  1. Umm, I didn't like Shrek either. Wasn't that it was "popular," it just got too much hype. I expected a lot and then when I saw it, i didn't laugh once either. Also they used the John Kale version of "Hallelujah." That song should NEVER be used in a comedy EVER. Not even a romantic comedy! It's a great fucking song and they tried toruin it! I'm also not a huge fan of the new computer animation. It feels like the opening graphics to a child's learning video game. Also, while I recognize that it was supposed to be silly, I don't know, call me crazy, but I really hate blatant anachronisms in movies that are supposed to take place "Once upon a time." I guess, mainly it's the American accents that bug me. That's a personal pet peeve, I don't expect anyone to agree with me. (Same reason I can't watch Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Since when does a noble from Yorkshire sound like Kevin Costner? ) Sorry Jax, I also did not like The Matrix. I didn't HATE it. I didn't even really dislike it all that much, I just can't stand listening to a bunch of people who think it taught them the "meaning of life." Okay, so it's not really the movie itself that pissed me off: It's the mega-fans. The next time I meet a white cap wearing, Dave Matthews listening, Wrangler driving frat boy, who's only concept of philosophy of any type is The Matrix, I might have to give him a swift kick to his luggage. Another problem is that while I don't despise this film, I also didn't love it like most other people do. It's annoying when you go to someone's house to smoke and watch a movie, and they're playing the same fucking movie you've seen like a million times but you don't really dig that much. Finally GLADIATOR?!?!? That was the biggest piece of shit I've ever seen (well, not truly, but I really hated it). The fact that Crowe actually won an Oscar for that (much like Paltrow in Shakespeare in Love, the OTHER biggest piece of shit) makes the Academy Awards nothing more than a few hours of comedy every year for me. That's better than Braveheart? I know I'm biased because of my affection for Scotland, but shit, I can't think of a single thing in Gladiator that was better than Braveheart. So 2track what do YOU hate about Gladiator?
  2. Sorry Jax, I have to go with Chiefy here, Dark Side of the Moon. I mean when Time comes on you're ready to rock anyhow and from then on you're in some bizarro world story. Wish you were here is great though. By the way, anyone ever tried watching The Wizard of Oz synchronised with Dark Side? It actually does work, and it's pretty weird. Unfortuately, the film is longer than the album, so 3/4 of the way through you're left hanging with a choice: Turn the volume up and shatter the mood, or shut the movie off and be left unsatisfied. Hey 2track: "Plain or BQ?"
  3. We can get back to drug music if you insist. But I think my opinion has been covered here. "Atomic" by Blondie is great for amphetamines...Don't know from personal experience, but a crystal-meth whore said so once. I like the song, but I always thought it went better with alcohol
  4. "Will anyone tell me why I smoke these goddamned things?" "Cause you're an idiot." "Oh yeah!" "You two..." "Heather, what happened to the 'urge to purge?'" "Fuck it." "Eskimo."
  5. "This is Ohio, if you don't have a brewski in your hand you might as well be wearing a dress."
  6. "Did you have a brain tumor for breakfast?!" And then one of my favorites: "Bulimia is SOOOOO '87"
  7. C'mon, it'll be showerhead masturbation for a week!
  8. The highschool in Heathers was named after Paul WEsterberg? No shit...Heh..."Teenage Suicide:Don't Do It!" Lol
  9. 2track, as someone who works as a bartender in a small town, that song is wildly depressing. THAnKS FOR RUINING MY NIGHT!!!! (just kidding) Jax--The Piano Has Bnen Drinking is definitely the drunkest song ever, but Small Change has a few other classics. What about "Bad Liver and A Broken Heart?" or "Tom Traubert's Blues: Four Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen" Whew. Sad.
  10. Now this all depends on the type of drugs you're doing. If we're talking about alcohol, then I have to go with the Pogues, or perhaps some loud punk rock ballads, or if you're a little depressed Tom Waits *note all alcohol consumed while listening to Waits should be consumed in a brown paper bag, preferably while lying in the gutter, OR in a seedy bar at 1:00 in the afternoon. 45 year-old topless dancer optional* Pot--doesn't really matter, it all depends on the type of stoned you are. For example, if you're feeling ghetto fabulous, then I suggest Rap or hip hop. Personally I like Dr Dre, Spooks, Outkast and Eminem. Then there's the middles grounders like Gorillaz. Love Gorillaz, but some of there stuff isn't quite rap, it starts moving into the same category as DJ Shadow, which is also very good for hitting the hash pipe. If by chance you are NOT feeling ghetto fabulous, you just feel like a big hippy, then any of the classics will do--Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd etc. I also happen to really dig The Velvet Underground after a big spliff. LSD and Mushrooms--The techno route can be great (remind me to tell y'all about The Game), as can the hippy route. I'd avoid rap and the Velvet Underground. With Rap, there are all those siren noises...this can be really disconcerting when you're tripping. If you hear this noise, I gurantee you will believe the cops are after you for the rest of the night. As for the Velvets, all that feed back can get EXTREMELY irritating, and you might believe that a sledge hammer and your stereo should shake hands. Ecstacy--Hmmm, there isn't much that I DON'T like when I roll (former, I don't do that shit anymore, it fucks you all up) But techo is great, so is ABBA (in fact the entire Priscilla: Queen of the Desert Soundtrack is AWESOME on E) Anything with a good beat that sounds happy happy happy.
