  1. Goyer's a creep, I don't want to see his take on sex-fetish demons.
  2. I don't agree with that take. I think peopke tend to confuse "things the audience laughed at" with jokes. There were about 2 legit fat jokes (depeding on how you want to read Rhodey's Cheez Whiz barb) but most of the humor in regards to Thor was about how disheveled and slovenly he was being. I don't think his panic attack was meant to generate a laugh and his triumphant moment a few minutes later got laughs but the look on his face was filled with genuine emotion. I think the jokes regarding him were laughing with the character in acknowledgement that he was behaving in the same slovenly way he always has in these movies just without the optimism and drive. Tony had a similar arc on Iron Man 3 where his PTSD was serious but jokes were made and I think they worked. I found the fact that they didn't "fix" him (dude didn't even comb his hair or shave) to be pretty empowering and genuinely hope they don't just bring him back to normal for future appearances.
  3. THANK YOU! It really doesn't look that bad at all, the model's a bit awkward looking in certain shots but that can be tweaked. People out here looking like Sonic never looked awkward before or that the current model everybody's wanting to return to wasn't equally hated by all the people who grew up with original chubby model from the Genesis days.
  4. This looks mediocre at absolute rock-bottom worst, it'll probably be fine and Sonic looks perfectly okay in motion.
  5. A prestigious film critic has finally weighed in:
  6. No, that's The Power Battle. The Power Fighters is its superior sequel.
  7. No Mega man The Power Fighters AND it's shaped like a Capcom logo? How fucking hard is it to do these things right?
  8. From what I've read the movie is basically an album of short Hellboy stories that coalesce into a rough plot. Which is to say, it sounds a lot like the comics. Maybe it's bad but fuck Rotten Tomatoes, worst case scenario my ticket goes to help Neil Marshal's career.
  9. It feels like it was cut down for time, so its character beats don't have as much emotion as they need. This feels like another possibly great movie that was lost in the editing room.
  10. If they just wanna re-use this cast for a Lupin the 3rd live-action I'd be good with that too.
  11. We don't need a Falling Down type flick right now, it's happening in real life with increasing frequency almost once a week at this point and this movie doesn't even seem to be incorporating the part where we find out that Michael Douglas isn't a folk hero and actually a really bad guy. And yeah, Ledger is popular with the red pill crowd but do we really need to be making a version of a character that's even closer to their sensibilities? This could literally be a movie about the Aurora shooter with not much tweaking. It's bad timing, it doesn't look like it has anything interesting to say, Phoenix is swinging for the fences in the least fun way possible, and I'm so over gritty and realistic at this point. This movie looks like a fucking embarrassment and actually makes me retroactively like Leto's version more for not being this.
  12. This looks like a shitshow. I finally can put a finger on what the comic book equivalent of Oscar Bait looks like. This movie lopls like it's trying. So. Hard. It looks like the movie equivalent of those "comic books: they're not for kids anymore" articles publications used to put out all the time. I mean, just for starters the appeal of The Joker is that there's no rational explanation for why he is the way he is. Even if there was, finding out what it was only robs him of his mystique. And the only thing that makes hin work is how he serves as a foil to Batman. The Joker can't exist in a vacuum and making him "gritty and realistic" just serves to show how poorly developed the idea is outside of a pulp context. This is basically just going to be a movie about a reddit troll going on a shooting spree with grease paint. This looks more boneheaded than that Death Wish remake, maybe moreso. I'll be really interested to see what the perspective is on this because the vibe of the trailer is just romanticism for a very real and very dangerous type of person in this modern world. And that's before I even get into Phoenix's horrible overacting (maybe he does better in the actual movie, there's no evidence here) or the fact that this movie looks derivative as shit. Why would I want to watch a watered down version of King of Comedy and Falling Down when those movies already exist. Addendum: If you haven't already then you're going to want to go ahead and neg this post because I'm going to head off the most likely response to my complaints right now. I've given this serious thought for about a decade now so I don't arrive at this decision lightly. The Killing Joke is trash. It's the kind of story that needed to be told at the time for comics to "grow up" but it's also a big part of the reason why so many people don't take the medium seriously. It is childishly dark and from and showcases all of Alan Moore's worst impulses. It doesn't hold up at all and any movie trying to chase that dragon is going to be worse for the attempt.
  13. So they just mashed up Taxi Driver and King of Comedy?
  14. I know this is all over twitter but that really is just a fucking awful poster.
  15. I figured this would come out next week when the Disney/Fox merger was signed in blood but I'm happy to see it now. Glad to see all the things that were apparently happening (nobody was seriously being approached to direct and they've been biding their time for a few months now) were in fact happening. Hopefully Bautista won't be penalized for his vocal opposition. And hey, we're getting a James Gunn Sucide Squad movie out of the deal too, suck on THAT you Nazi fucks.
  16. Here's the crazy thing: much of what compromises Hap & Leonard stories hasn't even been introduced yet. The first three books serve as prequels to the status quo of the later ones. Keith, if you really want to do this up proper I recommend Lansdale's first book Act of Love. It's pretty amateurish and a little dumb but it's pretty short and the main character becomes a mainstay in the Hap & Leonard books after the first few. I'm also going to warn you that Savage Season isn't great, but from Bad Mojo on you're golden.
  17. Man I'm loving that Infinity War was a horror movie and this one is looking like a post-apocalypse movie.
  18. This was a little longer than it needed to be but it was a lot better than I wad expecting, the trailers don't show any of the good stuff and make the movie look a lot blander and less visually interesting than it is.
  19. Woof, it doesn't even have a charismatic weirdo like Venom, just an obnoxious one.
  20. Until I see a trailer, this doesn't exist.
