After a long battle with brain cancer, legendary director/writer Wes Craven passed away Sunday at the age of 76. He was with his family in his Los Angeles home at the time of his passing.

The filmmaking icon directed twenty-eight films in a career spanning forty years and was best known for launching multiple horror franchises including The Nightmare On Elm Street,Scream, and The Hills Have Eyes.

Craven made his feature film directorial debut in 1972 with The Last House On The Left, which he followed up with The Hills Have Eyes in 1977 and Swamp Thing in 1982. In 1984, he brought Freddy Krueger, one of the most terrifying horror villains of all-time, to life when he directed and wrote the first Nightmare On Elm Street. In 994, Craven once again reinvented the horror genre when he directed and wrote Wes Craven's New Nightmare, which earned a Spirit Awards nomination. Two years later, in 1996, Craven gave birth to another iconic horror villain, Ghostface, when he directed his most successful film to date: Scream, which spoofed the teen horror genre and starred Neve Campbell in the lead. He would go on to direct all three Scream sequels. 2011's Scream 4 was his final film.

It's taken me a bit to accept that this happened. Wes Craven gave me my love for horror films ever since a neglectful babysitter sat six-or-seven-year-old me down in front of A Nightmare on Elm Street so she could go for a joy ride with her boyfriend. That could've been traumatic but I LOVED it!

Time to pick a few of his best to marathon! This could get difficult.

That's SERIOUSLY how you got into horror? It fuckin' sounds like a scene from horror movie in itself. Perfect.

Yep! I enjoyed it so much I became obsessed with horror. I'd read R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike even some Stephen King in elementary school. I watched Tales from the Crypt every night before I went to sleep! And there was a video rental spot across the street that would rent me rated R horror movies for a dollar so I became obsessed with Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and weird little cult ones like Sleepaway Camp and The Toxic Avenger. Ahh...memories....

I am behind the times as I'm only just now hearing about his passing. I don't think I even knew he had brain cancer. He was certainly a force in the genre and might be the only horror director, other than John carpenter, I actually really liked as a kid. The People Under the Stairs is my favorite non-Elm Street film he did.

I was looking over his filmography on his website and there are quite a few he did that I missed, like Last House on the Left, My Soul to Take, Deadly Friend, and Cursed.

It's really cool you're a part of the CHUD remembrance, Baytor. That porn film though. Yikes...

The Premise: Angela and Peter are siblings and have loved each other since they were kids. They are both physically attracted to each other but Peter is studying to become a priest. She finally gets in bed with him and after that Peter start to have second thoughts on his plans for the future.

It figures Wes Craven would've been a major influence for G.R.R. Martin.

Still got all my original Goosebumps books perched in my library. Just counted 'em - got 19 of the very first run / 1st edition prints with the bumpy covers.

A Troma fan! I love Toxie! I have an awesome figure of him from the 'Now Playing' series in my bedroom.

Got the first 4 Seasons of Tales From the Crypt on DVD. Demon Knight totally needs a bluray release - and it's getting one! October 20th! Woop-woop! Bordello of Blood I can live without, but it's also coming out the same day.

When I was a kid, it was Sleepaway Camp 2. That scene where that one bitch drowns that other bitch in her own poo in that outhouse...whoa. LOL Horror.

That's so cool! I LOVE Troma and Lloyd Kaufman. I met him in 2010 at San Diego Comic Con...

And ever since then, I try to catch him at Supercon or Megacon any time I go. If you haven't seen one of his Troma panels, they are worth checking out! Have to share one more! Here he is signing my Tale of Two Toxies poster!

WHAAAAT. I loved Demon Knight! Gonna have to pick that up next month! And Sleepaway Camp 2 is another classic! I've actually never met anyone else who'd seen one, so this is pretty awesome. :)

Whooooa - totally jelly. I would love to meet him and get a pic w/ him. I've seen quite a few of his interviews - he's so damn...professional and odd at the same time! His humor can be so damn over-the-line, he's great.

He certainly doesn't have much love for the major studios. Don't know if you're into super hero flicks - but Mr. Kaufman had a nice cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm sure he loved being a topic of conversation for Disney.

Cool shirt, BTW! I thought I had One Day at HorrorLand, but alas - I checked and I don't. I remember a couple disappearing throughout the years - pretty sure that one was a casualty. I totally remember that cover. Sad face. LOL - Oh, the psychotic pain of the pack-rat. I shouldn't have looked - LOL!

I wanted to post The Aroma du Troma that came w/ my DVD of Toxie, but couldn't find it anywhere on youtube. Found something close to it, but censored and a bit toned down. (shrugs) Troma shout-out!

Sorry to take it so off-topic, but it's still kinda on topic.

Super hero flicks are my jam. I think I was the only person in the theater who cheered when they showed Lloyd in the Kyln! I'm a HUGE fan of James Gunn from his days at Troma. And the stuff he did after was great! Slither and Super are two of my favorite movies. If you haven't seen either, you MUST! Especially Super. It's SO dark.
