Sure, its a wanky dumb question, but if there had to be one song you'd say was yours - be it for personal definition or simply just your favorite goddamn song of all time - what would it be?

 

There's quite a few that get me goin, from Classic Rock on up to contemporary shit, but if it had to be one, id go with

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird.

But as of now...my life feels more like this one song more than anything.  The Calling - "Wherever You Will Go"  Now only if it really made a difference...on a certain someone.   ???

I would have to say " Galapagos" from Smashing Pumpkins. (Atleast for right now). It reminds me of the past and how I need to move on with my life. Everytime I hear this song, I think of all the people I loved, the one's that back stabbed me, and the one's that have sticked with me through thick and thin. I guess it's always been an encouraging song!

Haven't had a chance to post on this one yet.  If I had to pick a song right now I'd say "Lateralus" by Tool, a band that never ceases to amaze me, though Galapagos was a damned fine pick if I say so myself.  Lateralus is basically about the connection between the body and the mind, which is what most of the album is about, and this particular song is more about not over analyzing and brooding over things... "going with the flow" so to speak.  In a sense it's also about listening to music like Tools, you don't have to interpret every word and put each note under a microscope to enjoy it, same goes for life and most art I'd say.  Of course, if I was really paying attention, I'd realize that it does me no good writing a goddamned big paragraph trying to interpret a song that begs not to be interpreted, so here are some lyrics....

Heh, don't get me started on how cool the Pumpkins were...  I can't really decide between Siamese dream and Mellon Collie, if I had to pick I'd say mellon collie because of sheer quanity of songs   ???   And as for D'arcy and arf de meur, I think arf de meur is a better bassist, but I think D'arcy just goes better with the pumpkins.

 

Hmm, breakup songs...  Stabbing westward's cd "darkest days" is basically one big breakup cd, so I'll pick some from there

damn i see some good choices and good taste in music here. Dream Theater's title track to their latest installment, 'Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulance', has still left me shaking from when i first heard it months ago . I'm a sucker for a really long song anyway, but 6DOIN really delivers. In my dictoinary, this will be an example under the listing of 'tour de force'. If anyone hasn't heard it and is interested in giving it a listen via download, make sure to get the full 42 minute version (you hear me, 42), because it is a suite and you might only get one of it's componant parts. Other defining songs include S&G's 'Sounds Of Silence', Queen's 'Somebody To Love', the Beatles' 'Across The Universe', Rush's 'Dreamline', Pearl Jam's 'Black', REM's 'Everybody Hurts' and all the songs off the Beach Boys' 'Pet Sounds'.
