  1. Just finished episode six and I agree with MH--so good! I absolutely love film noir and sci-fi; this show melds the two genres seamlessly and beautifully. I'll wait until I finish the series before I call it as superior to Bladerunner & Bladerunner 2049, but it is on that track.
  2. Black Panther is a good superhero movie with tinges of some very relevant social commentary. It tiresomely retreads some MCU themes (fathers & sons; dealing with power) but overall it delivers on what you'd expect from an MCU film at this point. (Well, with less overt attempts at humor.) It also gives Wonder Woman a run for its money in terms of number of heroines on screen. Danai Gurira, Forest Whitaker, & Sterling K. Brown all also give great performances. SK Brown was phenomenal actually. He's in only two scenes, but they're pivotal. And his performance is just so pure and real. Chadwick Boseman does a good enough job in the titular role; his T'challa is very diplomatic, contemplative, and understanding. But that danger and gravitas that the T'challa I know from the comics (Illuminati T'challa) just doesn't come across on screen for me. Now, someone might say that this Black Panther is lacking in those departments due to his newness in his position as king; however, I saw a much more fearsome and formidable Panther/T'challa in Civil War than I did in Black Panther. So I know the character and actor is capable of delivering on screen more than I saw in this film. And that's frustrating as a moviegoer and MCU fan. Bottom line is it's a great addition to the MCU and definitely worth seeing on the big screen.
  3. Okay, so is this a theory or was it an actual reveal in the episode?
  4. @Lolrelei I agree with Nza, you should definitely watch Cap2: Winter Soldier. It's just a solid action/thriller in addition to having superheroes/villains. Plus, ya know, it'll clear up that whole "WTF is a WInter Soldier" issue you had with Civil War.
  5. Black Mirror S4This was probably the most disappointing season of the series for me overall. Half of the episodes (Crocodile, Arkangel, and Metalhead) had me actually bored. As a Star Trek fan I loved the season opener with "U.S.S. Callister," and it's my favorite episode of the season. "Hang the DJ" was interesting and had fantastic performances, but it lacked a certain gravitas that it needed to be something as great as "San Junipero" from S3. And "Black Museum" was really interesting, but it felt like something that should be be a series and not a season finale. "Black Museum" spoilers:
  6. Well, the tone of the article would have you think so. But really this is a promotion for Gimple. He's not getting "Darabont-ed." A while back AMC announced they want TWD to be a decades long franchise similar to Star Trek. Gimple is basically becoming the Rodenberry, or a more accurate comparison might be the Ronald Moore of the AMC TWD universe. Season 8 is coming back on Feb. 25.
  7. Damnit, you know what this means--these fuckers are gonna have three Star Wars films out before GRRM finishes book six of SOIAF.
  8. Or just made it about Han's dad...Dan Solo.
  9. I'm just fanboying over here for the LOST/Wasp tie-in. Disney owns both. Get Lindelof a three season deal where he connects the two and Jack is an alternate dimension Hank Pym.
  10. Genero on toilet > Bare chested Goldblum Also contenders for a wave2: Mr. DNA, Dodgson...we need Dodgson here!*
  11. Good point. Maybe they're gonna do a second wave? Both kids are missing, too. If they did only one wave you'd think the kids in the JP Explorer would be the way to go for the vehicle.
  12. How did we not have a forkin' thread for this show already!? S1 was one of the greatest sitcom seasons of all time. All.Time. S2 has been surprisingly solid. Really dug the latest episode...
  13. B&N had a slew of these on sale for $5. Picked up Locke from LOST and Darlene & Mr. Robot from, well, Mr. Robot. Also picked up Bob Ross a while back as well as Elle from Stranger Things--both the wigged and un-wigged(?) versions. I'm up to 24 POP Vinyl figs now. It's...getting to be an issue.
  14. This looks fantastic. Can't wait to see it. Thanks for the recommendation as this one flew completely under my radar.
  15. Big Marvel is your favorite channel on YouTube you haven't subscribed to yet. I almost put this in the awful music thread, but there's just too much awesome here for that.
  16. @Little Nemo McFly I watched the Barbie episode on Christmas Eve with two of my nieces. I had no idea these toymakers were so damn catty. It was an entertaining episode on several levels. I also had a friend text high praise for this doc after he saw the Star Wars episode, so I'm sure I'll get to the whole damn series eventually.
