but I never even saw so much as a trailer for it.
