  1. Achually... it's not far fetched theory by any means.
  2. Axels tells no lies. Four of us went tonight and no one really liked it. No one outright hated it either, but the only thing that kept me entertained was that my date was looking up Jeff Goldblum memes on her phone and showing me. We also MST3K'd throughout the whole thing. Yeah, we were those people. And I'm not even ashamed because the movie was that ridiculously bad. I fully went in expecting a dumb popcorn movie--but what I got was probably worse than Rampage. They're doing with JW what Disney is doing with Star Wars--soft reboots. This had the same basic plot as JP2, but was on par with JP3 as far as quality; JW2 also has criminally less Goldblum than JP2. I mean, the trailer makes it look like Ian Malcolm is gonna feature heavy in the film and Goldblum did a lot of press for this film, so my expectations were dashed when he had essentially a cameo. Add thirty seconds on to the trailer and you've got your sum total of Goldblum in JW2.
  3. Got MoviePass, so it's my goal to see pretty much every film I can in the theater before they go under. Here are a few quick takes... Rampage: i like a good dumb popcorn film, but this wasn't one. please do not pay money to see this. Upgrade: solid sci-fi. felt like a really great episode of Black Mirror. Ocean's 8: i love a good heist movie and the casting is pretty epic, but I found it unfunny, poorly paced, and all around disappointing. watch Logan Lucky instead. TAG: i expected a fun, dumb comedy and it delivered. the end was even surprisingly heartfelt.
  4. This is very, very true. You know that a legit wedding like that in episode two would've have fleur-de-lis all over the place. I'm surprisingly not finding the pace that slow at all. I'm hooked on these characters and their motivations. I like how they're not just automatically a couple, each has someone else in their lives romantically, and T&T are slowly growing together. Looks like episode four is gonna be the first one in which the two main characters are going to have a real conversation with each other yet I'm not mad because it feels organic. Even the two dream sequences in S1E3 tied back nicely into plot points. And I usually fucking hate dream sequences in TV/film. This show definitely has a solid writing staff.
  5. Also, no one once ever honked a horn incessantly at a traffic light on Dexter. Nor did a server once ever speak Spanish when taking a food order. I don't recall the mountainous beach scene, but that's pretty bad. It reminds me of Jackie Chan's Rumble in the Bronx where they had wide shots of "NYC" with mountains in the back ground. smh But back to Cloak & Dagger--if a character doesn't mention the Saints and/or use the word "y'all" unironically in a legit accent by episode 5 I might cry. Example, "Y'all heard about dem Saints?" (Guarantee someone mentions gumbo twice by episode five though. smh)
  6. I loved this book in high school. And even with two of my current favorite actors in the lead I can't get excited for this film. It has a very strong sense of "meh" about it. The fact I've had zero "buzz" about it cross my path in almost a month doesn't bode well either. I will end up watching this one day out of a feeling of obligation rather than interest. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised and it'll turn out to be good.
  7. HA! Funny you should mention that because today I was talking to someone about my second visit to Miami and how Dexter was all lies. S1E3 of Cloak & Dagger did feel a bit more legit NOLA though. Zero people were called a "townie," so that's a plus right there.
  8. I had zero interest in Cloak & Dagger based on the trailer and my minimal exposure to the characters in comics as guest appearances in story arcs for other Marvel titles I read. However, Jax messaged me a week ago asking if I was watching the show. I told him no, and he mentioned it was set in New Orleans and that I should watch it. He also wanted to know how "authentic" it felt in terms of the setting in New Orleans. Well, sadly, the show feels about as New Orleans as clam chowder. It's absolutely filmed there, but nothing from the dialogue, characters, or plot feel the least bit New Orleans. That being said--it was a pretty damn good show. I've seen the first two episodes on Hulu and the cast & writing is solid. Roxxon as the "big bad" is a great Marvel tie-in and the two main characters have good chemistry. I honestly can't recall the origins from the comic, but they're given a solid connection/origin story in the pilot episode. The only other complaint I have is that the pop song mood music is laid on a little too thick. All in all, I was very pleasantly surprised by this show and will continue to watch.
