  1. I'd never heard about the corpse bride either, imdb doesnt even list it. I know he's wrapping up a movie named "Big Fish" with Ewan Mcgregor, Steve Buscemi and Helena Bonham carter. It'd be nice to see if he can get back to his former glory with this one, Spielberg came close to directing it, so it's probably a fine script. As for the chocolate factory, I guess Tim Burton is just a mean lean remakin' machine... I'd like to see exactly how different he wants to make it.
  2. It's bad enough that all kinds of violence and atrocity is commited in God's name... we don't need to add bad movies to the list! I expected this one to be a cool premise for Jim Carrey to return to comedy with. This movie didn't get creative with it's premise, it wasn't very funny, and it was preachier than a season worth of 7th Heaven. Bruce almighty is a wannabe Frank Capra fable (they even dare to include characters watching a scene from the infinitily better "It's a Wonderful Life" in it) about a newsman who's down on his luck and angry at god. After a pretty good amount of bitching, moaning and yelling at the sky, God (Morgan Freeman) decides to let him see if he can do better. Thus, Jim Carrey has God's power. The posibilities! Yeah.... Hilarity doesn't really ensue. There's a handfull of funny bits scattered here and there, but nothing to write home about. I think Jim Carrey is a funny guy and I'm generally a fan of his stuff, but here he's just kinda flailing around while the special effects try to tell jokes for him. He was used to MUCH better effect in Liar Liar (also by this director, Tom Shadyac) where his gift at physical comedy could be exploited. The movie just constantly jumps from stupid (but not necesarrily creative or funny stupid ala ace ventura & dumb and dumber) comedy to it's equally stupid, formulaic, overly sentimental plot. Anyways, a big budget and big star does not a good movie make. And good intentions don't go very far either. The movie means well enough and Carrey does what he can with the script , but halfway through I was praying that this shit would be over.
  3. I heard about this one a little while back and it does sound cool. Moyneux is one of the few truly creative, original people in the PC game business, so this looks really cool. Mind you, if it were just another shitty budget sim game (Movie Tycoon!) I wouldn't even look at it, but in the hands of a good designer, this looks fun as hell.
  4. don't lie to me, I wasn't allowed in to play mario party cause I WHOOPED y'alls asses last time. You just didn't want another beating! I understand, I understand... You just can't handle this. :baa:
  5. I need to see this movie again, away from the huge fan crowd to take it in a little better. And not necesarrily because the plot will be clearer, just because I get a distorted view of a movie when I see it with an enormous adoreing crowd.
  6. I pretty much agree with all you said bob, though I didn't mind the long fights at all.
  7. wow, I mean, I just can't get any fucking better at Mario Party 4! I just fucking can't! God damn why do I have to be so fucking GOOD!? It's just like... unfair!
  8. Yeah, I think the point is that sure, anybody with money and dead parents can become a vigilante, but batman is not just some schmuck. He is exceptionally smart and determined. And I think the point is that most people, if given his money and martial arts skills, would still die in many of the situacions batman has been in. Batman may be a human being, but he is no ordinary one, he is an exceptional one.
  9. Yeah, this whole arguement is dumb, how interesting a character is is not determined by how powerful they are. Batman and Superman have fought before, it's been done really well, and Batman usually wins. Why? Because batman is the more well written and well developed character, and nobody wants to see him lose. This isn't like Iron man where he just puts a suit on and he's all super (a common criticism of Iron man is that anyone could be him if they had the suit), but Batman is as strong as he is because of a life of obsessive training. Hell, lets forget about the fact that he uses his smarts and detective skills to catch his enemies most of the time. "Ok, so take away his money, his years of discipline and training, and his intelligence... what have you got?..... nothing!"
  10. For him to say that it's better than three kings and boogie nights is a pretty big claim. Somehow, I don't beleive him...
  11. cooooooooool stuff. This was one beautiful movie. Insane fights, absolutely mindblowing visuals. God damn, this one was cool. Plot was great for a kung fu flick. Kept ya thinking, but not as strong as Crouching tiger's I dont think (we were comparing the two). Now that I know it's coming to theaters here, I wish I would have waited, but it was very cool. I suggest if you haven't seen it yet, wait for it on the big screen, I can't wait to see it in theaters. Oh, and I'd better not hear people bitching because people can fly. I know this movie is gonna take all kinds of shit for the same reason Crouching tiger did. It's especially rediculous coming out of people who probably loved X2 and the Matrix. This movie doesnt go for realism in any way shape or form so don't expect it. But damn it was COOL.
