I bought myself an encyclopedia of Mythology, got lots of European and Asian Mythology but sadly no South and Central American. Been learning lots of new shit but here's one that Legend of Zelda fans may like:
Epona, the Celtic horse goddess, won the favour of the Roman army and was depicted in monuments set up at its cavalry barracks as a woman riding a fast steed, her cloak billowing with air behind her. She was even given her own festival in Rome on December 18. Originally, Epona was almost certainly seen by the celts as a mare, possibly like the great white horse carved in the chalk downs near Wantage, in southern England. The fact that she is often depicted riding a horse with a foal suggests that she was also a goddess of fertility.
