Tyler is fucking with Lil B here, pretty hard. hahaha.

since this is a troll-ish post anyway, let's put up criminally unfunny Tosh-O, here with Eli Porter for his web redemption. featuring Skylar Grey to boot.

well, it happened. Snoop took over, bought in DJ Quik & the crew, and got me hyped for Dre's Detox, finally.

i really need some more g-funk these days, the new west coast is good but i'm missing this shit.

this album needs its own sonic cycle

quick, free indie track from Jonwayne:

also, here's a 50 cent b-side which isnt bad.

tonight i'm playing Freshmen Adjustment (1 & 2), some old Kanye mixtapes i never heard, followed by Phonte's Charity starts at home which finally dropped. good times!

big news for DoJ, myself & others. hype!

also, Jay Electronica + Just Blaze album is finally supposed to be done, cannot fucking wait, could be the best this year (and it's been a great year). oh yeah, more Alchemist + Curren$y for 4/20 next year, woo hoo!

don't think this year's amazing for hip-hop? new Blackstar (Mos + Talib) on the Colbert report! if that album drops this year, it's over. their last one was easily in my top 10 of the last decade.

speaking of - Common's album with No ID (again, Kanye's mentor) could be one of the best things to happen too. if the new single's any indicator: Common - Blue Sky

+1's if you reply @ Com or Blackstar! they're both so goodamn good.

That Audacious Spelling bubble did not have nearly enough lines coming out of it.

So, I'm not gonna look through 6 months of posts to see if anyone else has picked it up, but has anyone else listened to Lupe Fiasco's Lasers? It's pretty solid and has a few really standout tracks. Best new hip hop album I've picked up this year, considering the last new one I picked up was Wake Up! by John Legend and the Roots, and that was last year.

EDIT: I just realized I also got Hot Sauce Committee Part Two by the Beastie Boys and Turtleneck & Chain by the Lonely Island this year, so yes, Lasers is still the best new hip hop album I've picked up this year.

oh my god

i have to find you more hip-hop albums this year man, lasers was lupe's worst yet, please say you heard his first 2 superior albums

i guess im glad you liked it, different strokes etc etc still this is right up there for me with that post where iceman said nicki minaj's album was good, i mean i dont even think drake liked it

ps all black everything >> the rest of the entire album combined

Just to be clear, I've picked up other hip hop albums this year, just not other new releases.

Yeah, all black everything was a standout. I was looking at his first two albums and wasn't sure which one to pick up first. Looks like The Cool sold more, but that doesn't mean it was better.

Back to the Taxonomy, I can find King Ad-Rock, but I can't find MCA (should classified under both 'three letters' and 'MC's') or Mike D, or Chuck D for that matter.

yeah, didn't mean to be dickish, just - Lasers looked sloppy when it was coming together, and when it dropped, i thought it was one of the biggest disappointments this year. was one of those things where i was surprised to see most everyone else say the same.

i tell you what though, jax: listen to both The Cool and Food & Liqour. if you honestly like Lasers better than either of those, ill buy your Monsters Inc prequel ticket in '13.

if you're looking for recommendations, i have this native tongue mixtape a few pages back i can burn for you with some great De La, Tribe etc. if you're looking for some indie shit, i know you dig Sage Francis so i can definitely recommend a few things, logan's obligatory Saul Williams nod here will fit the bill quite well too. lemme know!

ps what else did you pick up? might help with finding what works for you.

In that case, mission not accomplished.

You: Come on guys, those of you not into hip hop should give hip hop a chance, and those of you not into socially conscious rappers should give them a chance.

Other: Well, I listened to this album recently...

You: You fucking backwater, no-tasting-having asshat! I pinch off turds that sounds better than that garbage! Get the hell out of my face and my thread with that fucking bullshit!

Getting them now. Will let you know after I've given both a few listens (I've listened to Lasers all the way through twice now).

ps what else did you pick up? might help with finding what works for you.

I'll accept your native tongues tape. Or CD (who makes tapes anymore?). So, this year, I also got Violent by Design by the Jedi Mind Tricks and Deltron 3030 by Deltron 3030 (also known as Del tha Funkee Homosapien), neither really grabbed me. I finally grabbed Fear of a Black Planet after 7 years of listening to and liking It Takes a Nation. I liked it as much as It Takes a Nation. I got Aquemini, and liked it , but not as much as Stankonia. And I've gotten a bunch of individual old school songs.

to be fair, you've come to understand this from us wu-fans. it's a sign of love. if you really wanna come correct next time someone mentions the clan, tell them U-god is the G.O.A.T. and fuck their feelings. oh, they'll throw rocks, but they'll know your name.

some tapes get made as promos, heh.

JMT & Deltron are both huge names in the indie circle that neither clicked for me - i was just trying 3030 again this summer, so i can relate. if you like the dude though, you might enjoy his bay area shit with Hieroglypics, some fun tracks there.

cant argue with PE, and people rate OutKast albums all day but there's really no losers there. do check out ATLiens if you havent, i spent a few nights arguing that one vs Aquemini with Whodey years back. if you can get into some southern shit, their debut SoutherPlaylisticCadillacMusik or however it was spelled is far less exprimental than say Aquemini but also a classic.

also! Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot last year had some great funk shit like Stankonia here & there, and it's all you're gonna get until 3k remembers where his studio keys are or whatever. if you want sample tracks, they're way far back in this thread so just lemme know & ill repost tonight.

Skipping back to nicks post at the bottom of the last page, the Blackstar thing won't work from me as I'm in ireland. Common's been in heavy rotation though on the iPod. Cheers nick.

Been mostly rocking Emancipator as regards other hip hop though. Not really gotten much to get my teeth around bar the common, lately.

I have both title tracks of ATLiens and Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, as well as Elevators off ATLiens on my Hip Hop playlist. I like those three, though still not as solid as the best of Stankonia, like Gasoline Dreams and BOB.

right, and you may still keep that conclusion (its funny because favorite Nas/Wu/etc album is always an argument, but Outkast, i never hear anyone bitch unless you say your favorite was the Idlewild OST or something), but don't just hear those ones - both albums have great songs that never made the radio. if you're an Outkast fan, you'll enjoy both. one of my favorites on Southern is Git up, git out which has your boy Cee-lo in his Goodie Mob days, for instance. here goes:

Bullshit, if I had said my favorite Outkast album was Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, your eyes woulda rolled so hard they'd a' fallen outta yo head.

i too dream of a world without region blocking of any kind; it's all shit.

nice one DoJ, grabbing it after that wiki-link, some great names in the mix. reminds me - if any of you wanna hear some great instrumentals, check out DJ Riz - Live from Brooklyn 1 & 2; it's a giant set of all the classic soul/R&B beats sampled in hip-hop. i learn something new everytime, lotta fun - and yeah, a ton of Puffy/etc shit on there, heh.