  12. If you can't see my mirrors, I can't see you.
  13. Damn, as unbalanced and button mashy as those MvC games were, it sucks to see em go, they were still fun. Capcom is fucking retarded to lose that license, and activision kinda blows. But yeah, I'll check this new game out for sure, especially if they add some more characters.
  14. hmm, even as far as SNK characters go, they dont have very many, I really hope that they add more. I really dont understand how they can include like a billion awesome characters in king of fighters alone and pick and choose so much for their vs. game. Other than the amazing lack of characters tho, I love the idea of a more SNK oriented game. This means a more strategic and slower game. I get the feeling that Capcom is gonna absorb Cap vs SNK (Which is relatively slower and strategic, though by no means a game of risk or anything....) into the Marvel vs. Cap franchise (which is a fun, but horribly unbalanced button masher that has like twelve characters on screen at a time all doing super attacks.) So, it'll be cool for somebody to make a game that's a bit more strategy oriented. And if they're limiting the num. of characters in favor of balance, I'm all for it, just try playing against someone who knows how to play with megaman and roll on Marvel vs Cap to understand how important balance is in a fighting game....
  15. In Japan the street fighter "boss" character names are different, they had to be switched around because of the similarity between Balrog's original name (M. Bison) and Mike Tysons. And where does it say it's only for Neo Geo? I'd assume that it's simply the next in the line of Capcom VS SNK games, but that would make no sense because this has like.... half as many characters... I'm confused. Maybe this is an old ass link to an older incarnation of SNK vs capcom or something
  16. First thing's first, great movie. The action scenes raised the bar and have me doing nothing but playing fighting games the day after. They made a concious effort to keep up the philosophical stuff, and it didn't feel shoved in, the fate vs. free will thing and everything else helped keep me watching when asses weren't being kicked, and the philosophy stuff adds to the aesthetics and style of the movie as much as it adds to the depth. Also, it's nice that the movie doesn't take itself too seriously, and it's also cool that they didn't just blatantly throw in a character for comic releif, the chocolate cake scene is a cool example of this. Spoilers in here I'm pretty sure I liked the first one more tho. Like IC said, I just thought that the first one was a tighter movie. There wasn't one wasted scene or line of dialogue that I wasn't paying full attention to. In reloaded, the overall plot of the Machines reaching Zion really didn't seem that urgent to me, and when they did reach Zion, I didn't care very much. As a result, a good part of the time they had scenes in Zion, I was kind of hoping that they'd just hop into the Matrix already. I thought that the thing between Morpheus, Noibe, and Commander lock was sort of extraneous, and I really could have cared less. Once they started hopping into the matrix tho, and the real story got underway (neo and them trying to fulfill the prophecy) my worries flew out the window. But even though they upped the ante on the action and got more complex with the philosophical stuff, I just think the first one was more focused. Makes sense though, Reloaded was a bigger and more ambitious movie and they had a lot of stuff to cram into it, so they bit off a bit more than they could chew. Don't get me wrong tho, I loved it, and it's not another example of shitty sequels just because I didn't like it as much as they first. It's a great sequel. And as far as I'm concerned, it's not the second part of a trilogy as much as it's the first part of a big ass sequel. This movie had a very different tone from the first one, it was very epic feeling, and it seems like the next one will be along the same lines. And I'm fucking dying to see the next one.
  17. Hmm, you know life is sort of interesting when not only are you at Walmart at 3 in the morning getting absolute last minute mother's day gifts, but you coincidentally see like three of your friends there doing the same shit...
  18. I have to go with DOOM. Especially as far as influencial significance goes. Doom was really the first game that really showed exactly how effective it could be to use the first person perspective. That game was so absorbing it's insane. And that is the major goal of interactive games in general, to have you actually feel like you're in another place, and Doom was a huge step in that direction. Sure, there were other good FPSs before it, but i think that Doom's lighting, sound, and claustraphobic level design brought out how engrossing the medium can be. And if Doom is the "citizen kane" of FPSs, half-life is the "godfather." Half-life took it another step by introducing a story into the game without alienating the player. Every bit of dialogue took place in the first person, the characters talk directly to you at all times, and the use of scripted events (you're walking by when suddenly the wall explodes and you see a scientist getting dragged through an air vent or something) was another big thing. And never mind it had one of the best and most revolutionary game intros ever. And that's just the single player. The mod thing that started with Quake blew up in halflife and led to lots of games being carried entirely by their mod community. So, I go with doom with halflife as a second place.
