  1. This is like the most goddamned awesome thing ever. I've only seen the first two episodes so far, but I was blown away. It's a must buy once I get the money.
  2. To be fair, I wasn't expecting anything deep from this, I actually thought that considering its 2 and a half hour running time, it was a bit short on action scenes and Transformers, and a bit heavy on computer hacking and the Altmanesque ensemble cast of human characters. There was easily 45 minutes worth of stuff in there that I could have completely done without. If I am to be faulted for thinking the movie about giant transforming robots should be fast paced and light on the not so interesting human character development and convoluted plot; then so be it.
  3. I wasn't so hot on it. I was actually expecting better, cause it's been getting good buzz but it kind of bored me. It was way too long, there was a pretty huge stretch in the middle that was nothing but people yelling military jargon into radios, and it had us following three groups of human storylines (what is this, the fucking magnolia of transforming robot movies?). I did enjoy the action, though I thought the end was anticlimactic. I did like a lot about it, the Transformers themselves were handled perfectly, looked good, acted well, etc. The action was above average, and the CG was great. I just really didn't like any of the human writing, none of the dialogue was as witty as it was pretending to be, and I thought the pacing was really uneven and awkward. But this is coming from a complete non fanboy; I watched it as if I'd never heard what a Transformer was, and the movie was just called "Shia Lebouf and the giant robots" so take my opinion for what it is, but I was dissapointed; Bay usually doesn't make my favorite movies, but he rarely has me dozing off in my seat like this did.
  4. I would admit that the final fantasy games don't have too much gameplay to them once you're in a fight; but once you have some weapons and some skills, fallout plays much more like a tactical turn based game, where you can determine your character's position, which makes all the difference in the world. I'm sure you wouldn't hesitate to call something like Jagged alliance or X-com a game, however turn based they may be. I guess the most recent example of these types of games would be something like final fantasy tactics or advance wars on the GBA and DS.
  5. Why the fuck is Mr. Show not on here? Goddamned Phillistines.
  6. Yes, Kyuss rules. Also, check our Joshe Homme's Desert sessions. Volumes 1-10 where he takes a bunch of friends to the desert; plugs amps into a generator and rocks out. Really cool stuff with a lot of cool guests.
  7. Also, coheed and cambria are going to be there. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I really like them.. Certainly worth a half an hour of your time to check out; make sure to give em a look.
  8. Tomorrow I'm going to a pretty fucking great show. Mastodon, Against Me! and Cursive at the House of blues. Mastodon is the smartest, most complex metal band to come around in a long time, and their two last albums, Leviathon, and Blood Mountain put pretty much every other metal band out there to shame. Against Me! Is one of my favorite punk bands around. Their sound has gone from acoustic sing along punk anthems, to electric sing along punk anthems, but they put out the catchiest, most energetic, angry music I can think of, and their live shows are always great. Cursive I know much less about, they're an indie band who's last album was put out on Saddle Creek records (of Bright eyes and Rilo Kiley fame) but I downloaded it, and thankfully, it's much less sentimental and schmaltzy than those bands. The entire album Happy Hollow is about being athiest, so it's rigtht up my alley. I'll show up on time to check them out for sure. So, two of my current favorite bands at great points in their careers in a good small venue. I'm pretty fuckign excited.
  9. The new director made this movie called Intaco with Max von Sydow in it that I really liked. Of course, it's the only feature he's made and he made it like a billion years ago, but at least he has a track record. I'll also hold out for good reviews but consider watching it.
  10. I'm goin for the fragile & and all that could have been, not only because the fragile is really quite the acheivement, but I really love the "still" cd that was part of and all that could have been. I also need to say that Broken is fuckin amazing and has my favorite production of any NIN album. The sound of it is fucking brutal.
  11. I'm a big fan of Ixnay on the Hombre myself.
  12. I guess the good outweighs the bad in that he has like 5 classic movies, and noone's forcing you to watch his like 4 other movies; but if you seriously sit down and try to watch his catalog, even just his important films that were hits in the day, you might kill yourself. And goya's ghosts is Milos Forman's next movie, about the painter. It's finished already, I'm not sure when it's comign out, prolly waiting for oscar season. Also, I think natalie portman is for real nekkid in this one. Unlesss she chickens out again.
  13. The fountain wasn't bad. The stuff that took place in the future was kind of laughable but the present was good and the past weas fucking great. Lumet just kind of shoves the camera in people's faces. He's not really a bad director (although about 25 of his movies would have you think otehrwise) because he's always very faithfull to the script, but all of his great films are the product of someone else's talent shining through. Forget about the wiz, that's a random freak failure. Try watching Daniel, Murder on the Orient express, Long day's journey into night, or prince of the city. I dare you to stay awake during that shit. I do really like Milos Forman, Man on the Moon is excellent too. Can't wait for Goya's Ghosts to come out.
  14. This is really similar to the marketing game that they had going for the movie A.I. I liked the story to that game far more than the movie. As far as the NIN game goes, it's kind of paint by numbers cookie cutter 1984 fare, but the new single is great, very minimal, direct, and aggressive. I think NIN was trying to do that on with teeth too, but so far this stuff is far more effective.
  15. The Damned - New Rose This is one of those bands I've been meaning to listen to for the longest time and now I feel like a retard for waiting this long. Damned Damned Damned is one of the best punk albums of all time.
  16. As far as the choice hating band wagon goes, Gn'R isn't exactly the olden days of metal, def leopard is not a real band just because they're british, and Queensryche shows the prog bias that comes from Jax. Slayer and Anthrax would be nice, as far as older stuff Diamond Head is fucking amazing and Budgie is pretty fucking solid early 70's british metal. Sabbath would have won all the same tho.
  17. I've already scored tickets for the flaming lips at the house of blues on april 12th, and I learned yesterday, that the day after, april 13th IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE is giving a free performance at a cd store over here. I never thought he'd perform anywhere near here, I'm psyched.
  18. yup yup, I'm still in and my house is still open to yaz.
  19. I think I was referencing the fun part being kind of nonexistant. So, this is supposed to be a sort of replacement for Philosophy wikipedia entries and cliff notes and such? In that case I think someone would learn more with less effort from the wikipedia entries.

PS, my roommate's wifi thing is fucked up, I haven't been able to connect at all lately! >=/

  20. My roommate does, but he's crazy, so I don't play his shit very often, so do bring it if ya can. Don't really have any games yet, just sports and Super mario bros for VC. I'm gonna buy more shit once I finish a rough cut of my movie.
  21. Referencing something good doesn't make the thing that references it good! That shit was lame, I laughed more times when I read the users manual to my toaster oven.
