Panch
Greatest. Scene. Ever. Recorded. On. Film. EVER! Honestly, the movie sucks (except for above). Still, it's considered a genre classic. Up there with the Romero greats. It also has a eye gouging scene that's also very good, but that's it. Baytor? Iambaytor
God if only the rest of the movie was half as cool as that scene. Fulci's a hack director and there's a reason that out of his entire career people only remember the zombie movies, mostly because they were the only ones worth a shit. I will admit The Beyond was very good and worth it for those last 30 minutes.
Panch
You know, The Beyond is one of those I've looked for, but haven't found. His 'sequel' to Zombie, City of the Living Dead was also crap. People say that The Beyond is his masterpiece (not saying much).

His 'sequel' to Zombie, City of the Living Dead was also crap. People say that The Beyond is his masterpiece (not saying much). It is his masterpiece and it is really not saying much. There was a DVD release that came out this year. It's a slow movie that's like kind of a Hong Kong The Shining about a hotel in New Orleans (New Orleans as approximated by Italians is rather amusing) that's on this gate to hell and this wizard or some shit that was killed years ago gets unleashed when they start doing renovations and starts making sure people get killed in horrible ways. At the end of the film the gate opens all the way and we get zombies roaming the halls of a hospital in a genuinely chilling scene, there's also this to consider: Edited June 21, 2009 by Iambaytor
Panch
Fulci truly is the master at the gore stuff ain't he? Man, he has dozens of scenes like that. Oh and above mentioned eye gouge: Edited June 21, 2009 by Panch
Iambaytor
Yeah but for every good one he has he has a bunch of bad ones too, there's a scene with a doberman attacking its owner (pretty much entirely ripped off from Suspiria) where you can obviously tell it's a crudely made hand puppet. So it's kind of like watching Triumph the Insult Comic Dog rip out a blind woman's throat.
Panch
That would be hilarious actually! Hey Baytor, do you consider Thriller a zombie movie or wha? Cause I do. If only they released a DVD, I'd be all over that. Edited June 21, 2009 by Panch
Iambaytor
It would, but this just looks cheap and sad Well it's got zombies in it, I mean all they do is dance but if Moonwalker is any authority then Michael Jackson apparently has the ability to make his enemies (including dobermans) do an elaborate dance number with him. He can also kill them by kicking glitter off his boot. Edited June 21, 2009 by Iambaytor
Panch
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker references ALWAYS welcome (man, waiting for that one to come to Xbox Live)! It's just that the genre has got alot of crap so I take what I can get. Like I said, I'm all over a DVD with Thriller packaging and all! Hint, hint anyone with these skills... (JAX!) Iambaytor
Okay, so let's talk about Night of the Creeps, it's finally getting a DVD release!
Panch
Right so... I've never seen Night of the Creeps (I hope I'm not losing my zombie cred). Review away, though... this is your thread too. Or I can put it up on my list and talk about it when I see it? Or here's a crazy one? The Dead Next Door! Which I think needs a remake more than any other movie EVER! It has AWESOME potential! It could be the Ghostbusters for zombies!!!! Iambaytor
Yeah The Dead Next Door did have some great potential that it mostly didn't realize (I also always found it odd that Bruce Campbell did the voice-over for the main character) I'll do a proper review on my blog when it comes out on DVD, until then: Night of the Creeps was Fred Dekker's (The Monster Squad, House, Robocop 3) finest movie. It was a love letter to cheesy 50s b-movies and it was done in a pitch perfect manner combining zombies, axe murderers, aliens, and Tom Atkins in the best role of his career. There climax involves Atkins and the main character teaming up on a sorority house under siege by zombies armed with a shotgun (to blow the heads up) and a flamethrower (to burn the slugs inside) and we get a precursor to the lawnmower scene from Dead-Alive. If you didn't like Undead and Slither there's a good chance you won't like this but I strongly urge you to at least give it a try, it's cheesy fun. Trust me, I've seen some bad zombie movies and I've seen some BAAAAAD zombie movies. I give 'em ALL a try (I just have a very small tolerance level for bad for badness sake in this genre). Ironically, I thought Bruce Campbell would be great if cast in a Dead Next Door remake! Some of the great ideas of that flick: - Feeding zombies meat through a fence. - Zombie mouth guards. - 'Zombie Squads' that go out and 'bust' roaming zombies! And I know I'm missing stuff! Have some to add?
Iambaytor
See I've heard of Dead Next Door summarized as "The A-Team meets The Living Dead" now that movie I would watch, naturally the A-Team would have to learn to be better shots, but the concept is solid. Don't forget the protesters and the zombies on the white house lawn, those were both rather iconic for the time. Never looked at it that way. I'd see that, too! I also liked how many of the characters in that movie were named after giants in the zombie genre. Romero, Savini and others. Why can't Hollywood remake that!? Wait, let me not jinx it. Was Quarantine not the crappiest crap of all crap? Now [REC]... that was perfection! Don't forget the protesters and the zombies on the white house lawn, those were both rather iconic for the time. Also, a great scene. You know, I'm putting all this positive stuff out on Dead Next Door, but I didn't even like it. It's NOT a great movie... I just think it has great potential. Mr. Hakujin
Slither is a zombie film? I need to see that film.

Panch
Slither is a zombie film? I need to see that film. Sigh... yes, but not one I liked very much. Lest Lindsay not hear my blasphemies... I haven't seen Night of the Creeps in a long time. I also urge you to give it a try. Trust me... if it has zombies in it, I'll get to it eventually. Was Quarantine not the crappiest crap of all crap? Now [REC]... that was perfection! Yes but remakes are never a bad idea when the original wasn't really that good to begin with. I mean look what happened with My Bloody Valentine and Last House on the Left Now Quarantine was ALMOST an improvement on [REC] if they had: A) Gotten some fucking lighting in the building (I seriously didn't even notice when the lights went out) B) Kept the original "alleged" cause of the outbreak and didn't go with the stupid doomsday virus bullshit (the stuff about rabies was in the original) C) Didn't majorly screw the pooch on the ending (La Nina De Maderos owns "Thin Infected Man" any day of the week) Otherwise they did a pretty decent job. Though I could've done without the beating the zombie to death with the camera, as funny as that was. Also you should enjoy this Slither is a zombie film? I need to see that film. You really really do, it's not a zombie film per-se. It's a film that has zombie-like things in it, but it's still great. If you liked gorey 80s movies then there's no reason you shouldn't like it. Edited June 21, 2009 by Iambaytor
Panch
Also you should enjoy this You just made my night with that, man. Yes, rabies is mentioned in the original, but they don't have a 'specialist' explain it mid movie. It's just mentioned as a possibility, but never confirmed. Like in the original Night of the Living Dead... a downed satellite that's caused dead flesh to reanimate from radiation. It's strategically placed as a panic tool.