  19. If you've ever seen "The Heist" (Gene hackman and Danny Devito), you know what to expect here. Very fun movie with cool characters conning the hell out of each other, double crosses, triple crosses and soforth. The idea is that A group of guys make a living out of conning people out of money. One day they con somebody who works for a big mob boss called King (Dustin Hoffman). King gets pissed at this, so the 4 guys have to make it up to him. They need to pull a con to get money for him, and they enlist the help of a HOT pickpocket along the way (Rachel Weisz). To start off with, this movie has one hell of a cast. Everybody in the core group of cons is great, Edward Burns is a good protagonist, level-headed, cool, ummm, yeah, I guess he's fuckin "confident" aint he? Anyways, Luiz Guzman does a cool job as one of two cops that help the con men out. Andy Garcia makes a great appearance as federal agent. Very different, cool role for him. Dustin Hoffman actually plays a beleivable badass mob boss. This one is VERY different for him, I'm not used to seeing him headbutt people, but I loved him in this. So, the cast makes this movie lots and lots of fun as it plays out the twisty turny plot. This is important, cause if we didn't like these characters (and they're complete assholes, but we still like em) we wouldn't care about the plot's twists and turns. The writing starts off pretty straight forward, most of the enjoyment coming from the dialogue and how these guys pull off such smart, cool con jobs. It ends up a sort of mind fuck, changing what you thought about several characters several times and all of this. It's sort of convoluted, but not that hard to follow what's happening, the plot twists enough to be fun, but it doesn't get annoying. So, for a shot in the dark at the theater, this movie was great. You'll be hard pressed to find a more entertaining 2 hours in a theater. Again, if you've seen "the Heist" it's a lot like that. Probably because the director seems to be a David Mamet fan (he directed the movie version of "Glengarry Glen Ross"), this movie certainly takes plenty of influence from mamet. Cool stuff, it was a smart, fun movie and a good way to spend 2 hours and 6 bucks.
  20. blah blah blah, made my fookin point, now stop padding your fucking post #!
  21. Heh, monkey jungle is cool. Best part is none of the monkeys are trained, so the employee is trying to feed em and tell us about how the monkeys have formed complex societies in there and shit, when all of a sudden one monkey mounts another from behind and they start going at it! You can't train em to do that. :sly:
  22. Wolverine is my favorite X-man by far and all of this, and they do him well enough, but he will never be nearly as cool a character as he is in the comics. He's great in the comics because of his inner monologue, running commentary on what's healing at any given moment and enormous amount of history. They simply can't cram that all into the movie. All they're focusing on is "ooo a mysterious past" bah, everyone in the movies has a mysterious past. As cool as wolvie is, they need to focus on someone else in the movies, cause in the movies, he's just a good fighter with claws. And the fight between him and lady deathstrike reminded me of "Death Becomes Her," it was kinda funny. I thought deathstrike was fine tho. She shouldn't be a major character, there needs to be a henchman to provide a good fight scene, and a hot asian is a good pick. The depth put into magneto is good, he still seems a bit too insane tho, I wish they'd justify his anti-human stance a bit more. As far as the gadget goers, the plot itself was nonexistant, just a reason to get the story moving along. It was as significant a plot as most 3 issue story arcs. Hopefully when they move into the phoenix thing the plot will matter as much as the action. As far as changes from the comic book go, I could care less, if I wanted the comic, I'd read it, and anyways, if you think the movie is inconsistant with the comics, the comics are filled with more inconsistencies than the bible.
  23. If dolphins are so smart, why do they live in igloos?
  24. Ok, the comments about X2 are starting to scatter over the forum, so here's the thread. What did you all think? By the way, spoilers everywhere here. I thought it was fun fun fun. Better than the first. Lots of great scenes, all the fights were spectacular, cerebro was reeeealy cool. The storyline was serviceable. But all very fun. Good to see wolverine killing people, he's the best at what he does and all that. Nightcrawler was great, and he had the potential to suck. He seemed like an unfilmable character and they turned him into the highlight of the movie. Lady deathstrike was little more than a henchman, but she was a fuckin cool one! Can't say enough about all those fights. As far as the story goes, this one was nothing special, but could be a chunk of a really good overall story. This could stretch out to be a huge franchise, fuck a trilogy, they could make lots and lots of these. It could be really episodic if they wanted it to be, there's certainly plenty of material. They're already moving into the phoenix thing, which would make for great plot along with the action. So, basically, this movie was plenty of fun, with potential for greatness later with tighter scripts with more substance to them and more movies to tell the story in.
  25. Hmm, woke up at 5pm, had some fun conversation... now I'm bored again... the food at home sucks but i'm hungry.... I'll think of something and the midgets in rabbit suits singing "sounds of silence" are no joke!