  9. Damn this was a great show. Panch is right to warn that the pacing on this bad boy is slooooow. But it really fits the narrative. I'm a fan of British naval exploration tales in general, so the fact this was all based on a true story was really intriguing to me. I binged it over about a week because after every episode I'd watch all the extras on the AMC website and spend a good amount of time online researching and reading about the ships, their successors, the novel, etc. However, after having finished the series, I do wish I would've read the book first as there are some key elements (namely the ending) that I likely would've enjoyed a whole lot more in the book had the series not spoiled it.
  10. I've stated before that I'm not a big fan of horror films, but I do dig a good thriller/suspense film now and then. I think that's why I dug A Quiet Place. Normally I'd skip a film like Hereditary based on the trailer, but I've got MoviePass, so it's basically free to watch. I'm definitely more curious to see it now after reading some of the posts in here. I might give it a look after I knock out Ocean's 8, Hotel Artemis, and Incredibles ii.
  11. I didn't know anything about the interview or Tambor's outburst until I was done with the 8 episodes. It certainly doesn't help things when looking back on the episodes. Walters & Tambor have an odd energy in their S5.1 scenes. In the show they're kinda getting divorced, and George (at the risk of spoilers) isn't quite his normal self. However, maybe (Maebe?) their on air weirdness and lack of scenes had more to do with off air occurrences. It's hard to say if not watching S5 will make any difference whatsoever, @Donatella. Netflix is notorious for keeping their "ratings" a secret. And since they got rid of the star rating system we can't see what other users think of a show/film. The other 8 episodes are ordered and likely being shot. And Netflix already has your money as a subscriber, so probably the best way to show your dislike of what went down would be to cancel and make reasons known on social media or to send an email or both.
  12. Finally caught the first 8 episodes of S5, and they were...okay. The season was definitely hindered by the casts lack of availability, and the weird shots of actors shot from the back with stand-ins are used so often that they're maybe (Maebe?) meant as an actual gag, but I found them off putting. Speaking of Maebe, she's the best part about S5 thus far and got the biggest and most consistent laughs from me. Buster's plotline is a close second. George Michael also has a decent storyline. Tobias & GOB really just had one joke throughout the whole season that kept being repeated in slightly different ways, which sometimes worked but more often didn't. Lucille & George are pretty forgettable. Lindsey is practically non-existent and Michael is still the thread that kind of ties the whole thing together. I hope the back 8 episodes of S5can salvage storylines and hopefully send this series out on a high note. It feels like it's reached its expiration date.
  13. Oh man, this looks great! I gotta say though, absolutely nothing about this came up in my Netflix feed. I mean, I watch tons of docs on Netflix and I've seen every episode of Toys that Made Us (and some episodes more than once) so you'd think the "Netflix algorithm" would've recommended this doc for me of all people. Take some of that money your throwing at any comedian with a podcast and instead hire a few programmers to update yer bloody algorithms, Netflix! /end old man rant Anyway, I'm glad you posted about it and I'm looking forward to seeing this doc.
  14. Eh. I've been following Nemo's posts in here and I don't think that's the message he's delivering or the one anyone with an open and rational mind would construe from his collective posts either. I feel like what you and @The NZA are hearing from @Little Nemo McFly must be sounding a lot like this guy from Geeks+Gamers. However, what I'm hearing from Nemo is closer to this guys commentary on SOLO--which around the 4:10 mark leads back to TLJ. And I think it's a fairly reasonable set of observations on the SW fandom and last two films.
  15. Yeah, when I saw this in the theater I had no idea that was Winter Soldier/Bucky as Jeff Gillooly. The whole cast delivered great performances. I forget the name of the guy who played Gillooly's friend, but he was hilarious. Saw Action Point tonight and it was awful. I was expecting a fun, raunchy 70s style comedy in the vain of National Lampoon or Meatballs, but it was not even close to those films. I also thought way more of the OG Jackass crew would be in the film, but it was just Knoxville & Pontius. And pretty much all the real "stunts" they did were in the trailer. I recommend giving this one a pass. ?
  16. How's Morgan on S4? He was wearing kinda thin in the back end of TWD S8.
  17. Academy Award Winner Jamie Foxx is . . . SPAWN! Yeah. I can dig it. SPAWN Directed by Todd McFarlane. ? I've got a bad feeling about this.
