Mr. Hakujin Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 So, Toy Fair 2011 was a few weeks ago and the big announcement for me was the WALKING DEAD line from McFarlane Toys. Old Toddy McFarlane's company kinda dipped out of geek culture relevance when the comic, movie and TV toylines dried up (as did a lot of his retailers like Virgin & Suncoast), but his sports line kept the company afloat and he's had great success w/ the HALO figure line. And now his fellow Image creator, Robert Kirkman swoops in w/ a toy line poised to bring McFarlane Toys back to the forefront. McFarlane Toys will have figures based on both the comic and AMC TV series! It looks like the 6" figures will hit stores in September and you can pre-order online for around $15. THE WALKING DEAD Series 1Officer Rick Grimes Michonne Zombie Lurker Zombie Roamer The second series of deluxe 6-inch figures is revealed in November 2011 and introduces four figures based on AMC's original drama including: THE WALKING DEAD Series 2 Deputy Rick Grimes Daryl Dixon Zombie Walker Zombie Biter I'll definitely pick up the first Rick figure and I'm looking forward to seeing what the final sculpt of Michonne will be. If you look at the video below they briefly show an initial sculpt, and it looks spot on as to her issue #19 cover appearance. It'd be so cool if they made a deluxe version of her where she has the two zombies on chains as well. . . <embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:622572" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars="configParams=id%3D1657849%26vid%3D622572%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A622572" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" base="." width="512" height="319">Movie Trailers - Movies Blog Quote
Iambaytor Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Just what I wanted is a Rick made of cheap oily rubber that smells horrible. Quote
APANCHALYPSE RETURNS Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hate-or strikes again. Yeah, one day I'll acquire a zombie statue army so big, you'll think the apocalypse is AT MY HOUSE! Fuck a Rick and all them. Just give me the zombiesssssssss! Quote
Iambaytor Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Oh don't get me wrong they're (with the exception of this particular line I'm looking at) very well sculpted and painted, I even own a few MacFarlane's brand figures myself. I just prefer my figures to be made of plastic that isn't some sort of slow moving liquid and to not smell like a can of turpintine had sex with a pile of afterbirth. Quote
APANCHALYPSE RETURNS Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 What are you snortin' lines of coke off your figures? After a few weeks the smell goes away. Unless you're sittin' Indian style in the middle of your Thomas the Train rug playing with them everyday then it shouldn't be a problem. Quote
Master Star Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 The cop one with all the guns is kinda funny... Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Yeah, Lindsay, that's the spirit! And I know you've mentioned the McFarlane's toys have had noticeable smells before Baytor, but like Panch wrote--it's never been an issue w/ me. I get the figs to look at--not to smell. I think the last McFarlane fig I bought though was an Angel-winged Spawn from a line 2 or 3 years back. But smell or not, you gotta say McFarlane is doing the WD line right by the sculpts. Quote
Reverend Jax Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Walking Dead characters don't get to bathe regularly. It's called authenticity and attention to detail. Quote
Iambaytor Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Well once the smell goes away the plastic starts to ooze this horrible clear fluid and it's very malleable to the point where it tends to droop. Quote
APANCHALYPSE RETURNS Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 You sure have a problem with figure juices. You should be quiet, though cause you're just sounding like a baby. And since we're on the subject, you don't see Amber complaining about YOUR juices. You know the ones festering in her belly right now morphing into your kid. Be a good sport, will ya Quote
Iambaytor Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 You shouldn't let Hakujin write comebacks for you. Quote
APANCHALYPSE RETURNS Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Wow, youre good. I was TOTALLY trying to channel Chris there. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 Nice touch w/ the deomn seed reference Panch, but I definitely would've worked in cancer and toy fumes in there as well somehow. But your McFarlane figs seriously ooze clear liquid, Baytors? Weird... Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 (edited) McFarlane just released news about these figs coming out in September. The Michonne sculpt is the only one we really haven't seen yet. I'm guessing they are still working on the sword b/c making a Michonne figure w/out a katana would be like making a Rick figure w/out his hat. Also, the paint jobs on these new pics don't looks as good to me as the ones on the previous figs. Rick's face looks better than the prototype, but something still isn't looking quite right about it... http://i.toynewsi.com/g/albums/McFarlane%20Toys/Walking_Dead/Comic_Series_01/thewalkingdeadcomic1_roamer_photo_01_dp.jpg http://i.toynewsi.com/g/albums/McFarlane%20Toys/Walking_Dead/Comic_Series_01/thewalkingdeadcomic1_lurker_photo_01_dp.jpg Edited June 8, 2011 by Mr. Hakujin Quote
The NZA Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 yeah, even Mcfarlane cant get faces right sometimes. that said, these look a lot better, even if Rick looks more like his old partner. your last two pics are though, hakus. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Yeah, the face is a bit too "meat-head-ish" for Rick. And I'm not sure why the pics did that. Anyway, I changed 'em to just links. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 Pics of the four TV series figures are here. Rick looks spot on, much better than his comic book counterpart's figure. Also, interesting choice w/ putting Daryl out in Wave I. I dig it. Here's some more detailed shots of one of the zombie figs. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 Put this on your desk and I 99.9% guarantee no co-worker ever fucks w/ you again. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 Final packaging shots are out and the figures should be hitting stores this week. Diamond exclusive b&w zombie two-pack: Toys-R-Us exclusive b&w Rick: Quote
Thelogan Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 I love that Michonne comes with a power...uh, tool? Drill thing. It's a drill, right? I almost called it a screwdriver. It's definitely NOT a table saw, I can tell you that for sure. I am not good at tools. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 Yeah, those are odd accessories; hammer, power drill, pliers, and what looks to be a spoon. SPOON! Quote
Jables Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Thanks for making me feel insanely masculine there Logans. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 Sadly dissapointed in the TV show figs. Rick and Daryl have terrible sculpts. The two zombies look ok, but the photos of the protoypes look way better thsn what actually hit shelves. Quote
The NZA Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 agreed, from what i saw at toys r us (i wanna say?) recently - dont recall if it was facial detail or what, but it wasn't what i thought it was gonna be. Quote
