  1. fuckin FINALLY good luck to him topping this classic
  2. which reminds me that i don't think gamestop ever shipped my copy of fight crab
  3. we've talked about soul blazer (apparently that one was possibly connected to actraiser?) and illusion of gaia in other threads, but stateside we never got the last one, terranigma, and it's a beautiful game. the creators are also hellbent on keeping it alive & did a 27th annual tribute video for it last weekend
  4. amazing that it runs as well as it does for this thing
  5. i am, admittedly, enough of crusty oldhead to say: yeah, it kinda irks me to see pyramid head outside of james' stories (and i'm tempted to say the specific sexy fucked up nurses as well), as both have psychological reasons for being there/"punishing" james i'm all for doing one more lap there (and another with the movie) and letting that go. something like shattered memories took its own approach to even a "remake" of SH and most folks dug that, i defended homecoming right up to the final act because i'm wary of getting too much into the cult/halo of the sun people but if you're goinna do so and make it hostel/torture porn, i think that's a shit angle for this series SH as a place that draws in the damned is crazy interesting, but expanding that to other corners could be really cool. for me, there's initially some wariness because of messy stuff like much of downpour, the VN thing (that looked weird?) and the extreme bungling of the HD collection. i kinda find the kitchen sink approach more interesting this time, as there's no way at least something here doesn't turn out both interesting and good. but yeah, i agree that the mythologizing of team silent is, at this point, kinda done at the expense of any other team having a go. the OG team was clearly influenced by works like jacob's ladder, and it's been literal decades so i'm very open to seeing what other influences these teams can bring - @C_U_SPACECOWBOY and i were just talking last night about playing observation and other works from these teams to kinda temper expectations & see what they're capable of
  6. holy hell, that was..i was expecting like, more skateobards and a gatcha game, and i only got the former Silent Hill 2 Remake - looks like UE5? james' face reminds me of a young david lynch (haha) but the CG stuff looked amazing. i'm gonna go play more bloober stuff soon to get a feel for their work SH F (V?) - the logo stilly posted, what we saw in the trailer looked cool and these details: "A completely new story set in 1960's Japan featuring a beautiful, yet horrifying world. Written by Ryūkishi07, famed for Japanese visual novels dealing with murder mysteries, psychological and supernatural horror." setting looks awesome, and apparently the writer is great on VN's (Higurashi and Umineko, i've not played either yet) Townfall was also a short trailer but what's there seemed...i mean, i played through all the endings of homecoming and like half of downfall, it clearly doesn't take much to get me on board so fuck it let's go (in all seriousness, quieter/anthology type stories would be really cool if done well) Ascension seems...ambitious? i know that horror streams are popular but i don't really think of it as a social genre as much, they gave really vague details on how this'd play but it sounds worth checking out the director of the first movie (still one of the better video game adaptations, i think) is coming back for a part 2, seems really excited for more pyramid head also a ton of merch, figures to statues - they look quality, i just...like, i adore SH2, i don't know that my game room needs frightening monuments to it but that might just be me overall, getting ito & composer yamaoko tells me they're taking this a lot more seriously than 10 years back when they kinda farmed out the franchise to whoever. granted, these are smaller european studios, but what we saw here made a lot of this look more good than bad as a former konami diehard, i will absolutely say they've fucked up & buried classic franchises far worse than atlus...MGS V alone was left unfinished, they locked out kojima & his studio effectively killing silent hills (and were even petty enough to make sure PT doesn't work on PS5's!) frankly i was surprised they announced sukoden 1 & 2 revival this summer, while somehow worried they'd even fuck that up
  7. i've seen numerous retrospectives on this, and factors why this was: art house stuff being done by smaller studios propped by larger ones to fund them, etc still, what a lineup...saw a handful of these in theaters at the time, but many of them on DVD/etc after. what about y'all? Fight Club The Matrix American Beauty Run Lola Run Go Boys Don't Cry The Sixth Sense Three Kings Election Being John Malkovich Magnolia The Blair Witch Project Office Space The Iron Giant Eyes Wide Shut South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut The Talented Mr. Ripley 1999: The Year That Changed Movies 1999: The Last Great Year in Movies
  8. t-minus 5 hours or so until pain
  9. damn. i do wish i'dve sen this in theaters, but it's a standout film - he's so good at both revisiting classic horror genres & subverting them, as well as writing character bits that draw you in & raise the stakes. i realize most works are gonna be in the shadow of Get Out, but this was excellent
  10. took 4+ hours, but finished the snyder cut this is undoubtedly both an entirely different and superior movie - way more kirby 4th world, way more character development without the time constraints. i get wanting to see more of this, even if the snyder self indulgent slow mo over some hallelujah song bits are grating cyborg had a story, steppenwolf clearly wasn't the big baddie you wanted to see, supes' resurrection was actually purposeful, i even got a bit about when lanterns were here - i know whedon was already buried after the ray fisher campaign, but man, seeing what was stripped down (albeit with extra filming time) really made for a superior experience, however i may feel about gal gadot, ethan klein etc i was a little salty that early on, snyder portrayed darkseid as a silent dumb brute, but dude's an ayn rand fan so i should've seen that coming. he got better as it went & left me wanting a fight i only got in superman TAS, so that's something

    Bayonetta 3

god. itchy tasty (book on capcom/RE history) really makes you feel for a young kamiya trying to lead develop RE2 without mikami, and works like okami and bayonetta rightfully garner tons of niche praise. seeing him plant his flag on this - because of how he usually deals with twitter fuckery - it's a mess. VA union all the way, fuck all these corporate workarounds (including hiring big name actors to do VA work)
  12. no i'm with you, i'm excited to see all the new x-men when the teaser drops in 2025
  13. atlus is absolutely wild these days. no physical, nice versions xbox only so far? just wild
  14. Sade Are Recording New Music The singer and her band got in the booth at France’s Miraval Studios, according to operators Brad Pitt and Damien Quintard pitchfork.com
  15. nothing announced about physical editions yet from what i've seen, but i'm hopeful too! also Atlus Dir./Prod. Kazuhisa Wada tells fans to look forward to future persona news. PCentral says Atlus 5 year plan from 2018 was disrupted by COVID
  16. deadpool is simultaneously the best and worst person to (briefly) explain how the x-men are to exist in the MCU, and i am here for his crayon-drawn explanation