  18. Well, if box office is any indicator, that'll be sooner than even you may have thought. Like, in two months. ?
  19. Again, I'd be more surprised than not if TWD wrapped up anytime soon. They paved the way for the series to go beyond the Grimes family with Fear TWD, and they showed this season that the Grimes name does not guarantee you won't die. If Andrew Lincoln is leaving the series then my guess is that doesn't mean the show goes away with him. Maybe... Speaking of Fear TWD, I'm alomst finished S3 and it's a helluva lot better than I expected it to be. Much better overall than S8 of TWD. Kudos to @Da Cap'n 2099 who I recall sticking with the show as it aired and praising S3 over the horrid S1 & S2. Anyone watching the current S4 of FTWD?
  20. I was one of the people who was against a film like this from the get-go. Give me a Yoda trilogy or a Boba Fett film, but just let Harrison Ford's Han Solo stand as the only Han we need. That coupled with the tumultuous production had me legitimately expecting a full on dumpster fire of a film. But then the trailers dropped and my expectations went from dumpster fire to possibly not horrible. And what I was pleasantly surprised to see in the theaters last week was a rather mediocre film. Reactions all over have pretty much been "meh" for this film. You've got extremist fanboys on the left who say this was worse than TLJ (To quote Luke. "That's impossible!") and those SW Celebration lifetime pass having zombies on the right who love it because they love anything with a Star Wars logo on it. Technically it's done okay for an action film at the box office thus far, but in reality it's a bomb for a Star Wars film.
  21. S5 Finale Ehhhh...it was aaight. I'm so glad this wasn't the series finale though. I hope they're able to do justice to these character in the 13 episodes of S6 and go out with a bang.
  22. Agreed on all accounts except for the spoiler--I was the only one. ? Even though it wasn't as good as the first one I feel like it's worth seeing twice. Way too many jokes and references to catch on just one viewing. The opening credits alone warrant seeing it again on home video.
  23. Thi I liked how the 2011 reboot tried to bring in old and new Thundercats fans alike, and I was sad to see it so abruptly canceled. I guess the merchandising wasn't what they expected, but in fairness to the show it was entering a crowded market. I think toys are selling fine (Marvel and WWE stuff especially) but it's not like back in the day where a few brands have the Lion-O share of the market. Literally every show now has merchandise, so attentions and budgets get stretched. Funko is pretty much to the 2010s as Kenner was to the 1980s. But I digress. This 2019 version seems squarely aimed at the CN core audience of 12 and under. Kids twelve and up are watching more and more anime, and I feel like Netflix is huge competition for CN, so they're going with a safe bet here by rebranding Thundercats as a comedy-adventure show. Good luck to them, and I'll give the first episode a shot--but it's likely gonna be hard pass for me on this new version.
  24. Yuss! Hopefully S2 brings us Voltron and WWF/WWE, as I believe those are the biggest "boy" brands from the 80s that are left. I'm guessing My Little Pony, Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake & maybe even Jem would be left for the 80s "girl" brands. Oh, and they have to do a Care Bears episode!, right? You can't mention 80s toys w/out the freakin' Care Bears. (Throw in a Gummi Bears segment while you're at it, Netflix!) If this series continues (Six seasons and a movie, Netflix!!!) I hope some of the shorter lived 80s brands like M.A.S.K., Sectaurs, Captain Power, Rock Lords, Teddy Ruxpin, etc., and the film franchise spin-offs (Batman, Rambo, RoboCop, Chuck Norris, Police Academy, etc.) get episodes before they move into the 90s stuff.
  25. There's a lot in your above post I agree with, but fundamentally I think this hits it for so many of the OG Trilogy fans--those people whose first experience with SW predated the prequels. People who had waited up to 30 years to see the protagonist they loved finally return to the screen. And this is how they treat him? It's fucking sad and gross. Sad that no one could stop Rian Johnson's misguided vision and gross that Kathleen Kennedy & Co. would double down on how wrong they were by jerking each other off on their piles of cash from the opening weeks and gloating about how "brilliant" TLJ was. So great that he needs his own trilogy! I have a small kernel of hope that JJ Abrams and the Kasdans are smart enough to redeem Luke in some sort of way for Episode IX. On that third watch of TLJ, I really put the complete dislike for the handling of Luke aside (it only took about five months to be able to do that) and tried to watch it just as a film--and it was as I stated earlier, just a tedious mess. Now that aspect alone didn't create my distaste for the film--I think much of the prequels are boring. It's the handling of Luke. I won't go into my problems with that again here, as you covered much of it already and I'd just be preaching to the choir.
