  1. IMO audioslave is a huge dissapointment. They have absolutely no range and I'm surprised how lazy and bland the songwriting is. I spend every song waiting for Morello to do something weird with his guitar during the solo. R.A.T.M. and Soundgarden were both far, far superior bands and I'm actually really glad that the reason Cornell is taking the time off audioslave is to tour his next solo album. I think Cornell's first solo album is also vastly better than anything Audioslave has put out (check out the song "Preaching the End of the World"). And the random prejudice against rap is just kind of off-putting. I'm not gonna start hating on Faith no More and such because P.O.D. exists. Bands suck all on their own, and noone told P.O.D. and Limp Bizkit to suck, they just did.
  2. Hey, Cafe tacuba kicks ass. Hella good mexican band that is like way too popular amongst hispanic folk but unknown in the states. That whole album, Cuatro Caminos is really good. As far as Megadeth goes, when you mention their last album being bad, you must mean The World Needs a Hero, which was dogshit, and like you say, not metal at all. The system has failed (their last cd recorded in 04) is undeniably a return to metal, and IMO their best album since Rust in Peace. Division, you're totally right about the amazing first track. I'm totally psyched for their next album.
  3. I still think M Night is a great director. But he's a pretty clear cut case of somebody who needs to stop writing. For the love of god if he just stopped writing his own movies he might come out with something more interesting than the Village and less self indulgent that Lady in the water, both extremely well directed movies that have nothign else going for them. Also since I started this thread Alex Proyas went batshit insane and made I Robot. He also made a smaller Aussie film called Garage days which was a pretty interesting hyper stylized film about a rock band trying to make it. It was interesting because the stuff that shouldn't have worked (long goofy CGI sequences and bizarre hallucinations) did work, and it was the simpler scenes that I though fell kind of flat. It was nice to see him do that, and then he made I Robot. That had a few cool action sequences but it was exactly what you'd expect it to be; a lame will smith movie. Arronofsky made the fountain which I still haven't seen yet. Unfortunately it was over budget and he didn't really get to make what he wanted to, but I'm still interested in seeing it. I think Alfonso Cuaron is climbing up there as far as young directors go. One thing I really like about him is that he is very outspoken about why he makes films the way he makes them. He'll actually talk about why he doesn't like closeups and such. So it's just nice to know that someone out there is giving some thought about why they're doing what they're doing.
  4. TMNT 2. Now, I doubt it was the first I saw, but it's the first I remembered. I remember watching it, then going to the mall arcade and beating the TMNT arcade game with 3 other random kids. Good times.
  5. Yeah, I should be down for this, no problem. And I'd say that my house can do 6 people or so comfortably. Feel free to try and cram yourselves in any way you like. Here is a list of our accomodations: 2 normal couches. 1 fold out couch bed thing. Should hold two or three. 1 comfy leather chair with comfy footrest. 4 sofa cushions 2 bed pillows 1 small blanket 1 king size comforter 1 sleeping bag. 1 tent. (if you prefer our luxurious backyard; possoms and all) Plenty of floor space. 1 crazy roommate who will stay in his room the whole time, kind of looks and acts like travis bickle. 1 cool roommate who won't mind the crowd. And yeah, me and mariam can get 6 people in to disney for free. If you're bringing more than six, see if it's worth it for you guys to split a ticket or two. There wont be any lines at all in February. Tickets are hella 'spensive tho. Anyways, prepare accordingly!
  6. Holy crap this was good! How the fuck is Rocky six good????? I saw it yesterday, loved it. Mariam loved it, the theater I was in was going crazy over it. I'm really glad I saw this, you shoudl make an effort to see it in a packed theater, it's the only was you should watch a rocky movie.
  7. Nah, Mariam is workin fulltime, the only time she's takin off is for us to go to guyana in early december.
  8. Trying to get back into the swing of things soon. Watch yer back cause I'll be in town for thankgsgiving!
  9. Great picks. I'm definately glad there's some epople who aren't on the hate blair witch band wagon. I think that was a damned good movie too. I think I may be the only one who really liked "I Spit on your Grave" but it's definately one of my favorites.
  10. Ha! Drink like fish. Tho from the looks of it, sig might have more space to hold all of ya. Still welcome to my place if ya want tho. I'm very busy but I cans till hang a bit and dinghy will be here the whole time.