  11. Oh I agree completely, and that's why it's musically brilliant. Only problem:Universalizability. I'm NOT ALWAYS in the mood for it. The rest of VU I can listen to all the time. It's ALL good. Heroin takes a certain type of mood.
  12. Jax, the reason Heroin didn't make it is because they break down into feedback in that song. Lyrically and musically it's fucking fantastic, BUT I get irritated and can't listen anymore when the feedback comes in. Otherwise, I SHOULD have included White Light/White Heat. Can I ammend mine? Because I would put that in place of "I'm waiting for my man"
  13. MLB, I can't disagree with you in any way about the Pixies albums. Top 5 Velvet Underground Songs 1. Pale Blue Eyes 2. Venus in Furs 3. Stephanie Says 4. Sister Ray 5. I'm Waiting For My Man
  14. Top 5 Punk tunes (that I've been listening to this week) 1. The Dead Kennedys---Viva Las Vegas 2. The Buisness--Drinking and Driving 3. The Clash--Janie Jones 4. Social Distortion--Mommy's Little Monster 5. The Clash--Rudy Can't Fail and in honor of impending St Paddy's day Top 5 Pogues songs 1. Fairytale of New York 2. Body of An American 3. Birmingham Six 4. London Girl 5. Boys From County Hell
  15. He really has made great choices...I mean who knew Titanic would suck? And it really did. It had the potential to be this great epic thing, and they made it into a stupid "love story" The MAn in The Iron Mask sucked too. Otherwise, he's made very good choices. Gangs rocked, and Catch Me... was excellent. Brilliant even. Had to say, I loved it.
  16. Fairytale of New York (The Pogues) "I love you baby..I can see a better time... Body of an American (The Pogues) " I told you I'd always love ya I always did I always will" Romeo and Juliet (Dire Straits) "And a love struck Romeo..." Love in an Elevator (Aerosmith) That's all I can think of right now...
  17. This is one my friend Eric pulled with a credit card telemarketer: I was on the phone > with Discover last week, here's how that call went: > > Discover: "Well sir, you need to make a payment or your account will be > closed. Once the account is closed, it will leave a permanent mark on your > credit." > Me: "Well, at least I will have some closure. See, if you close my account > and then tattle on me, I will never make a payment again as long as I live. > So the good news for you guys is that you can save on stamps and paper and > take me off your mailing list." > Discover: "Whether the account is closed or not sir, you would still be > responsible for making the payments on your balance." > Me: "You know what? I'm going to gather up all of the bills you guys have > sent me, dig a hole in the ground, put myself and the bills inside that > hole, and then fill myself in. You guys would probably come dig me up to > get the money huh?" > Discover: "No sir, that's not our practice." > Me: (sad voice) "oh, so you're saying you wouldn't come and try to rescue > me?" > Discover: "Sir, I'm not sure what you're talking about, but you do need to > make a payment on this bill." > Me: "Nah." >
  18. A girl at college used to pull the one in the number 2 slot ALL THE TIME We could hear her down the hall...her roomate moved out
  19. Nice game. There's another one like it, it's called Coyote Woman, but I don't know where to find it these days...
  20. Work is lame. Thanksgiving is lame. This week is lame. Living in a one-stop light shit-kickin red neck ubliette of hell is lame...but isn't the word "ubliette" pretty?
  21. I've gotta say, I hate most Disney movies. Maybe it's due to my general distatse for children (or their parents, it's anyone's call really) but there's something annoying, saccharine and corporate about them. Not to say there haven't been good ones. Disney's Robin Hood is one of my all time favoriture movies. Alice in Wonderland was pretty cool. Peter Pan? Not bad. The new Disney films do nothing but piss me off. Pocahontas? Give me a fucking break. There's a terrible story that they twisted for financial success. Would have been funny if they told the true story though. Not a word would have been uttered while walking out of THAT theater.
  22. Just discovered something new and strange about gummi bears...they can be greasy
  23. okay, who voted for Meet Joe Black? I feel an ass whoopin coming on (gee wouldn't I be embarassed if I accidentally voted for it when i was trying to vote for 12 Monkeys? Hmmm...) Anyway, Interview With The Vampire was good. Louis was just a pain in the ass. Not a bad character, just not a likeable one. His performance was excellent though. Queen of the Damned as a movie, kinda sucked, as the two books that were made into the movie, awesome, and performance wise cool as well. Just my humble opinion...
  24. Yes honestly. I did see The Truman Show. And I thought he was Jim Carrey in it. Same stupid facial expressions that make me want to kick him up the arse. he toned them down a little, and didn't actually have a hand in writing the script. Yeah, the premise of that movie was cool, but it could have been better if it weren't Jim Carrey. I have a strong aversion to him. He's like brussel sprouts for my cinematic soul. But before you deem me lame, or tasteless, remember that I got your Clockwork Orange reference. Happy Birthday Ian 655321?
  25. Personally, i've always hated Jim Carrey. So, I might be biased, but I think that even when he played "serious" rolls, all he did was mug for the camera using his same annoying facial expressions that led thousands of sheep into the box offices for Dumb and Dumber. the only time he came close to doing anything remotely interesting was in Man on the Moon. Lucky for him, Andy Kaufman made exaggerated facial expressions as well...only he was funny. Anyway, the point is, I've always liked Adam Sandler. I think he's creative and amusing. I hope this role exposes that he is capable of other roles. When I see it, I'll let you know what I think. Sounds hopeful so far...