  17. @The NZAI listened to TPAB once when it first dropped, not even all the tracks the whole way through. I just couldn't be bothered with giving it a chance. There's just so much music out there, new stuff every day, and so little time. Now I'm easing into GK,MC and Damn but I'll have to give TPAB another try. It's just refreshing to hear some new hip-hop that doesn't have rhymes that make me cringe or roll my eyes. You know you're getting old when "old school" hip-hop is now stuff that dropped in 2002. smh
  18. @Axels on point with r&m and that bill finger doc, too. panchy be like...
  19. @DonutellaNo lie, I'm jealous of y'all for seeing Phil Collins. (Please tell me he did all the hits.) @The NZA I heard an interview with Kendrick Lamar recently and became more interested in him as an artist. I know some stuff from DAMN., but I started giving his older album (Good Kid, MAAD City) a listen and dig it. Also, @Da Cap'n 2099 on point with that Rick&Morty.
  20. Now that a few have posted theirs I'll share mine... What was your favorite live event (concert, sporting event, play, festival, convention, etc.) you attended in 2017? For now it’d be seeing Stevie Wonder at Jazz Fest. But if the Saints beat the Falcons on Christmas Eve in the Dome then that’s gonna be my new #1. Favorite musical artist of 2017? System of A Down—I’m not sure why, but I reconnected with their stuff in a big way this year. What song did you hit “repeat” on the most in 2017?“New York” by St. Vincent (“Feel It Still” by Portugal The Man is a close runner-up) Favorite book and/or comic you read in 2017? TWD Issue #167 because it’s the last appearance of one of my favorite characters. As for novels, one of my favorite books, Jack London’s Call of the Wild, was added back to our curriculum and I really enjoyed teaching it again. Favorite TV show you binge watched in 2017? Legion S1, Stranger Things 2 was a close second. Favorite TV show you watched week to week in 2017? Game of Thrones S7 Favorite animated series of 2017? Rick & Morty (Technically it’s my favorite show I binged because I did so with S1 & S2, and also my favorite show I watched week to week, which was S3.) Favorite animated film of 2017? The Lego Batman Movie Favorite documentary of 2017? This was a tough one. Batman & Bill on Hulu gets the top spot because I’m such a huge Batman fan, but Chasing Coral on Netflix was equally superb. Favorite comedy film of 2017? The Disaster Artist, hands down. No contest. Favorite action and/or sci-fi film of 2017? Thor: Ragnarok for action and Blade Runner 2049 for sci-fi. Favorite drama and/or romance film of 2017? Three Billboards… for best drama (although I really struggled with not putting Logan here) and even though it was a 2016 film, I didn’t see La La Land until 2017, and it was probably the only romance film I saw all year, but I did see it twice Favorite video game of 2017? I’m not a big gamer, so forgive me for being late to the party with Skyrim. I discovered it this summer with my nephew and love it. Favorite YouTube channel in 2017? Hot Ones with Sean Evans. Best interview show going. Even if I don’t know or particularly care about the people being interviewed, watching them deal with extremely hot chicken wings is endlessly entertaining. What’s your favorite/most used app on your smartphone in 2017? Facebook. Sad but true. Like most people, Mark’s got me firmly by the Zuckerbergs. Who is the one entertainer that died in 2017 you’d bring back? (There can be only one!) Adam West. He’s the first Batman I ever knew, and still one of the best. What was your 2017 like as depicted in emojis or a single .gif?
  21. Seventeen questions about your year in entertainment. What was your favorite live event (concert, sporting event, play, festival, convention, etc.) you attended in 2017? Favorite TV show you watched week to week in 2017? Favorite animated series of 2017? Favorite animated film of 2017? Favorite documentary of 2017? Favorite comedy film of 2017? Favorite action and/or sci-fi film of 2017? Favorite drama and/or romance film of 2017? Favorite video game of 2017? Favorite YouTube channel in 2017? 22. So I just finished S1E6. Krill, Klingons. One species all black, one all white. I see what you're doing Seth Macfarlane. And I surprisingly don't mind one bit. I still wish this series had a more polished feel to its writing, but all the homages to ST:TNG are just like candy coated crack for my fanboy soul, so I can't be mad at it. It's like the CW DCEU--it is what it is. You either take it or leave it. I also dug the cameos in S1E4 & E5. Speaking of which...
  23. Damn, Gina! And someone actually upvoted that aggro, snipey shit? Yeesh. So much for fostering a more welcoming atmosphere at Hondo's.