  11. Hmm, now that I'm figuring my semester out I'm gonna be very busy the weekend of megacon, so i dont knwo if I can come to teh con proper, but I'll have a eensy bit of free time. Coincidentally the florida film festival is also happening that weekend. Plus, the thing I'm super busy with is sort of part of the florida film festival. I'm working on this crazy interactive film/theater project that is sponsored by the florida film fest. So.... if you guys go to see whatever movie plays at the fest on friday night and you attend the opening ceremonies, you'll get to see someone try to disrupt the ceremony with a megaphone and get arrested. Should be fun to see.
  12. Dont Look Back - By Boston Specifically I can't stop thinking about the end where they bring in the sound of an airplane taking off over the last chorus and some awesome riffage. Thank the gods of music for arena rock! Don't look back A new day is breakin' It's been too long since I felt this way I don't mind where I get taken The road is callin' Today is the day
  13. Muahahahaha, the guitar solo to boston's "more than a feeling" has been conquered. Fuck sleep! I'm gonna be wakin up the neighbors... btw, what happened to the rock emoticon with the electric guitar? It would be so appropriate right now. here he is!
  14. My finger's hurt! They hurt hurt hurt! But I have learned the bass part to John Petrucci's "Glasgow Kiss" so fuck y'all!
  15. Coheed and Cambria - The Willing Well IV - The Final Cut Yes, there are still new, fairly popular bands out there that have 7 minute jam sessions at the end of their albums, preceded by 3 other 7 minute jam sessions.
  16. I loved King Kong, I thought it was great fun and pretty damned tragic by the end of it. The problem is that there doesn't really exist a movie that is deserving of like 200 million dollars worth of advertising and hype. So no, it wasn't the second coming, but it was one fo the year's best IMO.
  17. Yup yup , come on down, we can put some folks up if need be. Good time will be had by all!
  18. Tribe Called Quest - Oh My God Cause tribe remembers that hip hop can produce some damned fine bass lines. "bum bum bum buduhdadadabum"
  19. The Ramones - Sheena is a Punk Rocker Marvin Gaye - What's goin on Credence Clearwater Revival - Green River James Brown - soul power Buddy Holly - That'll be the day Stone Temple Pilots - Still Remains (awesome pick firedownbelow! By far their best album too IMO) Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks
  20. This thing looks like what my computer looked like a year ago... Hell, with screenshots I can't really tell the difference between this and an old X-box game. I'm pretty unimpressed right now. Especially for 400 bucks, 60 bucks a game and 40 bucks per controller. As far as the games go, Condemned looks good, but everything else is a newly polished version of something I can get somewhere else. Elder scrolls will probably be great, but I'm definately waiting on the Nintendo Revolution. Nintendo's the only company doing anything that resembles a new system.
  21. Pretty recently Primer did a hell of a job with this idea. Probably the most "realistic" time shifting movie I've ever seen.
  22. Holy crap, the first two track's of Death Cab for Cutie's new album are fucking excellent. I don't care how fashionable it is to like these guys nowadays, they make some damned good music!
  23. What the hell? A discussion about video game music and Katamari Damacy hasn't been mentioned yet? What the hell is wrong with you people? Katamari Damacy has one of the best soundtracks of all time, certainly the best soundtrack I've heard in years.
  24. Cementary gates, by pantera! Reverend, reverend, Is this a conspiracy? Crucified for no sins No revenge... beneath me. Lost within my plans for life, It all seems so unreal. I’m a man cut in half in this world, Left in my misery. (instrumental) The reverend he turned to me Without a tear in his eyes. It’s nothing new for him to see, I didn’t ask him why. I will remember... The love our souls had sworn to make. Now I watch the falling rain All my mind can see now is your (face). Well I guess You took my youth And gave it all away. Like the birth of a new found joy, This love would end in rage... And when she died I couldn’t cry, The pride within my soul. You left me incomplete All alone as the memories now unfold. Believe the word. I will unlock my door... And pass the cemetery gates. But the lyrics aren't what's stuck in my head, it's the riff! BUM chum chum chum chum ba duh da doo daa daa DWEEEE dum!!! BUM chum chum chum chum ba duh da doo daa daa DWEEEE dum!!!
  25. Back in orlando! And back online, beetches. Too bad I'm moving all my shit in in 150 degree weather. I just hope my TV doesn't spontaniously combust as I hop over the three pits of lava on the way to my new volcano home. Global warming is here to stay folks, don't leave home for more than 30 seconds without your astronaut suits!
