  1. Read this off Trueachievements.com a couple minutes ago.

In a press release issued today, Warner Brothers Interactive has confirmed that NetherRealm Studios' upcoming version of Mortal Kombat has been refused classification by the Australian Classification Board, which is effectively the kiss of death for a game to be released to gamers down under.

The official statement from Warner Brothers Interactive reads as follows:

The highly anticipated video game Mortal Kombat, published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) in Australia, has been refused classification by the Australian Classification Board and will not release in Australia. We are extremely disappointed that Mortal Kombat, one of the world's oldest and most successful video games franchises, will not be available to mature Australian gamers.

WBIE would not market mature content where it is not appropriate for the audience. We understand that not all content is for every audience, but there is an audience for mature gaming content and it would make more sense to have the R18+ classification in Australia. As a member of the iGEA, WBIE is reviewing all options available at this time.

While this news is very unfortunate for Australian gamers, it is not out of the norm. Unfortunately, the list of banned games for the country is quite extensive.

Mortal Kombat is set for an April 19th release in the States and Canada while Europe gets it at midnight on "Mortal Monday", April 18th.

My condolences to our friends in oz.

  2. Update on Nick's link.

Update: Hewlett’s son, Denholm, posted the following on Gorillaz-Unofficial: “Hey everyonee, listen, i just spoke to my dad and told him about this, and he said its rubbish, they have kinda fallen out, just not about the reasons stated above in the article, they’re just taking time apart from each other to work on other projects. gorillaz are not gunna split up, its fine.”

    Phew!

  3. It's a damn shame Speed Racer did so poorly. I loved that film. One of the few times I've gone to the movies alone, cause no one else wanted to see it. Saw it during the first week and sadly it was like a private screening.

Agree with Nick that Matrix 1.0 was this generations star wars. It created a universe and mythos that was so rich. Unfortunately the wachowskis pulled the plug with the very next movie (i don't believe that either reloaded or revolutions stands on its own as a film, it's why I hate the ill-concieved, first one did well so lets do two more back to back, 'trilogies' of today).

While I would love a return to grace for the franchise, I can't help but think that this is the wachowskis with thier tail between thier legs, rather than them having a genuine idea and drive to add more to the universe they created.

  4. To be honest, I didn't find it, per se, but I did find it. Jon (CUSpacecowboy) was calling me off the hook to tell me about it. He hadn't seen anything on it yet, but had heard stuff. I went searching far and wide (YouTube) til I FINALLY found it.

And I just finally got around to seeing the teasers. My interest is piqued.

  5. the-warriors-way-movie-poster.jpg

damn fun movie. kinda cheesy, but charming and action packed

I actually watched this twice in the theater. First time was on a whim with my girlfriend and a friend of her's that was in town, and I knew very little going in, which is strange in and of itself for me as I tend to keep abreast with even the most obscure films.

The entire time watching I was looking over my shoulders to see if anyone else was struck by the surrealness of the film. I felt like somehow, upon entering the darkened theater, I had slipped into some alternate reality. There are SO MANY disperate elements thrown together in this film that by all rights it should be a complete disaster. It is SUCH an incredible trainwreck of a movie but I mean that in the best possible way. Throughout the movie I asking myself "How on EARTH does this film exhist!!"

Seriously, this film is a diamond it the rough. It has a warmth and heart that are hard to explain and made me forgive some of the downright BIZARRE elements. It's like some twisted gory fairy tale. At times it evokes The Matrix, and then in another scene it evokes Gone with the Wind.

And to those of you that I have to appeal to on the lowest common denominator I can sum the movie up in one sentence.

    "Ninjas vs. Cowboys vs. Clowns"

It that doesn't get you in the theater, nothing will!!

    Also......

    black-swan-poster.jpg

Saw Black Swan last night. Incredible, and also fucking TERRIFYING! I am convinced Aronofsky is some kind of psychic vampire who has devised a way to suck people life force via celluloid. Black Swan, like all of his movies, left me emotionally exhausted. I had high expectations going in and I can say they were surpassed by wide margins. Wolverine is going to be fucking incredible!!

  6. DOUBLE FEATURE!!!

Troll 2 and Best Worst Movie!

    Troll2.jpg

    Bestworstmovie.jpg

It had been YEARS since I saw Troll 2, and wow, I forgot/didn't realize when I was a kid how BAAAAD that movie is. I mean like UN-FRIGGIN-BELIEVEABLE bad. Like, you couldn't do worst if you tried. However, this film is the EPITOMY of "So-bad-its-Good"-ness and is definately a MUST WATCH!

Enter Best Worst Move. A new documentary by the child actor from the film, about the film and its relatively recent cult resurgence.

I was really disarmed by Best Worst Movie. It's surprisingly poignant and a delightfully bittersweet journey. Check it out!

  7. Finally got back into Trials and Tribulations (I was a little ways into the last trial). Actually had to refer to a guide because I was in the middle of an investigation and had NO RECOLLECTION of what I was doing. Man, love these games. Apollo's up next. Did the Miles Edgeworth games ever come stateside??

  8. Anyone else catch season 5 ep 1 yet? Slow starter, and maybe the

constant flashes back to Rita/Dexter courtship were overly sentimental & needless backfil before they show some teeth, and maybe Dexter attacking a random gentleman in the bathroom is just fucking strange & uncharacteristically sloppy, was worth it for Harry's 'acknowledgement' though.

I have high hopes for this season, but it was a definite fumble @ the whistle.

Saw it Sunday night. Was a very 'Meh' episode, but I think this was not really the start of the new season, but rather a

segway to season 5/memorial episode for Rita. I don't think they could have just jumped forward as usual due to the significance of her death.

  9. HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!

    Berserk.jpg

The wraparound jacket band on the 35th volume of Kentarou Miura's Berserk fantasy manga is announcing this month that a new anime project is launching. More information will be provided in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine and the affiliated Young Animal Web site.

    Here's the link!!!

I don't think we can get any more reliable a source than the friggin' cover of volume 35 in japan!!

  10. I think that's one of the things that has me ticked off, did this series NEED a reboot? Capcom and Ninja Theory are being coy, no doubt placating the fans, and saying 'We get to see how Dante becomes the Dante we know and love.'

But if it's a reboot, this is new canon, so he's not going to become the Dante we know and love.

Honestly, I think they just need to keep thier mouths shut and let the game speak for itself at this point. The more Capcom and Ninja Theory try to explain themselves, the worse it gets.

  11. pretty sure that turned out to be an elaborate fan project or something else? we got posts about it in the anime forum.

did Dark Horse completely catch up yet? i haven't checked in a while, latest i have is early into volume 35.

Dark Horse just released Volume 34 on September 15th. There's no date for volume 35, hell, 35 is not even out in Japan. It looks like we're in for year long waits between volumes from now on....

  12. The drill was useless, and the gameplay was a bit better in that I was actually forced to do real combat.

Man, everybody keeps hating on the drill. I did a brass balls/hard run on my first and only playthrough and all I used was the drill. Stock up on the drill tonics, especially the freezing drill one, and you could tear anything to shreds!! Big Daddies and Big Sisters? No problem! Only thing I used ammo for were the gathers.

On the subject of Bioshock Infinite though, WOW. As much as I liked Bioshock 2 (hey, for a game that was clearly 2K just milking a good thing, it was damned good!) Infinite is the sequel we should have had all along. A kind of spiritual successor, rather than a traditional sequel. Love the courage to take a world that was truly unique and compelling, both in visuals and theme (Rapture) and ditch it to make what, so far, seems to be an equally compelling, yet totally different, in style and theme, world (Columbia). I'm sold. Bravo.
