Mr. Hakujin Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 the worst 40 Liefeld drawings - cant help but feel we have a thread for this somewhere...anyway, enjoy the low-hanging fruit. shitting vertical ladders, heh. This brought both the lulz and the sadness. It's hilarious how bad his art actually is--I haven't really looked at any of his work since X-Force back in the day. Yet it's sad to know how wealthy he's become by being so horrible at his craft. Rob Liefeld is still getting commissioned to do work for both major comics publishers. He is one of the most successful, recognizable, well-known and popular comic book artists in history despite being difficult to work with, egotistical, contrary and missing deadlines on a consistent basis. He has made more money than most of us will ever see in our lifetimes. He still cannot draw a foot. Quote
Thelogan Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 (edited) It really was funny. I felt bad, because there were some where I was like "What's so bad about that?" until I read the comments. Then it was shit like "OH! Where the fuck IS that arm going?" Some of the things are just grasping at anything and it's kind of unfair. Like the backgrounds (or lack thereof) and lines on faces. Those are just stylistic choices (backgrounds probably more of a time constraint issue, re: about 50 issues of Cerebus). May as well bash Matt Groening for giving people unrealistic overbites and improper shading. I'm not saying he isn't getting what he deserves here. There are far, FAR more legitimate and laughable pieces of awful at play here. Some of it just made me go "Aw, c'mon". Edited August 26, 2011 by Thelogan Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 It really was funny. I felt bad, because there were some where I was like "What's so bad about that?" until I read the comments. Then it was shit like "OH! Where the fuck IS that arm going?" Exactly! Especially that pic of Spidey leap-frogging over Juggernaut. Spidey had no "lines" but Juggs did. That totally flew by me until he pointed it out. Ditto for Spidey's penis fingers. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Does he really deserve a whole thread? Really? He's blargh fodder at best, which is why this was there in the first place. Quote
The NZA Posted August 26, 2011 Author Posted August 26, 2011 i'm almost certain 2track had one in '04 before the great cleansing fire, is the thing. plus, didn't ASC have a hate-thread for Tim Bradstreet? i wanna say i had one for Greg Land. anyway, if this is just a place for Logans to repost that brilliant stan/rob/todd video, that's fine by me. Thelogan Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 What the fuck is going on with those eyes? I am not a professional artist...but how the HELL does that even happen?!? He penciled that. Looked at it. Shrugged, and inked it ANYWAY! Is it supposed to be an Extreme Pictures That I Gone And Done?!? Quote
Iambaytor Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 This thread is giving me plenty of more ideas for Hondos X-TREME! Somebody's gotta have an Infinite Downs-Syndrome face in the future. Quote
The NZA Posted August 27, 2011 Author Posted August 27, 2011 wow - inking, camming & driving. you're a modern day hero, robby. seriously though: his anatomy is laughably awful. even so, i'm not sure if that makes him worse in my eyes than Land (pornface, tracing, etc) and say Joe Mad, an artist i used to have fun with that kinda shat on his fans a while back there. Jables Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Blows my mind that noone's brought up Romita Jr yet. Talk about your terrible 'stylistic choices'. Quote
Newtype Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Blows my mind that noone's brought up Romita Jr yet. Talk about your terrible 'stylistic choices'. On the Avengers I'll say yes but on spider-man then I say no. Quote
Visitant Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Why is he still in the industry? sad face. Quote
Newtype Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 How would you feel if I told you he's doing a new Hawk and Dove series for DC. Quote
Visitant Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Part of me died inside. I think it was the part with huge shoulder pads. Quote
Thelogan Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Hey! Kids! LOOK! Another reason to hate Rob Liefeld! Quote

The NZA Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 never change, robby Despite his admitted disinterest in Image business affairs, the partners had seen fit to invest Liefeld with the powers of its top corporate offices, including that of chief executive officer, chief financial officer and secretary. Liefeld, who was notorious for snoozing through official meetings, was principal check-signing officer of the company. Among the many accusations against Liefeld, which came to light in subsequently filed legal complaints, was the charge that he routinely used his check-writing powers to cover personal debts from Image funds. Other dissatisfactions with Liefeld ranged from his alleged habit of copying art from other partners' comics to his plans to move titles that had been established at Image to the non-Image Maximum Press. In addition to allegedly siphoning funds, he was said to have used Image staff to do promotional and production work for Maximum. ... Image responded with a cross-complaint, in which it accused Liefeld of misusing Image funds and staff for Maximum Press projects, copying pre-publication artwork from other Image artists and using Image as leverage to force vendors to provide services to Maximum Press on credit. The Image complaint alleged damages in excess of $1.2 million, including $85,000 in funds overpaid to Liefeld in 1993 and more than $240,000 in Image funds used by Liefeld to pay his own expenses. The cross-complaint also alleged that Image had suffered financial losses and damage to its reputation as a result of titles that were marketed and solicited through Image but taken out of Image's hands when Liefeld departed to start his own line. Thelogan Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Liefeld has feelings too! Poorly written, self important feelings. I somehow get some satisfaction out of knowing that he's aware of how much people hate him, but frustrated that he still thinks he's the shit. Then came Heroes Reborn. I boldly stepped up to the plate with a sure-to-be-controversial Captain America reboot and made the mistake of drawing one horrible Captain America picture that drew the largest ire of my career. Oh, so bold! And yeah, that one picture is what everyone hates you for. Quote
The NZA Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 heh - "Robservations". i bet that took a whole evening. Quote
Thelogan Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 I bet he finds reasons to mention it a lot too. "Yeah, that's interesting. One time I was writing my column, it's called Robservations, and I said how..." Quote
Iambaytor Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 I love how he calls Mark Millar his own personal Jesus and mentions that Millar's a big fan. That makes far too much sense. Quote
