Iambaytor Posted November 26, 2012 Share Posted November 26, 2012 I still think people are hard on the guy, if he is a pedophile then obviously he deserves punishment but no actual good evidence has been pushed forth other than "he got mad", I've long suspected he suffers from more than a few mental issues (depressesion/anxiety are at the top of my list, and recent events with another web celebrity suffering those exact problems support my hypothesis) this is the first I heard on the tablet thing (forgive me if I don't find 4chan to be the most trustworthy source on the internet) and really those are the only two horrible things about the guy that hold water with me. Any of the complaints about his art have a real "people in glass houses" feel about them. He's actually a pretty decent artist and has stepped his game up a lot in the last 10 years (he's no Jeph Jacques, but cut the guy some slack) and he's acknowledged that he's become less and less happy with the comic as time has gone by citing that he was trying to do too many conflicting things at once and it got out of hand, even I won't deny it's gotten less and less funny over the past several years.. His two forays into "choose-your-own-adventure"-like fare were pretty good and I really enjoyed them. And I seem to remember there was some drama with Scott Kurtz a few years back, but to be fair, Scott Kurtz is a huge bag of dicks and nobody likes him, I'm surprised Jerry Holkins ever stopped hating him. The comic was never high art or very funny but if you think that Ctrl-alt-del was the worst comic on the internets then you very clearly haven't read very many webcomics on the internet. It think it was a mediocre, sometimes funny, gaming comic written by a reclusive guy who probably should see a psychiatrist and I think people are a bit too hard on him. And I really don't see the plagiarism, I never had, maybe he stole a joke or two but comedy writing is hard and what's even harder is not realizing when the joke you think up is something you saw ages ago on something you read or heard. Even the good ones do this without intending. There's no "all of a sudden" about his behavior, at one point he did have mega Rob Liefeld syndrome but he's cooled off with that in recent years and it's mostly just been getting angry because everyone's calling him a horrible person all the time. He's really not that bad to his fanbase, signing up for his forum does not make one a "fan", he's just snappy and standoffish like a lot of creators who get a break because their stuff has long been considered classic. And you should read the article on The Spoony One I linked to, there's a lot of parallels there that lead me to believe the guy has some emotional problems. And the reason there's not much hate against Scott Ransoomar is A) He's a really nice guy, and a good sport when people give him shit, B) He updates his comic every six and a half months on a good year. I do not recall where I came upon The Office Bitch, only that it is the biggest trainwreck ever. As a webcomic, as furry porn, as a BDSM thing, as a narrative, anything.
